  • I would bet nobody has the blueprints to the Aeroplane Coaster. Stuff like that gets lost and thrown away. Even if they had the blueprints, I doubt if they would rebuild such a brutal ride. Anybody notice how high the sides of the cars come to the shoulders of the riders? And how nicely padded the seat were?

  • @TheTrackwalker The fred church trains were famous for their deep padding that abosorbed most of the g-forces and kept the ride comfortable and smooth. Please note, the ride was not brutal at all. It was an intense ride, but it wasn't brutal and by no means dangerous. There was alot of 'percieved danger' on this ride, but it was completely safe and wasn't punishing at all to ride

  • @TheTrackwalker Oh you mean like the blueprints that are in the Harry Traver book from ACE that I have? lol. Not only does it have the top down view, it has the side cut view of how the structure was made to support multiple levels of track. :)

  • Thanks Swampfoxer! I had the thrill of riding this fantastic coaster at Rye Playland back in 1956. It is widely considered by coaster enthusiasts to have been the greatest wooden coaster ever built. It was built in 1927 and demolished in 1958. In answer to frecklecheeks101, it was demolished because many people found it to be too terrifying (it was a physically brutal ride) and the maintenance was very expensive. But I will never, ever forget it!

  • @fdmurphy thx i think they should rebulid it by the way have you been on this ride

  • @fdmurphy It was taken down because the new insurers said it needed $100,000 worth of work done on it to make it structurally sound. The park couldn't afford it and were therefore forced to demolish the ride. Are there any coasters around today which match it, in your view? :)

  • Nice video. Shows some of the severe banks that must have made it great fun.

    Rebuild!

  • WHY DID THEY TAKE IT DOWN??????

  • They should rebuild it.

  • Looks so fast & must of been amazing to ride, shame it got pulled down.

  • this looks like the dragon coaster or r u just lieing nd it is the dragon coaster but u just took out the part where u go in the dragons mouth??????

  • @americangirldoll4321 This looks nothing like the Dragon Coaster. The turns are different, it's moving faster and goes in an opposite direction.

  • @eurithmic6004

This was NOT the Dragon Coaster.

  • why did they have to take it down? It looked amazing!

  • That coaster looked whicked. I wish it was still around.

  • Man, these old coasters are pretty wild!

  • Are there any full POV's of this coaster?

  • @koasterkav YES!! negative g website has made a recreation of this for NO LIMITS just google it

  • beautiful footage. Beautiful coaster. I hope they bring it back. I'd fly across country just to ride it.

  • Rye should rebuild it. Blueprints still exist, and it would become an instant hit.

  • @AdrenalineAddict610 My sources say that either Viacom, CBS, or Cedar Fair (or even another company entirely!) posses the blueprints now. Paramount Parks owned the blueprints, and they were considering building it instead of Son of Beast.

  • I can't believe I am actually seeing footage of this legendary coaster!!

It got rough as it got old I am SURE, but I bet it was an amazing ride when the track was new! BEAUTIFUL!!

  • thats a fast rollercoaster

  • My grandma went on this coaster and she said it was fast. Its faster and better than the dragon coaster.

  • Rode the Airplane Coaster many times between 1954 and 1957. The first drop was a killer but it wasn't until about the third drop that one could compare stomach sensations to the Dragon Coaster's first. I can't remember if it was the second or third drop that was on a heavily banked steep spiral that came alongside the coaster loading station. Each time the train came by, waiting passengers would wonder, do I really want to this? Rye hasn't been the same attraction for me since.

  • wow!

  • You're so luck to have ridden this. Question, I've heard over and over that there was a tunnel at the bottom of the first drop, and have never seen any documentation of this, then I notice on this video that it appears there wasn't a tunnel at the bottom of the first drop. Can you confirm this please? Thanks!

  • There wasn't any tunnel that I can remember

  • whatever happened to it anyway and why did they take it down. Also, what did they build on top of it?those are the questions.

  • that thing looks like the dragon coaster but this one looks much funner

  • haha i love how everybody is dressed up

  • this coaster looks way better than the Dragon Coaster!

  • Yea your right. That dragon coaster is SHIT!

  • Wow this shit is intense. Take out the crappiest ride in Playland and rebuild this coaster

  • I know this ride looks awesome.I think the crappiest rides in PlayLand are in the KiddyLand section.

  • nah the crappiest ride is the haunted house next to the house of mirrors

  • are those haunted houses scary? i dont go in them because theyre probably just little things like sounds and flashing lights and skeletons. lol

  • no, they arent

  • the kids need a place to have fun too.

  • how it close?????????

  • thast the exact same version as the texas one :S:S:S:S:S:S:S:S so u guys that want it rebult it alredy has been

    o well

  • You people WANT THIS to be rebuilt?!!? Can't you see how painful it is?!!?

  • uuuhhhhhhh it looks great? (i guess)

  • a great historic video, wish they still had the aeroplane

  • its about the same as the Dragon Coaster, yet with crappier cars.

  • I wish the people behind Playland would emphasize its history more to get some people up there who appreciate its charms. Long live the Dragon! See you all soon!!

  • VERY cool. thanks for posting!

  • Tare down The Dragon Coaster and rebuild The Aeroplane.Love the old footage. I was born a few years after they tore down this ride. The county"s insurance made them tare down the coaster.

  • @derf62172 No ! I may be to young to have seen or ride the Aeroplane but The Dragon Coaster is part of my childhood. I say they should take down a crappy ride and built the Aeroplane.

  • I love how everything moves so fast in old films! Anyway, awsome footage.

  • Thank you a million times swampfoxer, never thought I would see footage of this legendary coaster. Can't belive they closed it becuase it was too dangerous of something like that. It looked amazing.

  • this one looks better than the dragon coaster, i love rye playland

  • jst think about how scared they would av been in 1928 cos tellies were only jst like invented then!!

  • Thanks so much for posting! I can't understand why they took it down, everyone I know in NRHS would love this ride.

  • I heard about it but never saw video - great post!

  • That is completely awesome...I am amazed. You are a saint!

  • um .. part two? whoo boy!
