I actually like making resolutions - I know you can start anything at anytime, and I do do that. But I dunno. It's neat to make goals and go back and see how well or how much they meant to you at the time.
Thank you for making this video. I've been thinking exactly these thoughts for the past two weeks as the whole new year's hubbub was going on. Why not start a the instant you think of it? It's just odd. People are odd.
wow all these books coming out and i still haven't read one. i'm a huge fan of your chanel so maybe I should do that. I am going shopping tomorrow and then doing an online book order after that, so fingers crossed i will get your book/s.
You are totally right Jackson nothing is magical about January 1st, there is no reason to make goals for yourself just becuase it is a new year, you can do it at anytime. =] you are always insightful. Also I wouldn't mind at all taking one of those Purity ARC's from you. I can even review it on my blog. =] BTW Congrats on all the books success. =]
I don't make resolutions, but every time a month ends, I try to think of something I would have liked to change about myself in that month, and then I try to fix it in the next month. It's like little baby step resolutions but much more often and much more fulfilling. And there is a lesser commitment, so if I fail, its not a huge deal :)
I'm always looking for new books to read, is there any chance that I could have one of those Purity ARC's? I could ask a little nicer if you like: May I please have one of the Purity ARc's to read? Pretty please with a cherry on top. Great video by the way, I didn't really make a new year's resolution this year, except finish my manuscript and start querying.
I'm fairly sure that's not how the view counter works. That's why it always freezes around 300, because YouTube wants to make certain the video isn't getting popular thanks to views that aren't actual views (this video is at 308 right now). :/
@steelvenom2003 Each time the video begins, it counts; at 300, it stalls in order to make sure views are "legit," but unless you're creating software that fakes thousands of views, your views are going to count just fine even if you're not watching the entire video.
Mine or more year goals then revolutions and I normally keep them, these past two years I have done this kind of revolutions. Like how many books I want to read this year, how many words to write in total, and whatever else.
Errrm . . . I do make New Years Resolutions. And I nearly always keep them. :) The key to making and keeping them is to keep the list short, specific, and realistic (Lose ten lbs--even though I need to lose more I know that ten is attainable; finish a 75,000 word manuscript, write five query letters, etc). While there's nothing particularly magical about January 1st, it is an official beginning, chronologically speaking and seems like as good a place as any to create a new set of goals.
I wish my resolutions actually came through :/ It seems whenever I make a resolution everything goes wrong and I wind up going in the opposite direction.
I agree that if there is something you need to change, don't wait for January 1st to get started! Having said that, I think it's a great idea to make goals for your life, and doing this on January 1st feels kind of symbolic to me. New Years is, like it or not, a logical time to reflect on your life. What did you accomplish in the past year? And I think people who set out to make things happen, set goals for themselves, something to strive for, will accomplish more than those who just tag along.
@EdelGarstad Say i.e you want to quit smoking, start exercising, start working out or something like that, start right now. Then in the New Year you reflect on how that went, and set a goal for where you want to see yourself with this by the end of next year. I think that is the best way to go about "resolutions". And please, give resolutions a chance. it's not the resolutions fault that the maker of them couldn't follow through.
Actually, my resolution for 2012 were those:
- I will graduate with good marks
- I will not kill anyone this year
So far, so good ;)

If you want to get rid of the ARCS you can always send them to me. I would even review them on my homepage and tell your German publisher about it ;)

I agree completely. I've stopped making New Year's resolutions because I never keep them. In fact, I usually don't even remember what they are.
