  • look at this photo graffffffffffffffffffffff

  • i love this song.....but he looked uncomfortable in this video...or was it just me....

  • I'm a metalhead but I can appreciate good music where credit is due. Good work Seth, fair play mate, I would happily pay money to see you perform.

  • @exeterfc Lol me too. Most be something about metal and Seth... :D

  • is this based on bowerman and the hare?

  • A great song from another brilliantly talented artist that many more people would be glad to discover given the chance.

  • First heard this guy at a levellers concert. thought he was brilliant. I was right this song confirms it.

  • Seth lakeman is hot and very talented.

  • Magical....Love u Seth....xxxxxx

  • seen him live twice, and seeing him again soon, i absolutely cannot wait :)

  • I love him :)

  • Hes just so talented. I loved this song from the very moment I heared it. Truly truly amazing.

  • saw him live with my dad...

    truley awsome

  • Seth Lakeman is too good to get really big, his music right now is perfect, if he went world wide, which he is capable of, I'd worry that it would commercialise him and he'd fade away. A bit like Christian Bale, he was incredible when he was lesser known and stuck to more culty films, now he's worldwide he's lost his edge. Lakeman is world class, but too good to be worldwide, his music would be lost in big arenas, he's incredible in small venues, I'd pay 150 quid easy to see him

  • prefer the original mix and the original video. He doesn't play this live any more

  • Seth Lakeman truly is amazing =D I've seen him live twice now, both times absolutely amazing =D

  • I love this song- heard it in skwl and loved it!! (:

  • Saw him last night at The Anvil :)

  • I'm so excited about seeing Seth play at Wycwhood Festival in the summer. It's going to be fab

  • I have seen Seth live 4 times! (Awesome every time) Love all his songs!

  • The lyrics are taken from a poem we studied in class =]

    Beautiful song!

  • what poem is it?

the song really is awesome right? :D

  • Its just called The White Hare, no idea of the author...

    Too right! =]

  • : D i love his music... songs..

    i'll look the poem up..

    have you seen him live?

  • Comment removed

  • Hey, don't do yourself down. And I love the way this song is based on a legend...

  • No-one is ugly, and you should have a little more self-esteem, because you'll have something about you that no-one else does!

You are who you are, so enjoy it and stop with the negativity. Being positive and loving yourself will instantly make you more attractive, because no-one likes a sad face

    :-)

  • Another excellent cover of "The White Hare" is by the band "just plain myrtle". It is lkisted on Youtube as "just plain myrtle on bodmin moor".

  • I saw him live, and oh my god, he's so good!

  • Thematically, the song reminds me of "All My Love's Laughter" from Art Garfunkel's "Watermark" album: a mystical love, attractive and powerful, yet lost to herself and a danger to others.

  • I am so encouraged to see a fellow tenor guitar player!!

  • What's the story with the white hare? Is it some sort of myth or legend like the banshee, or just something he (or whoever wrote this) made up for the song?

  • Based on an old legend:

It is whispered that the spirit of a broken-hearted maiden cannot rest; it appears as a white hare to haunt her deceiver and, invisible to others, follows him always until he meets his end. For the fisherfolk of the west this ghostly visitor plays a more kindly part. After sundown it will flit, eerie but harmless, among the up-drawn boats by the water's edge, a warning to all sea toilers of tempests that will surely follow, to the destruction of the heedless.

  • Thanks so much for that info! Very interesting, just what I was looking for!

  • I am SOOOOO looking forward to seeing Seth Lakeman at the Trowbridge Music Festival this summer.

  • its great! do you think there's a meaning?

  • I love this guy! Had the pleasure of seeing him play live 2 years ago at Hyde Park Calling! He was Brilliant!

  • just for the sake of becky , hes not bad i guess, jake

  • Extremely talented, can't wait to see him

  • he is good

  • this is the Relentless re-recorded version. Relentless obviously didn't like the banjo, but this more like he plays it live anyway

  • So, so talented.

  • Wow I love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ths guy is soooooooooo talented .. and he;s from Devon like me ..

reminds me a tad of Steve Forbert

  • I think i prefer the album version personally

  • Love love love him!

Any one who can bring this kind of music into the main stream... well.

    He is ridiculously talented...

And let's face it, he's not so hard on the eyes either!

    (:

  • @jeniDISASTER Yep.i secord that sister!

  • Great modern folk Bringing it to the masses.....maybe?

  • This guy is amazing.

If he ever gets big in USA it might be because I sent his details /songs to 100s of friends in America and they love him.

    Best of luck Seth!

  • Simple pure heartfelt lyrics. We need more of this. I agree with you ibanezguy2007, which is good coz I also play ibanez!

  • Wow Seth Lakeman deserves a lot more recognition in the music industry..

  • he wont get any cos people listen to indie schmindie bullshit all mainstream crap.

  • Such a self righteous Bandstand, love the nosser though :O)

  • I totally agree with Madiburt and SnapSnap1000 he is so talented and hot!!

He is so much better live!!

  • My fav Seth Lakeman song :)

  • I think this guy is awesome.

He has passion in his voice.

When he sings, he means every word he says.

I now live in Canada and first heard him on BBC Canada (Radio 2 ) - thanks - I'm a fan !!

  • No no, i think hes really hot to :)

  • Unfortunately the white har contracted myxomatosis and had to be shot

  • ha ha ha, love it!

  • i love him! his voice is amazing... and am i the only person who thinks he's really hot?

  • No. I can assure you, you're not. Whooaahhh!

  • love this song,,, carnt wait to watch u at green belt !!

  • i love this song, its bloody brilliant. u shud get his new album poor man's heaven.

  • Its a beautiful song and he has a beautiful voice. I listened to this while driving through mountains in the lake district and it suited the moment perfectly.

  • i just cant forgive him for rhyming kitty with 'such a pity' .. thats probably it!.. oh it's an ill wind i guess you're right.. i just dont want to bring the sound of 'the masses' to folk you know? its ruined everything else!

  • I thought folk music originated as msuic for the masses?! I don't think it started off as a some esoteric form of music... Having said that I think Seth Lakeman's records sound too clean and polished and he's a million times better live! And this video is pure cheese!

  • Anything that brings Folk to the masses, can't be all bad !!!

  • ooooh .. folk music selling out ....

  • I think you mean progressing. ;)

  • Would you all give over about the video!(comments near bottom of page) if you think its crap, good for you! but its a really nice song wether the video is 'rubbish' or not. Personally i like it and the video, but its only a video at the end of the day i dont see why you are argueing over it!

  • this isnt the original vid

  • looks like a young Kevin Bacon. Nice voice...love the folksy sound of this song.

  • great great great song - can't stop listening to it - crap video though. never heard seth lakeman before but he has a gorgeous voice and this song is so beautiful.

  • good comeback sean4d!

  • who cares about the video, the song is awesome!

  • the song is about a folk tale. get your facts right before posting comments, its tallented music not bling bling crap that your probably into

  • i am, in fact, aware that the subject of the song is a westcountry legend in which a witch takes the form of the eponymous 'white hare'. evidentally, from the music, one can discern that lakeman is not only referencing an actual witch, but also warns of a past love interest, or perhaps the embodiment of a 'siren'. it's a great song. the video is rubbish.

  • Hahaha, that has got to be the first time I've seen anyone use the word 'eponymous' on Youtube. Well done sean4d!

  • i saw him today at dartmouth music festival.

    he was amazing!!

    amazing live too.

    oooft crikey.

  • Heard this on BBC Gaelic the other day. Its a wee beauty

  • I love this guy he lives near me :D

  • omg ure so lucky im rather jealous... he is extremlly attractive.. hehe

  • Whereabouts in Devon do you live? I used to live in Chudleigh, before I moved. And my father is a musician, he claims he knows Seth's dad and played with Seth when he was just 12 or something.

  • Yes, go and see him live! He's brilliant!!

  • I have seen them live and it was amazing..!!!

  • shall i go see him at the resccu rooms nottingham

  • Hey westofsouth, did u go to the rescue rooms??? saw Seth on BBC1 last nite, had i known more about him in advance i would have been there myself. just booked tickets to buxton opera house in May.

  • Have also seen him live twice and have to agree he was excellent.Cant wait to see him again.

  • I've got the album version of this song, i want to get a copy of this version, is it on the White Hare single?

  • seen this fella live twice, he was excellent.

  • seth lakeman is amazing - he is like a folk - acoustic - soft rock superstar

  • looking forward to seeing this guy at the Feile Belfast on Feb 9th

  • Great song

  • I quite like both versions, I think they're two distinct songs. He's a very attractive man!

  • LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!

PLay this on guitar and banjo it is so fun to listen to and play. I agree album version is better

  • Sethy ROCKs he is the god of fiddle, and the singing voice... dont get me startet..

this version of the white hare is too popy for my taste i love the album version though...

  • Ive seen him

    YESTERDAY!!!

  • album version kicks ass!...and so does lady of the sea.

  • I love this song it's one of my favourite songs by Seth Lakeman :)

  • and wow he has an amazing voice, was a bit sceptical of this sort of music wen i read about him .. but I LOVE IT lol

i thort .. hey im 16, this is not my thing but now i cant think of a more untrue statment LOVE IT amazing voice .. amazing talent

  • i hav 2 disagree with a lot of you .. the drum beat adds to the song, it provides a sort of strength to the music .. lisen closely and now think, if u were 2 clap a beat to this song u would clap it to the drumbeat .. it just makes the song stronger it doesnt take away from the music quality

  • this gut is a legend i built his decking in his garden

  • I think its the best song ever its got loads of carictor and the dums r good I think

  • The album version is so much better. I think the drums spoil it - sounds cheesey. It annoys me when record companies make original songs "more pop" because they think it will appeal to a wider market. Same thing with Damien Rice and Cannonball.

  • I agree that the drums slightly spoil it, yet lots of folk stuff does use a real kit these days.

However in this, it does cheesify it.

  • Rap and RnB sucks I gotta admit. But it's good to see real music now.

  • Love it. Seth Lakeman deserves all he is getting for making REAL MUSIC popular. With all this r%b and rap rubbish in the world today, its great to see this. Saw him recently at Cropredy festival, amazing! And by the way, folk fans are not 70 year old men with beards.. look at this guy, and im only 17!

  • Interesting fact about this video: Its has been nominated for the BBC folk awards "Best TRADITIONAL Track" when its NOT a traditional track!

  • it's a traditional devonshire story though. I think that's what they meant when they nominated it. I didn't get it either at first...

  • I know he is English and from Cornwall, but there is something a little too 'american redneck' about this track for me... sorry!

  • Ok Devon if we split hairs... and at the risk of pissing the south west I know some of em don't identify themselves as English LOL

  • yea he lives in yelverton i no i did his garden

  • Nah, I don't agree. Especially if you listen to the lyrics. They're very classically the lyrics of old English Folklore and stuff like that. 'Tis very Ye Olde English

  • i agree; this song is beautiful, but it's nicer with the banjo! :)

  • i prefer it wit the banjo

  • my brothers are going to see him on the skye music festival i wish i cld go but i dnt have enough money

  • this song is class!!!!

  • this guys album is amazin!!!!

  • LOVE DIS GUY'S MUSIC

  • can you shut up man, why do ppl do this ? leave these weird comments

  • loving seth totally, this is my fave song!! :)

  • is there no where we can download this video?! :(

  • Give this guy a major recording contract!

  • This song is really growing on me but my favourite still has to be Kitty Jay - amazing talent.

  • I agree, but my favourite is 'the lady of the sea'; I think I just prefer it when he plays his fiddle! LOL!

  • im 10 im i to little to go to see him live??

  • He's your Dad, Henbo? That makes him the worlds most precocious 5 year old - he's 29 and you're 24!

  • he is so beautiful. totally mezmerising

  • totally agree! seen him twice and seeing him for the third time in february, when i saw him in wednesday we had a nice little caht and he is so so beautiful in person too!

  • Great single this, well done Seth, folk ?? rock ??? pop ??? dont care, love it, so there !!!

  • not much ov vidio but luv the sound n song

  • Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww, what an amazing voice he has, love this song, love the album !

  • I love the song but the video does nothing for me.

  • spose its the best they could do on a low budget ... its alright tho

  • this is one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard

  • have you heard of video editing and multimedia

  • first thing i noticed, the audio is a steel string acoustic guitar and hes playing a nylon ukalale with a capo

  • no. it's a tenor guitar.

  • really ?, your dad

  • yea

  • no he's not, you 23 and he's 29!!

  • He my Dad

  • It looks like the pop industry's trying to change him to a more commercial look, with his video looking very boyband like. Bet they trying to alter his music away from it's folk routes. If he wants, he potentially could be Britain's answer to Damien Rice or he could even break the US' lucrative Country scene.

  • wonderful, great, thrilling voice, mysterious pictures; i really love it!
