I remember those. I used to have two 950's upgraded with PowerPC upgrade cards. They could blow the dust away from the floor with their fans. I think the case was bullet proof too.
Damn, I wish I could get my old Mac back. I had either a Quadra or Performa. I remember the drive was labeled Performa 6300, but the computer was bought back in 1994, before Performa was introduced in 1996. I gave it up in 2004 - so foolish of me!!!
The Performa line existed between 1992 and 1997. Performas were basically somewhat stripped down versions of computers such as the first generation Powermac, the Quadra, Centris and even the LC, which also had features that were intended for the home market.
The Performa line was a good idea, but somewhat botched in the end, hence the lack of success. I can only tell fond stories about the Performa 5300 though, our very first Apple. That was a truely great machine!
Hey, does your CD Caddy work? Mine doesn't. I put in the disk, and it does nothing and I end up fishing it out with a screwdriver. Any tips, if yours works?

Can you please do a video on your Quadra 840AV? I know it doesn't work but it would still be awesome for us to see!

P.S. I used Quadra Macs to do almost all my college work. I hated the Windows3 machines because it was non-user friendly.
Nowadays I use a program called "SoftMac:" to emulate the Quadra on my XP-PC.
The only 68040 hardware currently in my possession is the Commodore Amiga. I plan to upgrade it to a 68060.

Hey, not bad for 99 cents if that's how much you spent for a Quadra. Now try to emulate a Mac if you have a fast-paced Windows XP machine. =)

what are the specs of that machine/?
samssoftwareuser 3 years ago
68040 at 25 or 33 megahertz. Probably 4 meg of RAM.
It's approximately equivalent to the Pentium 1.

was it $20?

I just bought a Quadra 950 for $30 USD. The floppy drive does not work, however, and there is no CD-ROM drive!
I might post a video (I need a video camera or a webcam or something)
