  • Simpo, great playing! However your lick is not 100% correct, I slowed song down and some notes are not the same to my ear. I'll try to record it and post a reply as soon as I transribe it all. No offence - your video helped me a lot, it's all matter of us learning from each other, isn't it? And I use my pinky a bit:P

  • I am covering this song, and that lick is especially difficult to play because you play that alone.

  • Hi Simpo!

  • Really nice playing and exploration of that superb solo. Did you get the rest as well? I'd love to see all of it.

  • I have the same guitar!

  • nice! I was copping Metheny riffs when I was 16 (46 now!). I wore the grooves off of his first three albums learning that stuff.

    ;-)

  • Ey , nice job,man

  • i think that a semi-hollow guitar with humbuckers would of worked better 4 metheney's style but hey!

  • thats creepy, i think i have the EXACT same guitar

  • Is that a Re-issue '65 Lake Placid blue Strat? I noticed the vintage P/U covers.

    gorgeous guitar.

  • yeah its either that or the 57' reissue. i think its the 57.i cant remember lol. thanks for the comment!

  • great job - you phrased it well

  • thanks!

  • good

  • You never use your pinky at all. Try using it more.

  • I have to disagree. I would use my pinky if it was needed in this lick. Using it here would just be for the sake of it and would slow me down.

  • Metheny avoids the pinky a lot. I actually point that out to my students.

  • incorrect you have to learn to play in position more often. I just checked the lick out and just for the sake of being used to using my pinky more often (while in position) requires me to use my pinky a whole lot in this lick which will make the whole lot more smooth and easier to play

  • Metheny doesn't do the "position playing" thing. He learned from Mick Goodrick, who taught to play scales on one string and see the guitar vertically. Metheny rarely plays anything that stays in one position.

  • @simpo03 your up 12th fretish area so I agree no pinky needed here

  • @simpo03 I'm with you on this. If you watch clips of great jazz players, you don't see them using their pinky very often for single line playing. Most of them use their first three fingers and the pinky only when necessary. Then, of course, there's Django…

  • @simpo03 it looks useless anyway the way it hangs there not even ready . some dexterity exercises would only improve your playing... much respect...nice playing...

  • @moondog50002000 Thanks for the comment. check out my other vids to see the pinky in action.

  • Good video. Guitar sound good. Just a little to close. Try the ZOOM OUT mode view?

  • cool you play it but its kind of a faggy sounding lick...

  • rofl

  • What are those effects you're using? Octave Divider and a Chorus?

  • good!!! what kind of effect did you use to obtain that "fat" sound?

  • but not just anyone can spell.

  • the tone of the strat gives the lick a completely different character. Thanks alot for this video.

  • glad you enjoyed it. thanks for your comment!

  • Great song. Great playing.

  • hey will

  • yeah that's really useful. It really is a great album, the first I bought on the strength of having heard snippets of 'Follow Me' on Jazz FM in UK(as was); blown away by it all; like others I also found TTEOTW most interesting: I like to imagine it's a hot air balloon getting higher and higher then finally bursting, all the pieces fall to the sea and then it starts off again... How has anyone else 'visualised' that?

  • amazing job man!...my favorite one is "to the end of the world" too and my other favorite is "here to stay". I'll try to learn the lick myself...hehe...thanks a lot.

  • Thanks for fingering out this very nice lick...:) Nice job.

  • i had to stop and comment.. this song is one of my favorites from that amazing album... episode D'azur, red sky.. man i cant pick favorites from that album.. actually i listen to the whole thing on repeat then go to bed. it just keeps my head busy and lets me fall sleep (in a good way -you can count sheep.. i'll go thru chord changes into slumberland) thnx for posting this

  • glad you enjoyed it. thanks for the comment!!

  • awesome stuff, I love that album, my favouraite track is "to the end of the world"
