  • Ha, that was great. I'm pretty sure that was the most well done review I've ever come across on the YouTubes. And unfortunately I've come across quite a few of them...

  • @GREATBRITISHGAMER omg he sounds just like him! Lol

  • This is why I LOVE my Xperia Play...

Some people prefer Touch Screen controls, but really, do me they're just a bother. >.>

  • Are you the guy that did those LittleBigPlanet Documentaries? :D

  • I see a little bit of lag

  • nice vid, nice bit of kit, but also nice to hear from someone who played the originals and has respect for the cheapness of these imitations.

  • that is sweet but awsome

  • Do you find yourself using this much?

  • he should swap the controls with X-arcade parts for a real feel

  • @gadgetmanjay

Is this even doable? I've been trying to find more info on this.

  • can u play pacman on it?

  • If only every designed could jump on this..

  • kof didnt support?

  • super cool and worth it just for that reason alone

  • iSpy Masterpiece Optimus Prime

  • Blunty, you are a goddamn boss. I Googled "iCade review" went through 9 "reviews" before getting to yours. Yes, most of these guys looked too young to remember arcade gaming (several tested with Missile Command, apparently unaware that it was a trackball game), but that's no excuse for not once mentioning if it lags, seems sturdy, feels good to play, etc. -- the only things that matter. Thanks for getting to the meat of it and articulating it beautifully. I'd buy you a beer if I could.

  • how much cost?

  • Could the buttons and control stick be swapped out with real Happs components? If that could be done, I would have a instant mini Street Fighter II cabinet!

  • Blunty, I would love to see you deck this out. Change up the buttons and case!

I may purchase one of these for xmas though.

  • Would be great for tate mode shmups

  • Dude you didn't spend enough coins on SF2, Honda was totally raping you.

  • I dont know, I kinda like the design, everyone has their own opinion tho :D

  • If there is a version coming out for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, i will get one (I will not trade my Tab for an iPad if i traded my iPad for a Tab)

  • Lol, Edmond Honda whooped your ass!

  • Looks pretty neat...But for the price , I'd rather buy some wood to build a mame cab myself, or get a good joy stick.

  • Does DoDonPachi, ESPGaluda, and R-Type work?

  • Nice throwback Device.

    Good hook ups too.

  • thinkgeek FTW

  • Is this designed for ipad only? or will it work with other similarly sized tablets?

  • It's a bit on the pricy side... and it's really really narrow for my likings.

But I do like that it's a fun thing... bummer about being hurt by proprietary things for those who insist that Apple is right in curtailing user rights...

  • I would like to see in the future an add on to it with some speakers. Though I don't either cause it might either help make it sound more like an arcade game or terrible if they are shitty speakers.

  • it looks pretty cool but i don't think i will be buying it

  • Not bad, I wouldn't buy it but a very cool review!

  • thick german accent..

    Now I'm sad ;(

  • does it suck? lol

  • would love a video of the arcade machine you built

  • So like always the only way to get the most of the ipad is to jail break it...

Hmm, I just thought of something: Can you Buy Arcade sticks and Buttons for the PS3/360? I mean Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter are as fun as ever, but smashing a controller is pathetc next to the proper arcade controller...

  • @LuxVertas Yes there exist arcade sticks for PS3 but I don't know about 360 because I don't own one and I don't care but I guess there exist for that too. Just do a little "googling" and you'll find out what you need.

  • @PSspecialist ahh... interesting...

  • Seems like quite a bit of money for a novelty that will wear off once the next big video game comes out.

  • i think its a good game i like one so how much well it cost me

  • I want one now. But no money or Ipad T.T

  • Anyone know how this would go with an android tablet. I'm looking at buying a transformer prime (not that that's out yet)

  • only $69 right now, i thought it'd be a lot more for some reason. looks like a neat buy if you're into old style arcade games and own an ipad!

  • Does the arcade machine you built still exist?

  • that looks awesome

  • nostalgia.... galaga on family computer... ninja turtles , uncanny x-men....

  • This has made me miss my childhood streetfighter days.. *sighs wistfully* :P

  • Blunty, just when i thought you couldn't get any cooler, you drop that you built your own arcade machine, coolest dude EVER!

  • X-MUN!!

  • This looks like a good fun piece of hardware, it's looks good to have a much easier way of playing some of those iPad games. Personally i'm not too used to arcades so i'd probably want to hook a classic controller or something up XD

  • well its about £100 in the UK but im buyin an arcade table for £90 so this isnt gonna be for me

  • It looks fun, but seems like something you'd have fun with for a few weeks and then just get bored of and end up throwing away.

  • Clever concept. I like it.

Here's a crazy thought...I think it would be a fun idea if someone were to create some scaled down reproductions of side art and marquees from various arcade cabinets. You know, something for fun to get into the spirit of things.

Perhaps in the form of vinyl or sticker inlays, for easy application? I mean, how cool would it be to have one of these badboys decked out in Pac-man decos?

I know, I know...It's just wishful thinking, but man that would be great.

  • @pathosis Pac-man is a historic and classic game, but man... that cabinet art was hideously shitty.

  • @Blunty3000 Yeah, probably not the best example. Though I do like the garish yellow, for some reason.

  • @Blunty3000 I think I'd either have Street Fighter designs on this thing or Mortal Combat.

  • @Blunty3000 Shoot, I didn't notice you made mention of the side-labeling in the video. That's what I get for typing before the video is finished :(

  • @pathosis Pfft... Pac-man decos? Make that Killer Instinct decos!

  • Gahh i'm so nostalgic for.all these games. Think i'd better load up mame ;-)

  • From the sound at the end of the video it seem that the iCade is designed to amplify the iPad's onboard sound using a hollow space at the bottom? How was the overall sound when in the iCade itself?

It also occurs that if there is enough room to 'maybe' fit better controls - If of course they use standard arcade button lug-style connectors at the bottom! ;)

  • @RonByg No, it is not designed to amplify or redirect the sound.

  • I can't see the value of this if you have a pc made within the last decade or so (and probably some older ones would work to). anyone with a pc can just connect an arcade stick to a pc and play mame off it directly, not to mention many other pc games, if they use a program like xpadder to map the buttons to the arcade stick.

  • @Permafry42 HERP DERP I See no value in bicycles because clearly a car do the same thing betterz!!!

  • @Blunty3000 It's actually the other way around, with the pc being the bicycle since most $300 USD pcs (and even some $200 USD pcs) can run mame, where as ipads are currently between $400USD and $500USD. If you own an ipad odds are you own either a mac or pc, and you're more likely to own some kind of computer than an ipad so an arcade stick for pc is more appropriate for pretty much anyone interested in this device. Unless you're going to argue more people have an ipad than pc...

  • @Permafry42 Like the fart of the mighty giraffe, the point has sailed far over your head. Please go away now. My stupid-filter is getting clogged.

  • @Blunty3000 or you just don't understand my point =D

  • @Blunty3000 how much? (Australia)

  • @Fingernailfilms Prices change with time, vendor, currency and where the hell you are... it's why I rarely mention it in video reviews... I can't change the details when they change over time, and they WILL change. Google is always the best way to find the current, and best price.

  • hey blunty did you ever complete bubble bobble?

  • :(

  • 2:17 "sob"

  • Problem.. I dont iOwn anything problem here is its apple dependent and not standalone

  • @paindrain That's not a "problem" that's the fucking POINT of the device.

  • @Blunty3000 fair enough, but it is MY problem and negates possible consumers

  • @paindrain Dude, you DO know that's like complaining that an iPhone case doesn't fit your Nokia right? . ZOMG iPhone cases that don't fit other phones are "negating possible customerz!!!" idiotic.

  • @Blunty3000 Dude, I DO suspect you are fan boying and over reacting to a long term sub to your stuff, but fine, I've noticed quite a few of my original 5yrs + people getting edgy and progressive. I dont have an apple product, I like the concept but it ultimately falls short for me, wtf is wrong with that?

  • @paindrain He has a good point, but he was quite rude.

  • @paindrain Well, do you also complain that Playstation controllers don't work on Xbox and vice versa? This is designed fo the iPad, and other controller are designed for their respective devices, just the way it goes.

  • @paindrain It's a bluetooth device so I would think it works with anything that can use bluetooth gamepads.

  • @paindrain Lol so this thing is apple only? Fuck yeah, KARMA, BITCH! MAC FTW!

  • Oh it was a prank? I always thought it was real...and a super neat concept. It would be a pretty easy sale for me if I had a iPad.

  • @HarukoZ001 it is real now, not originally, i guess the video was too hard to watch...

  • Is there anything like this for Android tablets?

  • golden rule of street fighter : dont jump for no dam reason

  • GORO LIVES...

  • They have this on display at best buy and to me, though a cool idea, the stick is way off and also ot shouldnt constantly be making click noises.

  • @CONSOLETRUTH Well clearly you're one of those people who've never actually played a real arcade machine with leaf-switch Joysticks. They click.

  • @CONSOLETRUTH It wouldn't be right if it DIDN'T have clicky sounds to the stick.

  • I want to buy an iPad.. just for this.

  • Would it work with an iPod touch? Granted with some modding so that it fitted.

  • @MrLouisBrooks It would look quite ridiculous, but yes, it's just a standard Bluetooth interface so it would indeed connect to the iPod touch without issue.

  • @Blunty3000 So if it just a standard bluetooth interface can I use Android based pads on it? or do we need to "jailbreak" it too?

  • They don't even look the part-- the button molding and the reflectivity of the plastic suggests a 'lesser' plastic than used in our modding and custom cabinet days.

It seems more like a curiousity than a nostalgic throw back to our arcade wasted youths.

    Nice review, Blunty!

  • seems like a very promising idea! Hopefully the cheap feel will be eliminated with more rigid iCade models in the future.

  • this finally gave me a reason to get an i pad

  • ... Cave better make support for this in their Mushihimesama port!

  • 1:21, we call these people paid reviewers

  • Nice review for a nice product. :D

  • too bad they dont ship icade in my country. i'd love to play arcade games on my ipad

  • @ianmolt Try Amazon, they stock it too and they often ship where some other places don't... has come in handy for me a few times.

  • i guess it does ruin the concept of why the Arcade Machines was invented in the first place.. but it looks fun to have.. now i just wish i had an iPad :(

  • @Fryedbean Huh? Dude the "concept" of why "Arcade Machines was invented" was to play video games... and this "ruins" that how? O_0 are you stoned?

  • @Blunty3000 haha blunty meets fryed= baked. so mutual right here ^_^!

  • @Blunty3000 i guess the word "ruin" is the wrong word iam looking for, however i am from a younger generation that didnt live with thouse Machines as older generations do, i only see them at Arcades, in 80'ies movies, where it was more like a hangout place for people, where they met and played, in a diffrent social matter, then at home, i guess i could be wrong.

  • I wish this was compatible with my droid tab :(

even if it does feel cheap...

  • WHY DO YOU HAVE TO SHOW THIS SO SOON BEFORE CHRISTMAS BLUNTY!? I want it so bad now.

  • @radtex03 Wanna know what's worse... I noticed as I was preparing this video that ThinkGeek have it on SALE right now, 30% off!!!!

  • @Blunty3000 Quit tempting me man; I have enough to do next year. I don't need one of the greatest memories of my youth to come back and take up my time ;_;

  • This is pretty awesome. If it's not a big deal and you decide to modify the unit, could you please upload a series on YouTube? :D

  • I plan to build a big arcade machine off my old computer. wish me luck!

  • Looks sweet, but needs more games.
