I remember when they were around back in the 70's. My friend and I would take their shells and stick them all over our shirts and face, and pretend we were being attacked by monster bugs! LOL!
These are stupid animals, i've caught like 100 in a container and i open the lid and they done even try 2 fly away. I think they stay underground too long.
They are all done mating and it's just time to die thats why they don't fly away dude! Their job is all done, sort of like Salmon swimming upsteam to spawn.
I live in Palos, and I absolutely love them. They are amazing to look at and the unique sounds they make are wonderful. I will miss them when they die off. I think it is amazing that these creatures live for 17 years underground, come out of there shells, and turn into these unique insects.
Actually Glenview is pratically the cutoff line for cicadas. There are tons of them in Northfield. It's rather annoying, they all fall off the trees and I literally have to look at the ground whenever I walk outside so that I don't step on em.
no really man, im in northfield as well and the dead ones litter the driveway and garage. does this happen anywhere else in the country or is it a chicago thing? I was in southern michigan yesterday and i didn't see one
I live in vernon hills and everyone is like theyre coming! but i havent seen one... if there is so many as they say there will be... talk about lots of money on gas cause im driving with my ac on and my windows up :-)
i live in NW suburb of chicago and im dreading them!!! i hate them, they soo nasty. already told my husband that im not walking the dogs.. that will be his job again!!
=P Im STILL waiting for any sign of them. I live in Chicago and cant find ANY. We have huge trees and grass and they arent here. I wanted to see them =(

omg dude they are ganna like fly into our ears, with them makin noise, did i mention they are big. man dude i cant park the car outside anymore cuz theres a light post outside, so like theres ganna be alot of them there, did i mention they are big?
Some suburbs, mainly west-northwest (oakbrook and elmhurst in particular), have started seeing them. The rest of the area should start seeing these *cough* lovely *cough* creatures within the next 3 days.
I know they don't hurt or bite or anything but bugs are bugs. I'm not rather fond of them either way.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKK! nah, jk :)
