I used the Buck Rogers figures in conjunction with my Star Wars toys, mostly as members of the Rebellion. Kenner didn't make many of the Rebellion's secondary characters, especially early on. I also used figures from Battlestar Gallactica and the Black Hole for the same purpose.
I remember I could only find Buck Rogers stuff at K-Mart and Wal-Mart, but I could find Star Wars everywhere from drug stores to some hardware stores like Western Auto.
The ships look cool enough, but I suppose it just couldn't compete with Star Wars, just like the Black Hole and Battlestar Galactica toy lines. These toys are quite collectable just the same, due to their rarity and uniqueness.
It was the first time where the 3 3/4 action figures and vehicle format was being introduced. Mego only produced the characters form the pilot movie and nothing else. To make a long story short, the t.v. series did not provide enough characters for sale.
I still have "Twiki"

@lordlen8972 Why does the Star Wars snow speeder look like the Buck Rogers' starfighter? The starfighter came first.

"Oh, no! It's Tigerman! Let's get out of here!"
Most of the kids I knew would say, "Oh, no! It's Tigerman! Run him down, Twiki!" :-)

Where were action figures like that and Star Wars easy to find? Were they at a walmart or something?

"Oh no, it's Tiger Man. Let's get out of here." Well, why don't you just run over his butt, Twikki?

I had the EDD Starfighter and the Buck and Twiki figures and they all were pretty poor quality toys in comparison to the Star Wars toys.

I never had any of The Buck Rogers vehicles when I was
a little kid but I did have a Buck Rogers action figure and a Killer Kane action figure.

That's why you bought black hole figures to fly the Buck Roger's ships. :P
