As I understand it, Alexander's decision to cross the Gedrosian desert was forced on him by logistical constraints, not a desire to punish his troops. The fleet which would normally have supplied his army, since horses and men would eat carried supplies in two weeks, was delayed at a critical moment by monsoon storms. Where he was, he couldn't have stayed because the entire army would have starved to death. His only choice was to press on west across the desert and preserve some of his army.

ya actually. it is well documented that he wasnt the harsh and cruel ruler that this makes him out to be. some of his acts were questionable by today's standards but the lived in different times and there were differences in what was accepted and what was not. this rating system, while interesting, is faulty.

@justaloe If they were having sex, that doesn't necessarily make them lovers, at least in the way we tend to think of lovers now. In this situation he could be a "friend with benefits." "Lover" implies being in love or in romantic relationship. Alex was not bound by sexual mores against recreational sex and homosexuality. He could be hanging out with the guys and, instead of watch football, get it on! With our notions of gay & straight, friends vs lovers, it's almost unimaginable.
