@DrNasty1245 Because, they sample short segments, and, and least in Daft Punk's case, credit the person/people/organization that they sample from, Timbaland stole almost the entire song, and refused to give credit.
@DrNasty1245 What Timbaland took was more than a sample...it was 16 seconds pretty much unedited. Daft Punk's samples are at most usually 2 seconds long.
One way of looking at it is taking an entire picture by someone else, putting glitter around it and calling it your own.
Vs...
Cutting up said picture into lots of small pieces and creating something completely new and different with it that slightly resembles the original. That's what remixing is.
Before you insult someone, you fools should know a little something about music production. the melody used both by Timbaland and the totally unknown finnish guy is a demo melody from an old Casio keybord. If you purchase this instrument you can use and publish all the sounds and demo melodies it contains and it won't be no theft!
So dude from Finland, just happened to run across Timbaland's song and said, "Oh my fucking god, I have finally found a way to get rich.!" Look into anybody else who's famous music hard enough and there is bound to be at least one song to where someone else in the world could say the same fucking thing. Everybody samples. Being a musician, the melody could have very well been an eerie coincidence. I doubt he showed her the song and said, "Sing it EXACTLY" like this.
@LeonClayton23 There's a difference between sampling and stealing entire sections of a piece. There's also something you should be familiar with called 'fair use' to 'sample' something like this, that isn't public domain, and use it he'd have had to buy the rights to do so (which he didn't) or release the tune for free (which he didn't do either). Timbaland either knows nothing about copyright and artists rights or he's pretending to know very little to make it seem like less of a big deal.
Timbaland has always been a talentless hack, even before this, and he always will be. Sadly, most everybody involved in mainstream rap is, so I tend to avoid mainstream rap 'music' as much as possible.
It has the same "sound" as the Timbaland track, but I don't think its close enough to claim it was a direct copy. It would really stifle innovation if it was considered a serious copy. On the other hand I think Timbaland's reaction to this has not done him much good, he basically admitted there was a good chance he had heard the song and that it might have at least influenced it if he didn't sample directly and therefore to make such insulting comments about Janne etc.. is childish...
@mahoneko321 it absolutely is the same. even the blips from the c64 remake have been copied.
he just through a drumsample over it. i couold do that with a browser based drumkit.
sorry to say to all the timbaland fans, but for me hes just a big fat boy converting legendary pieces to low-ass shitty pop-black RnB music which all sounds the same. i mean, he's not aven changing his synthies from song to song. theres almost no difference in adjusting the sounds.
We need a series called Techno Man. All the levels would be creative and unique, one would be a level where you are small in comparison to everything and you are inside a courtroom fighting enemies. Another would be a cloud level where you are hopping from bird to bird. All the game's music would be like this. If you are asking if I am high, the answer is HAWODW.
@FrumBeermingum Let's say - the difference is that this is NOT so obvious. The chord progression is familiar, but you can find many examples for this. Or you expect a wheel discovery once again and again?
@slokaka If we as unknown internet people did that with a Timbaland track, he'd sue us both. You do not simply take some piece of music and silently make your own version out of it, you ask the composer for permission and eventually agree. If he actually makes money out of it the composer has a right to get a piece of the pie. And thats what Timbaland does apparently not acknowledge in this case as he seems to act like he totally has all the right to break copyrights. Thats the issue.
Before Timbaland "sampled" the melody it was Janne Suni's. And before Janne Suni "sampled" the melody it was definitely Grover Washington Jr. and Bill Withers on the song "Just the Two of Us". Look it up on youtube, almost exactly the same melody.
@colenbrak If you say so. But like I said let it go, not even you "Colenbrak" knows the truth behind all of this, and you know Timbaland blew the allegations off, so is this really about money.? Like you say.
@12markito why do you keep using quotes when they aren't neccesary/ supposed to be used? what do you mean, blew the allegations off? like gave them a blowjob? im kidding obviously but your choice of words is poor.
@pallenda , there is nothing to sample from Timb'o'jambo's music. There's nothing creative about it, no ideas, nothing in it. Music isn't what producer does. It is something creative instead.
Guys, Its not Nelly Furtado's fault.. She just took whatever Timberland gave to her she wasn't going to refuse it like c'mon would you when your career was rising faster than the speed of light? Give her a break and yell at Timberland he did all the wrongs in this situtation.

Yea when you sample something royalties are paid, and both parties have an understanding that the song is being used. Timbaland just sat around listening to a bunch of old indian pop music, and figured; "Hey!!! they'll never listen to me anyway, and most of them are probably dead!!! So what the hell!!!" As a result you see that timbaland rarely samples american music, he samples almost exclusively, obscure foreign artist..........thats stealing......
@joechill718 You're an idiot. Do you really think that everytime someone samples something, royalties are paid? Fuck no. What kinda fantasy world are you living in? That is why almost every sample based producer digs for that rare obscure shit that few have heard and no other producer has touched, be it foreign or not, doesn't fuckin' matter.. but you are right to an extent.. Timbo used this entire track from start to finish and threw drums over it.. a child could do that.
@keyseyr maybe royalties aren't always paid, but most sampling producers at least contact the artist or attempt to, to clue them in on the fact that they are being sampled. @KaioriBreathe if he had told sunni of his use of the sample it would not have been a violation.Sunni would have chosen either payment or not. This is how sampling has always been done.
@AcebeatGroup I'm not even going to bother man. You're wrong, but arguing with you will just further polarize you into the position you hold now, and ultimately what difference does it make? The world of music seemingly is always going to be filled with people actively defending those who plagiarize/infringe on intellectual property rights/artists rights/copyright. It's just sad really.
@KaioriBreath Calm down man. If timbaland had consulted Sunni and gotten permission it wouldn't have been a violation. I don't condone what he did at all, I'm playing devil's advocate here. this is unrelated, but Sampling can be done well and the same US copyright laws you hold so highly have recongized when a sample is chopped enough (and if it is small enough) it isn't liable for copyright under fair use laws. Most musicians sample or are influienced by other works. there are no new melodies.
@AcebeatGroup Being that "Do It" is more than just a sampling of the track, it's likelier that whatever laws apply to remixes of songs are what would be used.
@AcebeatGroup To further elaborate -- a remix of a song that reuses significant parts of the song it is remixing is considered a derivative work, and is subject to the copyright of the original creator. That's pretty much why there's such a big stink over this, I think -- Timbaland committed copyright infringement.
Everything that's mainstream is shit. Almost. It's like digging through a pile of shit for a diamond. Especially hip hop now a days. It's embarrassing.
haha. Yeah in retrospect that might have been a pretentious comment but i mean it's embarrassing to see the starlets of today. Like fucking Justin Bieber and all kinds of stuff.
@Milosmilk I hate most mainstream music but really like Nelly Furtado, most of her singles have been ok and she is bang tidy. Timberland on the other hand can eat shit.
eSTE TIOPO O TIUPA ESTA LOCA DICE QUE NELLY Y TIMBALAND COPIARON ESTA COSA LLAMADA MELODIA PARA LA CANCION DE DO IT , QUE MANERA MAS ASQUEROSA DE QUERER LLAMAR LA ATENCION ES LO MAS ABSURDO QUE HAY POBRE COMO NADIE LO CONOCE SE CUELGA DE GENTE COMO NELLY Y TIMBALAND MEJOR QUE SE PONGA A BARRER BANQUETAS ( SIN OFENDER A LOS QUE LO HACEN)
that sound is really similar!!! it is also my favourite sound in "do it"!! well, thanx janne!! anyway i still like nelly and her song :) but i like also this
everyone who says they cannot hear the similarity in the rythim and harmony to do it have no musical ear. It is clearly similar even though yes it is not the exact same but similar enough
Actually, to add to your point, Tempest put 11 random beeps in the song, and they can be heard even in "Do It." Those who say that it isn't stolen from Tempest are willfully ignorant.
OMG TIMBALAND EXPOSED GOOD LUCK SUNI BEHIND YOU ALL THE WAY.
Of course it does not sound the same, of course when playing electronic music, sounds are very personal and depends on the gear used.....but the notes are phrasing are there, Timbaland only kept the part he wanted. Just like when he Copied Push it from Salt n pepa for The Way I are. I dont mean Timbaland is not a good producer, hes got some serious skills, but he would need to come up with more original stuff.
Topics are the same as Death metal, but still alot worse lyrics and it just doesn't fit with rap music.
And many other UG RAP genres/bands are bad.
Usualy they are just angsty crap and there are few that are political etc. But if you want to hear political music and all that stuff, i wouldn't listen to them..
i can sorta hear it.....don't listen to the leading melody, listen to the stuff in between. i can probably hear it cuz i have a better ear, but it you listen a couple times, you should hear it....:)
so lame. is it possible, that with all the sounds in the world and the sounds you can produce, that some may sound the same. a very minor part of this can be compared to Do It. He's just looking for money. I don't blame him, I might be too...but it does not sound same enough at all to be legit.
I love this tune.

@KaioriBreathe wow good argument. try reading my post next time, dumb shit
AcebeatGroup 11 months ago
@AcebeatGroup Being that "Do It" is more than just a sampling of the track, it's likelier that whatever laws apply to remixes of songs are what would be used.
nothingxs 9 months ago
@nothingxs too true. I never thought it like that.
AcebeatGroup 9 months ago
@AcebeatGroup To further elaborate -- a remix of a song that reuses significant parts of the song it is remixing is considered a derivative work, and is subject to the copyright of the original creator. That's pretty much why there's such a big stink over this, I think -- Timbaland committed copyright infringement.

@keyseyr Shh! Justin Bieber might hear you!

This is not the original by Suni but a C64 remix made by someone else, can't remember his name.
majahemma 2 years ago
i luv this song but it does sound like something straight out of a super nes or gameboy game lol
nouchdaniro 2 years ago
Maybe because it was made on C64?

So this is the Song that Timbaland Stole to do for Nelly Furtado?!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. (Sounds diferent)

Then you haev no ear for music.
Izzegulle 2 years ago 4
The melody and the beats are the same, even tough the samples and synth is a different patch.
gombie 2 years ago
It's because Timbaland used GRG's SID conversion instead of the original song. Look it up. It'll sound more like the real thing.
noooodl 2 years ago 6
I know, it's still very cheap to take Indie/demo-scene musicians' music to do lowzy hip hop/RnB
gombie 2 years ago 6
Sigh when will the so called real music lovers stop shallowly disrespecting hip hop jus cuz the aminstrem sucks.
TCVB91 2 years ago
Compared to 90's or any older hip hop or rap, 2000's hip hop/rap is an abomination.
It's even worse stuff than Noise music.
gombie 2 years ago 4
But again thats the mainstream underground (MF Doom, Immortal technique, Malib, J Dilla, Danger Mouse, ets)
TCVB91 2 years ago
Everything that's mainstream is shit. Almost. It's like digging through a pile of shit for a diamond. Especially hip hop now a days. It's embarrassing.

@Milosmilk i'm so indie that i once went to a band's first garage concert and killed them so i'd be the only one who heard of them
stuntman021 2 years ago 2
haha. Yeah in retrospect that might have been a pretentious comment but i mean it's embarrassing to see the starlets of today. Like fucking Justin Bieber and all kinds of stuff.
Milosmilk 2 years ago
@Milosmilk Isn't it? But then again nothing good comes easy, so I guess you have to look real hard to real music.
TheGreenerItGets 1 year ago
@Milosmilk I hate most mainstream music but really like Nelly Furtado, most of her singles have been ok and she is bang tidy. Timberland on the other hand can eat shit.

everyone who says they cannot hear the similarity in the rythim and harmony to do it have no musical ear. It is clearly similar even though yes it is not the exact same but similar enough
spankychris99 2 years ago 5
ye rite
yull7771 2 years ago

Most of underground stuff is really simple or just stupid and yes, i've for some reason bumped in to them.
In my opinion, every single music genre has only gone worse and less original and creative, but rap and pop music.. They've never been this bad.
gombie 2 years ago
@gombie
Mind telling me rappers you find unorignal and shitty who arent mainstream?
TCVB91 2 years ago
first.. Horrorcore.. WTF is that shit?
Topics are the same as Death metal, but still alot worse lyrics and it just doesn't fit with rap music.
And many other UG RAP genres/bands are bad.
Usualy they are just angsty crap and there are few that are political etc. But if you want to hear political music and all that stuff, i wouldn't listen to them..
gombie 2 years ago
i can sorta hear it.....don't listen to the leading melody, listen to the stuff in between. i can probably hear it cuz i have a better ear, but it you listen a couple times, you should hear it....:)
ahudencial 2 years ago
so lame. is it possible, that with all the sounds in the world and the sounds you can produce, that some may sound the same. a very minor part of this can be compared to Do It. He's just looking for money. I don't blame him, I might be too...but it does not sound same enough at all to be legit.
thedrunkenskunk 2 years ago
you're deaf if you don't think they sound identical
