Not bad at all. Porsche did their homework! However, I'd appreciate if edmunds would include a dynorun of all tested cars. I already know some mags which perform dynos and sometimes it's quite interesting to see, how much more (or less) hp some cars produce.. Furthermore, you'll find less factory "prepared" cars (not related to the 911 above, just in general).

Well my next car is the new GT3 RS, if this thing is putting down these numbers then I can't imagine what the other variants will do. But I've got to keep it naturally aspirated, and that's something that seems to be increasingly difficult to find now that everyone including BMW has gone to forced induction because of emission standards. At least Porsche is giving us a choice :)

As a GTR owner, I am also very happy that Porsche has upped the ante. I'm not a fanboy, but a car lover who knows that competition breeds innovation and improvement. The numbers by this Carrera S are crazy (Porsche Carrera's were 13 second 1/4 mile cars not too long ago and now 12 flat?). In the end, we the consumers win as this will cause Nissan to push even farther with the upcoming R36 GTR (as the Porsche TT and TT S will be crazy if this Carrera S is any indication).

Porsche is one of the best automobile manufacturers. But will they ever drift away from their current design structure? All of their cars are designed from one model and they kept it consisten every single year. If you look at a 1977 porsche and a 2012 porsche, their really isnt too much of a design update. Does anyone else understand what im trying to say?

1.03 g and 98 ft 60-0! holy hell.. One thing we can thank the GTR for is that it woke Porsche up BIG time and Porsche's coming back with a vengeance! Just for starters... This base Carrera S is as fast around the Nurburgring 7min40sec, 0-60mph, and quarter mile as last years 911 GT3 RS!!!!! Amazing. I can't wait to see what this car does in GT3 and Turbo S Form. Porsche is on a mission and I admire them for always pursuing excellence.

@qikqbn77 well said.. the 2010 911 turbo s did 0-60 in 2.6 secs and and nurburg lap of 7.41 .. i expect the same to 60 and maybe 7-10 secs quicker at the ring.. gonna be insane!

@qikqbn77 No, I don't think that this is a BIG improvement. It's certainly more refined, but what they've basically done is that by moving the center of gravity further in the middle, they just made it easier to drive for bad drivers which is not something a 911 enthusiast likes to hear. Oh, and they gave it these HUGE wheels => more rubber on pavement => more gripre. Not a big deal, though. The slalom speed is pathetic and prove that there are not any major improvements to chassis.

I'm an enthusiast.I drive my 997 C4S hard.The 997 may be the last true rear engined feeling 911.There is joy in learning to "tame" the 911.It takes skill,patience,&practice. BUT, when a great driver like Walter Rohl matches his 997 GT3 w/ sport cup tires Nurburgring lap times in the BASE 991 Carrera S w/o cup tires.Wow, I think thats a big deal. Even if it may feel/look less like a tradtional 911. jmho ;^)

Gtr has better numbers in certain areas, not all, but those say nothing about a cars personality, steering feel, passion, prestige, heritage and how it makes its owner feel. All of which the gtr can't really touch Porsche yet. Car&driver mag just compared the 991 vs Gtr. Gtr was a tic faster, but still lost and came in 2nd place after Porsche. according to them the 991 was more satisfying to drive.
