For a 14 year old eighth grader, I am on the right path with a 19:46? I havent started High School 5k training yet so Im still definitely looking to improve, but can someone give me some feedback please? Thanks.
@VRKjonny I'm a freshmen this year, running low-18:00's I'm top in my division for a 9th grader. But 19:46 is great for a 8th grader, much better than mine when I was in 8th. But just learn how to pace yourself, you'll get to the 16:00's by your senior year.
12rossja a 5K is NOT nothing. It's a great starting point for people who have led sedentary lives. It's great that you do not have to train for them anymore and that you can run half marathons, i do really mean that. But don't say that a 5K is nothing, for some it is a life changing goal and an event that can change a persons lifestyle for the rest of their life. I'm sure you didn't mean it's nothing significant, but rather it's a short distance. I wish you the best, and some better shoes
5k is middle distance, you cant compare it to a half marathon- it is a true test of speed, endurance and racing throughpout because you are racing the whole time, not pacing. You have to go out at your 800 pace (extrmemly fast) for the first 600 meters to get away from the pack and then race the whole way in, the middle mile though is where you cant fall back and then the last m,ile you have to push and accelerate the whole time, then you sprint the last 400- but it only takes a day to recover
yea i know 5k is still hard i geuss... i have done a 5k befor... it wasnt hard but it was decent... 13.1 k my ankles were bleeding from blisters i had to go to the doctors for a check up on my knees, (bad shoes) and couldnt move my legs for days........ you still cannot compare a 5k to a 26k though...
i wrote that wrong also... 13.1Miles was hard.... 5k (3.1Miles) is not very.... i can run an 17:28 on a good day... im grade 11... and come on? i dont train alot eaither... well i train a decent amount but not ALOT... and seeing something i said 5 months ago feels weird
im a senior in high school, i ran a total of 10 miles during the sumer before my junior cross country season and ran a 16:30, then thuis year (my senior year) i ran a total of 90 miles during the summer and ran a 16:58, not a good year but hey i gained 15 pounds due to hockey conditioining and eating programs. and in my junior year we went to states and this year i was our #3 and we were kinda bad. I think when im older ill run again and do 5k road races as i love the 5k
That's nice. I'm in the 10th grade in high school and I've done a lot of running beforfe. I've went to state twice but didn't do well, we did 5K my time was 16:35! I usually do under 16 minutes. Anyways, good luck in your future running!

First: 5K is not middle distance. 5K and 10K are long distances.
Second: Middle distance events are the 800m, 1500m and 3000m.
Third: I agree with those tips you gave that's pretty much what I do when I run my 5K. My 5K time is 15:45, I'm a quick runner!
Lastly: Good Luck with your future running!

5k is middle distance IMO when talking about running in general,. not the olympics or comepetitively

That is a HUGE group of people running! The 5k I just completed last Saturday had maybe 50 people...and a bunch of them were walkers.
