The image that Dragon Force gave Herman Li is just terrible. People would have so much more respect for him if he belonged to another band. Jeff Loomis just left Nevermore because he is one of the best guitar players ever and that band was holding him back from the better opportunities in a guitar player's life.

He can play simple things well but anything complicated he fucks up by playing sloppy. He needs to practice a lot more, with a metronome. This guy wouldn't get into a music degree audition with this because it's too sloppy. I also don't know any proper musicians (schooled session guys) who think he is any good.
Not to put anyone down, but, before I had even heard of Trivium, I had gotten into Dragonforce and absolutely loved the music...but after I started listening to Trivium...well...the margin between the two band's playing is about a mile wide.

Eric Johnson is a solo guitarist who wrote the SONG Cliffs of Dover. Besides, Herman is nowhere even near Buckethead, Halen, Johnson, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani or Petrucci, all of whom are fantastic guitarists. Hendrix was good because he was very innovative and showed off a lot, not necessarily because he actually had good technique. His songs are great though.

I'm not dissing, I'm just stating a fact. They can play fast, they do it fairly well, but it still is sloppy and with sloppy I mean that they miss notes, it blurs together in a bad way and that they still need more practice. Playing fast is harder than people think, it took Petrucci 6 hours of practice a day for 15+ years to reach perfection and even he can mess up at times. People treat DF's guitarists like they were the best ever, they're not.
Why I brought a band like Trivium up is because like Dragonforce they are still young. Hell, one of Triviums guitarists even said in an interview that he still uses Petrucci's warm-up techniques from his Rock Discipline DVD. I never said Trivium is bad, because they aren't. Same goes for Dragonforce. They're pretty good guitarists, but not the best, and cannot be compared to the best.
Besides, Trivium made a name for themselves about 6 years ago, not 10.
BUT, you still called them sloppy. And so what if he uses Petrucci's warm-ups? There is atleast one thing every guitar player uses as a way to warm up, simple or easy as it is. I use alot of easy stuff as it is to warm up, then i get into the harder stuff.
actually herman li is one of the best guitarist in the world, not just opinion based, his speed and variance are pillars above idiots who can only do powerchords, that said they get old pretty fast in that his variance in its complexity is fairly limited to high sqweedle sounds and low weedle sounds
in reality Dragonforce isn't a bad band, while I'm not their biggest fan I do enjoy the speed and complexity of the composition or the solos occasionally

Also, no, you don't. Sure, you know about the good guitarists that everyone else know about, but don't try and add Sam or Herman to that list of great guitarists. Sam and Herman are in the line of Trivium's guitarists except they just play really fast and sloppy.

Its not a whole bunch of notes mixxed with each other. Thats not Sloppy. Sloppy is a good term if you use it in the right genera, like Grunge.

I'm not dissing, I'm just stating a fact. They can play fast, they do it fairly well, but it still is sloppy and with sloppy I mean that they miss notes, it blurs together in a bad way and that they still need more practice. Playing fast is harder than people think, it took Petrucci 6 hours of practice a day for 15+ years to reach perfection and even he can mess up at times. People treat DF's guitarists like they were the best ever, they're not.

Why I brought a band like Trivium up is because like Dragonforce they are still young. Hell, one of Triviums guitarists even said in an interview that he still uses Petrucci's warm-up techniques from his Rock Discipline DVD. I never said Trivium is bad, because they aren't. Same goes for Dragonforce. They're pretty good guitarists, but not the best, and cannot be compared to the best.
Besides, Trivium made a name for themselves about 6 years ago, not 10.

BUT, you still called them sloppy. And so what if he uses Petrucci's warm-ups? There is atleast one thing every guitar player uses as a way to warm up, simple or easy as it is. I use alot of easy stuff as it is to warm up, then i get into the harder stuff.

actually herman li is one of the best guitarist in the world, not just opinion based, his speed and variance are pillars above idiots who can only do powerchords, that said they get old pretty fast in that his variance in its complexity is fairly limited to high sqweedle sounds and low weedle sounds
in reality Dragonforce isn't a bad band, while I'm not their biggest fan I do enjoy the speed and complexity of the composition or the solos occasionally

First off, Herman wouldnt know a decent tone if it hit him in the face. Jimi Hendrix couldnt do a lydian sweep of ANY kind if his life depended on it. Herman knows little theory at all, and Hendrix never thought of tapping or anything like that.

In all honesty, I want Herman to break from Dragonforce, and begin to make his own instrumental rock, to prove himself once and for all to the true musicians. What bothers me is that he's not salvaging that out of DF minus the singer.
