Love this system. Not faulting it at all. Just want to know what options for expansion there are. For example, if I'm looking to use it as the 'back end' of a hi gain/metal setup, can I bypass the compressor and drive sections and run a SignaComp and Triple Wreck at the beginning of the chain then into the Nova? Is there a built in gate? Also, there's no built in wah, so a wah/vol combo pedal should work pre-comp. But, you still need an expression pedal to control whammy effects, so EBJr pedal?
@thegovanment Yes, it's only push and turn off the comp and drive. Has built in gate and EQ. No wha wha here. TC electronic knows well that drives and wha-wha are things bad in digital, so they put the drives in Nova System analog. And the wha you have to use your own. The whammy you control with the expression pedal.
Major flaw with this product. Put in front of amp and get second rate quality effects that should go in the loop i.e. delay, put the board in the loop and loose that great drive they keep harping on about!
@olydj2000 Yes, but you have to know: The quality of effects in a loop depends on the AMP LOOP. If the effects sounds good in alone, they have to sound good in a loop. If don't sound, the loop is the problem...
It's suppoused to be able to do intelligent pitch shifting (harmonizing) but
I have not seen a demo making use of that, neither polyphonic Whammy (and clean whammy) or its pitch shifting capabilities to do 12 string guitar effect, it's a shame because few fx processors can do these things at this price point and no one shows it so we can't judge how good they are...
Hi to the people of Pro Guitar Shop.I'm just wondering is the delay on changing patches or effects normal? Or is there by any chance set the time/speed of changing patches...Its annoying me already...Any help is appreciated! Cheers!
Great demo. I have a question: the wham effect at 7:04 needs an expression pedal? I want to buy a Nova System and a expression pedal but i have a doubt behind Boss FV500H and FV500L. Witch is compatible? Thanks.
How come at 4:00 you're playing with "drive" but the "drive" button isn't even on? Then you turn the "boost" on and that one works fine... are you using a separate drive pedal?
i am about to buy a Marshall jcm 2000 dsl100, and i was wondering if this foot controller works with that amp. i have heard that this is a midi based pedal so thats why i am wondering. and that if i would be able to change between channels on the amp with this controller. Thanks a lot in advance for helping me out! :)
I'm playing the bass guitar, and i was searching for a good delay pedal. I found the Nova Delay a very good one, but this might be better! Is it a good pedal for bass as well, cause most pedals are played for guitar!
It bothers me that you can't choose the placement of effects on this unit. If you use your amps' drive and stick the NS in the FX Loop then you get the great reverbs and delays, as well as a Volume boost for solos. But the Pitch-Shift, Compressor, Flanger and Phasor all sound wierd in the FX loop and I think most guitarists would agree that these are effects that work better in front of the amp. Shame they couldn't do the 4-cable method like BOSS.
Hi... I have this system... running it with a Suhr Badger18 Combo Amp that has a serial loop. When I hook up Nova per instructions... I get no sound. The only way I can make this work is hooking the guitar into the Nova, and then Nova to amp input. While this is sort of ok, I know the serial loop will sound better. I am wondering if the serial loop is not working because of my cable choice. Do I need 1/4" TRS connector cable for ALL hookups in the serial loop method? Thanks.
Can you use a few other effects with this pedal? E.g. A Wah, possibly Volume Pedal and a Boss TU2? Can you just daisy chain link them like a pedalboard?
Hi, Perfect demonstration. I would like to ask you a question, the song from the minute you touch 2.17, first with the "Plate Reverd" and then with the delay, what is that song?
i have a marshall jvm 410 head and i looking for a multipedal but i have confusion in wich way is better to use in front or loop i love the dist of my marshall help me thanks.
I love this pedal! Especially the way you played "The Blue" by David Gilmour... first pedal I have ever seen that has a built in whammy pedal... only ever known the Digitech Whammy...
why is the drive light off when you are suppoused to be using the "Mid Boost Drive" effect, are you really using the overdrive effect of the unit, im asking because i have the unit and when i use the overdrive effect it tends to mix with the clean signal and its really annoying.
What was the song from 7:03 - 7:46? It sounded very Vai-ish with the whammy octave effect. Were you using an expression pedal or was the Nova just doing that automatically?
Im using a Jet City 20 watt head(which has no effects loop), and I want to know if you can bypass the Drive Section without running it thru the loop.Thanks.
@3120mesa yes you can just use the line input instead of the drive input and it disables the drive and just go straight int to the front end of your amp ,then you get to use your amps drive and all the other effects on top cool unit !
I HATE multieffects but this one may interest me?? analog overdrive! now thats what all units should have!! sounds nice! ive played with Zoom and Line-6 stuff and they sound like utter crap!!
I have a question, since I already have my own high gain overdrive and wah pedals, can I cascade those with this unit? If yes, do I need to do certain level adjustments?
@ynohpocac From my understanding, this would be an ideal set up. Run your OD into the front of the amp, run the Nova System into your effects loop. When you run the Nova System into your loop it will automatically bypass its drive, so you'll be in perfect shape with your pedal. :)
hello there! nice playing and nice unit. I'm buying this next week, I hope I like it!
I have a question: can you run the Nova System as stompbox and use a different midi controller to change presets? I'm thinking on getting a small midi controller or even make one to match the size of the Nova System and put it on a pedalboard just down the Nova. That way I can control the different presets with the custom midi controller and control de effects in the Nova System.

Heya, I always love your demos! Great sound and great playing once again! I have a question tho, you run all effects always in front of the amp right? I know you can run this unit in the fx loop of the amp, but is there any way to run the effects in the loop and the drive in the front end? Or is it just everything in the front end or everything in the loop (which would limit the analog drive use)? Thanks and keep up the great demos!
@voodoochild0403 - If you run the Nova System in the effects loop you'll need to use the line input, which bypasses the preamp section, which means you'll have to rely on your amp for drive. We did run everything in the front of the amp for the demo. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@ProGuitarShopDemos@ProGuitarShopDemos HI. I am not sure how to describe this technically but is it possible to layer multiple delays? Like one short and long? Thanks. Great sounding pedal.
@MrJackanthony I don't think so, althoug I think it has a double delay so you can set 2 independent tempos, check the manual on the TC web. I did time ago.
I have a Nova System - if you don't have a ton of cash the drive is useful, but I prefer to use the line level input into the loop which bypasses the drive. Not up to par with my Axe-Fx but it is good for delay, reverb and weirdness in the loop and it cost me $400 so I wouldn't cry if someone trashed it. My Axe-Fx ain't playing bars any time soon. I also like the solo boost in the loop - punches power tubes, hits where you want it.
Very good demo!! Some of the finest sounds available in this unit.
Also, fantastic playing as always: cool Zep stuff at the beginning, and I just love you version of Gilmour´s "The Blue" at the end!
It´s quite interesting how this unit can also emulate Univibe sounds. I´m using good stompboxes into a crunchy AC-30 right now, but I wonder if this would work, too. Probably it would require a pure clean amp instead of a crunchy sound...
This could be really nice for the practice room. I've grown wary of all-in-one units after I got slightly burned on a few in the 90's, but I realize things have come a long way. I just generally go for individual pedals and amps. But for practice or quick/small gigs this could work well.
I hope PGS posts the settings on their webpage! Please?
I tried the M13 and the Nova System extensively before buying the Nova System, and the Nova was out before, and they have built a system that uses their effects from the G-System and their ground pedals. The M13 emulates the sound of other historic pedals and throws in a few crazy Line6 sounds. The key difference is that the TC will not wipe out the tone of your amp. I you have a great sound you'll still hear it through the effects.
I was really hoping for a more in-depth review of individual effects. Usually your reviews are so incredibly detailed, but this one didn't introduce anything that's not already on YouTube...
Wow that really surprised me. It sounds so warm and natural likr analog, yet it's didgital. TC have obviously gone to some great lengths with their programming here.
For the nod to Gilmour at the ned, Andy is officially a legend|!
I think that PGS realy dos T.C. a lot of justes in there video's.
I'm prod to be living i a country (Denmark) that produces sutch fin products, and living less than 30 min by city buss to T.C. headquarter (Riskov, Århus)
Tried one of these a couple of times. The overdrives leave me a bit cold, not warm enough for my liking. However, the modulation, time-based effects are INCREDIBLE. Put this thing in stereo and mess with the delays and it's beautiful.
Andy DOES always find the best tones in each pedal review. This one has waaaay too many knobs for me! Would be a great for "The Edge/U2", could leave half his rig at home!hahahaa
Wow

Very, very impressive... I've always thought they were fully digital, but since they're not, it's extremely warm sounding & convenient.
(goes on the wish-list!)

@HectorArcadius Your comment is so funny and tragic at the same time.. xD "Oh, it isnt all digital? Well! now it sounds so much better!"
I hope i misunderstood your comment.

id much rather have the line 6 m9. it fits my style and needs much more. that doesnt mean this isnt a realllly nice pedal board.

I was really hoping for a more in-depth review of individual effects. Usually your reviews are so incredibly detailed, but this one didn't introduce anything that's not already on YouTube...
digitrixster 2 years ago
Wow that really surprised me. It sounds so warm and natural likr analog, yet it's didgital. TC have obviously gone to some great lengths with their programming here.
For the nod to Gilmour at the ned, Andy is officially a legend|!
DeadWhiteButterflies 2 years ago
it actually is analog overdrive, the digital parts are just controlling the analog od section
ToxicTiger 2 years ago
This is truly a brilliant bit of kit and deserves to be championed, nice review Andy.

Tried one of these a couple of times. The overdrives leave me a bit cold, not warm enough for my liking. However, the modulation, time-based effects are INCREDIBLE. Put this thing in stereo and mess with the delays and it's beautiful.

7:23 I love that harsh digital aliasing! I think I'm gonna buy the system just to get that sound! *biting sarcasm*

Hey man, that's Henry Kaiser's signature move!
ThePathofHavoc 2 years ago
Yes, instead get yourself a warm, organic sounding analog whammy pedal. Problem solved! *Right back 'atcha*

That drive section sounds awesome in that thing. Hey Andy, maybe do a demo of the Ibanez WH-10V2. You havent done a wah demo in years.

THE OCEAN!!! My favorite Led Zeppelin song!!
mmmmmmjjjooo10 2 years ago
sounds too digital/non-organic imo
theactor19 2 years ago
Yeah but for a multi-effect pedal it sounds loads better than most of the others on the market.
Wakisazhi 2 years ago 3
Andy DOES always find the best tones in each pedal review. This one has waaaay too many knobs for me! Would be a great for "The Edge/U2", could leave half his rig at home!hahahaa
barbwirebats 2 years ago
id rather have a bunch of separate pedals I like being able to see every setting
coreydm676 2 years ago 4
@coreydm676 Couldnt agree more!
barbwirebats 2 years ago
That's why I never really enjoyed multi-effects as much as buying the seperate. I feels more of like your own.

what is that song in the background when Andy is talking?? 1:11 - 2:11

I don't know if this is possible, but: Andy should upload his favourite presets to the website.

Is it just me or has youtube been loading videos really slowly lately?
ebeatworld 2 years ago 6
@ebeatworld I've noticed that as well. they get more vid errors too. They need to step it up before some other video site takes advantage of this
