  • i like the sentiment of the video, to keep wrexham welsh and sustain our heritage, but on the 'erddig' construction thing, in my opinion, that does not really effect erddig as it is on the other side of the train line. when i visit erddig i generally avoid the railway line. it feels very much like a boundary. i would hope that such development might be of benefit to the village of Rhostyllen.

  • We need more houses in Wrexham so as a local I want the houses built. The only way houses prices will cine down us when there are more houses that people who want to buy them.

  • Beautiful city!

I've been living there, I went to work there but after a little time with great sadness I had to go back to my country, Portugal ... Crisis broke out ... If I had the opportunity came back without looking back. Loved living in this beautiful city

  • the music give me goose bumps, love a good old welsh male voice choir.

  • @hanasaxhan wondering where you live and how it is better than Wrexham so please, do divulge

  • I am an Wrexhamian but now live in Southport> I would like to return and live in Wrexham but it has been spoiled beyond recognition! Many of my relatives and old school friends agree that it has been spoilt! It used to be a lovely town but no more! My first drink of beer was in the Horse & Jockey and I was only 17 years at the time!

  • da iawn! mae fideo un gret! dwi'n cytuno- Cymru am byth- Wales forever, England ........... NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • keep Wales Welsh!

    Cymru am byth!

  • @FreeloaderUK wales has never been welsh not for 800 years anyway property of HMQ and co LTD

  • Dont we want more people to join our community tho ? the more the better although most of the people who come to wrexham are not even from the country no matter wales :(

  • I am from Llay, now living in Channel isles, but it breaks my heart to see this..

  • @Hellsgrannie Dont worry its not like that Llay,s still there and one of those fishing pools even matt hayes could never catch anything, if youve been there you will know the one

  • I hope they don't build on Wrexham FC

maybe they should build in chester instead like on the deva stadium HA

  • I think that we all need each other to survive. It's a real shame about Wrexham. I'm English but I really think that Wales rules. I go to Wrexam to practise my Welsh- which isn't brilliant. I understand about the more jobs and it's tidier and whatever but I really do feel that it is a shame when councils destroy things only to build unnecessary buildings and properties that are only made for rich people that possibly don't live in Wrexham. Sad times, guys :(

  • and why wouldnt wales surive,is it not big english companys that has profited from wales resources, slate, coal, water just afew, so excuse me, Diolch yn fawr.

  • wrexham is mint! dont dis

  • @wrexhamafcfan ItIS A GREAT PLACE well said mate

  • stop Ffos-y fran open cast mine.

yet again the coal profits shall go back to england, what about the locals who are objecting to it, dont fuck england you only breed more parasities

  • excuse me? without england, wales wouldent survive under its own economy thank you very much

  • lemonlady1991- Where is your evidence to support your argument. Most people in the world have moved on from your colonial, post empire views of the world, that believed England was better than anywhere else. I thought people with your racist view died out with Queen victoria. The same argument was said about Ireland, India and all the ex-colonies. The English don't seem to learn from their own history. and maybe that is why they are dragging us into wars that get us nowhere.

  • i have no evidence, i didnt say i did, i am not racist,, completely the opposite, im a practilalist, maybe if wales was seperated from britain, it could survive on its own, like ireland, i live near wrexham, llandegla in fact, but i cant forget the fact that when i went to school and tried to make friends, i was physically and mentally bullied from year 1 to leaving high school for being english by the welsh forms and people who are welsh, and i never said any of my views so there

  • @lemonlady1991 sweetie, my fiance was born in Newport South Wales. He spent most of his growing up in Birmingham so obviously went to school there. And Guess what? The English bullied him for most of his school life. I say most because at 15 he knocked them all senseless and they never bullied him again. My point here is this... The English are just as capable of bullying someone based on their nationality as anyone else.

  • @lemonlady1991 The way I understand it, all us Celts would be better off without the English. Besides, we all managed perfectly well before you all came over here in the first place

  • HOW ITS ALL CHANGED HEY......

  • Wrexam is cool :D My bf lives ther actually. I was there 2 or 3 weeks ago.

  • Shame your Dad didn't teach you to spell, maybe he was too busy buying up flats!:)

  • hey, guys gotta make a living aint he? dont complain, these hapenings are the best thing thats happend to wrexham, the brewery, asda car park, thae place near liquid, they were all rusty eyesores that the wrexham people felt ashamed about. Tell me that you never shop in pc world, or go to pizza hut or any of those places, and when you never go to eagles meadow, let me know, then i might beleive that its bad for wrexham, and there moving odeon to it so thats less traffic near sainsburys so there!

  • I USED to go to wrexham, and think "what a decrepid old town...no atmosphere...all run down and sad" NOW I go and think "what a happening and cosmopolitan place, all tidied up and vibrant...nice atmosphere too"

Seriously, as an outsider, it WAS not a place to visit, but now it's WONDERFUL!

  • @lemonlady1991 knocking down the Wrexham Lager brewery pretty much killed the town. It was iconic to Wrexham and getting rid of it was devastating. I never shop in PC World and I never go to Pizza Hut and I go THROUGH Eagles Meadow if it's quicker. Eagles Meadow is one of the worst things to be built anywhere, let alone in Wrexham. horrible design

  • twat

  • hahaha my dad has a owns a load of flats in the wrexham area and he is local oh and wtf makeing way for new stuff is a good thing you can stay in a shit hole all you life and never leave the place thats up 2 you but there is a whole world out there so MAN THE FUCK UP AND DEAL WITH IT

oh and if you cant afford a new home for local pepole the dont fucking move

  • thanks to labour, and lib dem, this is what has happened

  • i go to morgan llwyd to,no one speaks welsh there so were wasting a language, and there are to many bullies and chavs wrex no wales doesent deserve that, CYMRU AM BYTH

  • queens park now hightown wxm till i die

  • i live in wrexham

  • I live in Brymbo but i go to Wrexham... but i never seen that!

  • me dad used to work in wrexham brewry

  • Until the English members of the locals councils, who bulldoze and ride roughshod over local people's feelings are replaced by local councillers, this will continue to happen.

Whoever allowed mid Wales to be described as Greater Shrewsbury for the phone book needs a kick us the arse too.

Thank god our Welsh language schools are full. Without a Welsh languge we just become a part of England that has a funny accent and thats not acceptable to me.

  • Pissed off at what they done to the old brewery it doesn't fit in with the retail park. They could have turned it into a pub and a bit of a park. They would knock it down if they had the chance.

    Wrexham F.C. is not dead!

    Wrexham Till I die

  • peoples feelings dont count, regards to stock transfer housing,i feel the every member of the wag in wrexham need a reminder who the voter is,and why the assembley are pushing for stock transfer of housing, did they not give clwyd alyn 4 million a month ago, why for social housing, why are the assembley gov not helping our councils in wales of the only option open, is get rid, yet WAG can fund military warfare at st athans and at parc aberporth, WALES WELCOMES THE WORLD BUT NOT ITS PEOPLE

  • OOPPS SORRY THE COMMENT BELOW WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SIGNED IN AS CAIAPARK neve rmind

  • well...no i think wrexhams gunna die if we dont do nothing about it

  • Don't worry... Wrexham is more than just buildings: It's pregnant teenagers, brainless football louts and puddles of vomit outside the taxi ranks.

No developer can ever take that away.

  • @kitmm you might have over looked the odd polish fella who come a cropper aswell very bad taste really

  • @kitmm as is every other town and city across the nation. Wrexham is also a town that can come together and celebrate. A town where some people do actually care about helping others. A town will be much better than it is, just as soon as us residents get off our arses and help this town become something. The sooner we stop complaining and taking action, the better

  • so what to developments of new homes who wants old things that bring the look of the town to a shambles knock the stadium down coz wrexham f.c is dead. i for one cant wait and im a wrexham supporter lol

  • The Kings Arms is a part of my heritage, I always thought it was a listed building and safe, wrong, it appears that nothing stands in the way of progress or profit.

  • they should neva have knocked down the kings arms its jst wasteland now and the brewery thats terrible the concil is killing our town for a load of houses that wrexham people cant afford

  • i think you are right on a few things but wrexham has been aiming for this for a wile and earthic is safe its national trust land and there are alot of good things from this new develepment and a hell of alot more newer clubs

  • things change,get over it

  • could of put some better music lol

  • well there r names there thinking of "Wrexham" thats the one now "City Of Wrexham" "Wrexham City" i kno they suck as names!!

  • NO good talking about it. The time has come for us 2 do something about it, once and for all.

    It`s time for Meibion Glyndŵr..

    Cymraeg Rhyddid

  • They better not knock down the racecourse!!

Plus City status wouldnt be too bad!

  • The council will only sell when there is Demand. I'm glad Wrexham is moving on, I'm from Wrexham and very proud of it, I was also a student in the late 80's, early 90's in Liverpool and used to be quite depressed coming home because there was bugger all to do! I'm back home now and I embrace change, the more there is to do in this town and the more options we have the better, I love this town and embrace change, otherwise we'll be left behind. Were not being sold out, we have to move on.

  • itll be the racecourse next, another 200 years of wrexham's sporting history lost when the owners get their way and WAFC goes down to the conference. its all a conspiracy to knock down the stadium

  • Sooo what stadium will Wrexham play in then?

  • u from wrexham my mam n dad were i live in rhos-on-sea god i wish i livbed in wrexham

  • i got anouther fink to say coedy is right by me i live in minera

wot sick bastards knock a chirsh and greaves down to bulid houses???

  • The only reason that they're doing it is MONEY, simple as that. Dodgy planning officers, powerful and wealthy development companies and greed equals hell for people who simply want to live in their own towns and villages. Add a government who wants us as expanded living space for england and you end up with what's happening now.

  • minera is goin to about 8 feilds are maby going to get terned t o houses y the fuck are they doin this it used to be a nice quiet little town now it is more like a city it is bul shit man i am so pissed off if u have aneythin so say e-mail me

    ta

  • this video is 100% fact. considering i lived in wrexham all my life so far, I dont care about City Status, all it means is house prices go up, more damn construction sites, therefore more traffic an what happens when Wrexham builds all this? there gonna wanna build more, improve buildings that we dont need. we need a ew Police Station an Better Hospital to be honest

  • I am a local boy who has been living away for 18 months and have just moved back here. I cant belive the change and how many people have moved here from England. something needs to be done

  • well mrblade were did you move to ,,england probably ,could b worse ,could be asians or east europeans living their ,stop whinging,no one complains when welsh people move to england,we have the same housing problems here to

  • As i said in my previous comment i've lived here ALL my life and now i think i'll sod off to the ISLE OF MANN to live. The drive to work these days is just gettig worse.I don't go into the town centre if i can avoid it.

  • It's profit, pure and simple, that motivates this- at the local communities expense. Greedy developers, council officials with questionable integrity and a process that doesn't represent the wishes of people who will be adversely affected by this combine to allow things which will ultimately destroy an area and turn it into another bland commuter dormitary with local people buried underneath it all. If they build on Erddig, I hope the whole new estate disappears in a giant bog!

  • Let's face it, 'improving' a town has absolutely no relation to the council's motives in allowing this sort of thing. It goes way beyond what would be needed to 're-generate' an area.Building luxury houses for people with no affinity to the place other than using it as a commuter base does zero for the local economy except force house prices even higher, clog the roads even more, dilute/suffocate communities and stretch services to breaking point.

  • With that sort of 'impartiality' it's not surprising that councils pass clearly harmful and unnecessary planning permission. I wonder how many other planning officers are planning a nice little earner once they 'retire' from council employ? No wonder you've got to fight like hell to try and stop this sort of destructive 'development'.

  • The cheeky sod from the Nat.trust said on T.V. tonight that 'the democratic process, will decide the fate of Erddig. If the council's anything like where I live democracy has a different meaning to what you'd expect. A chief planning officer's just retired here and guess who he's working for now... one of the most vociferous developers in the area! Wonder if that 'closeness' has just happened or did it exist when he was advising the council on accepting developments?

  • 100% with you! This is OUR town, we should do more and fight back against this!

  • i am with u!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry miss spelt THANK GOD in last posting.

  • Wrexham is NOT Chester TAHNK GOD and it should stay that way,I've lived here all my life I'm 41 and I don't like the way it's turning into a copy of Chester.

  • St Giles will never be knocked down or Erddig hall , as for Wrexham lager that was left empty for years before finaly falling into such a state it needed to be pulled down however the original building ( red brick on the right hand side ) has been restored. The demolition of the chapel in Coedpoeth is very sad but it only closed because no one helped keep it open , we had drama lessons there as a child but other than that it was only used on Sundays. which needed to be pulled down.

  • but i do agree with the homes4locals but the reason why not all of them are affordable housing is because there trying to make the town cosmipolitan so it has a better chance of city status. And why would they build new houses for people who already live in the area? this has happend 2 Llansantffraid, powys. When they started buildin the locals complained about affordable housing so they put 60% of them for locals 12 months later only 15% have been sold to locals and there letting them out.

  • This video is daft!

They cant knock down the cathedral or the optitions there both listed buildings and the certianly wont knocked down The Racecourse after spending millions on the new stand! its just ludacris

  • yeah city status may mean high wages

it will also mean higher tax, higher house prices, higher EVERYTHING!!!

I certainly dont want this town to be a city!

I like the changes i.e. the knocking down of old eyesores but I wish they wud fetch in some better shops, am sick of furniture shops

  • Please visit Rhostyllen[dot]com for the latest on the 'Not on Erddig' campaign. Remember to sign the petition!

  • the buildings that were knocked down were dumps anyway, i think wrexham is changing for the better.

  • You're missing the point Benjie- what I think the maker of this is saying is that the town of Wrexham is being massively changed both physically and demographically. Whilst a physical improvement may be justified , filling of a town by an authority with people who simply want to exploit it as a commuter base will destroy any vestage of community left. The jobs you refer to will hardly scratch what pay you'd need to afford one of those many new houses- or does selling pizzas really pay that well?

  • That is such a negative and backward video. The wrexham brewery was closed down and the building derelict and an eyesore, therefore sold for £1.00 and then a shopping precinct built, jobs created.- Pizza hut, PC World, Dunelm and other businesses have moved to the area. Eagles meadow will create 1000+ jobs. Wrexham will eventually have city status that means higher wages for Wrexhams residents, surely a good thing. Wake up, its 2007 not 1907!!

  • Great video but very disturbing and accurate, unfortunately. Went to Wrecsam recently and all I saw were new developments, there's no way that many new houses are for local people- you're communities will be drowned by God knows how many 'lifestyle changers' who'll bugger-up the local wage to house affordability even more than they have done already, after all, they'll be commuting to their jobs in cheshire, not working for a local wage.

  • The only reason why they've decided to build them now and not then was first because of the Squire, and then the National Trust. However, it's the National Trust themselves that are building the houses, which, I might add it against it's own policy. (Why be entrusted to protect land if they're only going to sell off a piece every 30 years?)

  • Well, they aren't building on Erddig per say... the land they are building on's fate was basically sealed in the 1800's when the railway cut it off from the main estate.

  • 'Erddig is a heritage site, they can't build on it'

Well, why are they then !? Thats the point, nothing is out of bounds.

  • And dont be foolish, their obviously not gunna knock down the optitions, football stsadium or the cathedral, their in constant use. and also erddig is a heritage site, they cant build on it

  • whats your problem, old brewery was useless, the new shops theres are good and the old asda carpark was a dump, the new shopping centres there will be amazing. and dont bitch about new jobs going to people from outside wrexham, if someone gets a job over you its because their better than you

  • i totaly agree this is not on something needs to be done and fast !!!!!

  • I'm 34 and have lived in Wrexham all my life. I agree that property prices are too high but it's the same over most of the UK. We should preserve our history such as St Giles parish church but we must also have 21st century facilities. I am looking forward to visiting the new shopping centre on Eagles Meadow; it wasn't a green meadow where eagles flew, it was just a grey flat car-park.

  • Progress was fine for a while, it just went on too long.

  • I have a practical suggestion. write to or see MP ask for scheme that tax payers based in wrexham for over 5 to 10 years and 1st time house buyers get subsidised when buying property by the govt. they can pay 10 to 15% of the price for thse who qualify as they do in portugal etc

  • I have lived in Edinburgh for 20 years,There is 5000 people on the concil waiting list, My wife my son and me are waiting, probably for ever. Same story up here.

  • while you're at it why don't we all live in slums and die of cholera? "Eagles meadow was our last piece of common ground"??? IT WAS A CAR PARK and a decrepit supermarket not an actual meadow off of the darling buds of may. And whats this about 'something like half of wrexham's population is from eastern europe'. Are you having a laugh? You can't possibly think anyone is going to believe that made up figure? No wonder this town is so backwards.

  • i agree that wrexham is being destroyed by all the so called 'development' taking place, but the strain in schools, the hospital, transport etc. isn't coming from the english, its from the poles, something like half of wrexham's population is from eastern europe. In some schools in wrexham, there are over 20 languages spoken, all needing to be taught english before they can attend classed

  • I would urge everyone to sign our Homes4locals petition(the link is in the video discription). Also please sign the Save the Turf petition, it will be a travesty if we lose this historic pub.

  • This poignant vid makes me so sad .The proud and unique Welsh town I love and hoped to return to has changed too much and is fast becoming unrecognisable.Border and Lager now gone .Football Club next? Watch out there are developers about.

  • what a silly suggestion!

there not going to build flats IN town, on erddig.

    development is good.

    keep building.

  • Wrexham is unique, keep it that way!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thsi brought a tear to my eye!, knowing most of the 'old town' which i miss, I onlt recently come back, and its disgracful what we have to pay !!!! bring back the locals

  • absolutely right

  • Wrexham is no longer a place where we can reminisce about the 'good old days' of the beast market, beer and mining. We have to move on and I believe that these developments are the best thing that has ever happened to Wrexham.

  • The beast market for example. Ok, the beast market is part of the towns' economic and social history but has very little importance in the 21st Century. Few people use it these days and adds very little to Wrexham's economy. The new Eagles Meadow however, is a £100 million investment that will bring jobs, prosperity and a better quality of life for the people of Wrexham and North Wales as a whole.

  • Wrexham is being redeveloped for the BETTER! Why live in the past, the poverty and degredation of the past. What is so wrong about Wrexham being a town on the up?

  • Excellent video.....send it to the Guildhall!!

  • My dad worked down the pit for 23 years before being made redundant. Now the only jobs in the area seem to be for Nail Technicians and Secretaries. His hands are too black and arthritic for either. Now he lives on tinned corned beef and bara brith.

  • What a great comment. You really put in perspective how things have changed.Pleas sign up to the Save the Turf petition if u have not already done so.hWYL dDA TO YOU AND YOUR dAD.tHE fOXES WAS MY LOCAL IN wREXHAM IN bILL sMALLWOOD'S TIME BUT i NEARLY DIED WHEN iN SAW IT LAST.hOPE THGE jOCKEY doesnt suffer the sanme fate.

  • Gwarthus, ag i bwy yn union mae'r tai yn mynd iddi? Nid y pobol lleol mwn!

Awful, and our money is being spent to house colonists.

  • Very good points made and well put together, pass it on!

  • sends a shiver down my spine.

  • Da iawn. Good to see Cymuned is active in the North East.

  • Tell it like it is! Da iawn Cymuned!

  • Very cleverly done - yet very very true - this is exactly what is going on, plain and simple!

    Gwaith da iawn iawn!

  • says it all really ymalen Cymuned!

  • SO TRUE - Brilliant film - pass it on!
