I just bought a book today called "Badger's Parting Gifts" about an old badger who dies, and his woodland friends have to learn to cope with the grief by remembering the good times.
Thing is, while I was reading it, the music from this scene began to play in my head, and it made it all the more emotional.
psychiatrists examined this show and they said it proved to be very damaging to the minds of children because they can relate to animals very well and i culdnt agree more its a horrible program i had nightmares about this show for years after i stopped watching it.
Owl is such a bitch. EVERY SINGLE TIME someone dies she goes off on some big rant about shit and needs to shut the fuck up. Why is she even out during the day??!
"mercilessly slaughtered many of its characters", though this may be true, I actually liked the killings. it brought a sense of realism to the series that no one lives forever, and no one is invincible. Compared to kids shows nowadays, Farthing Wood is a classic
I remember watching this cartoon on italian television,i remember a quite bloody scene of some mice getting impaled on some rose thorns or something and it really left a trauma on me when i was a kid,if you know that episode please gimme the link i need to see it again
I HAVE THAT MOVIE TOO! "Journey Home", right? I stumbled upon the episodes here on Youtube and shockingly, that "movie" was cut scenes from the first season! I never knew there was a whole series that had aired, though its a darn good series at that
Thid and the death of Bold is the saddest thing i had ever seen when i was a child. I was completely traumatised by this and wished there was something i could do to bring them back to life.
Its no suprise they took this off the air. Such a great show, but so traumatic. I cried for days.
hi well it was originally a series of books amied at adults then they made it in to a cartton which is why so scenes where traumatic for children. the show was aimed at adults and children but as children watch it - it should have been made more mild for children. Badger never died in the books
though it may have been "aimed" at adults, it was still dummied down enough for kids. there isn't any "adult" content in these old cartoons, and really, it shows more of what life is about then the dummied down-unrealistic and pro-education horrid quality of children's TV thats on air today...
The one thing I don't like about the show is that it deviated so from the books. Badger lives through the end of the series. Kind of sucks they kill him off in the show and replace him with Hercule.
@mynameisdumbnuts Ron Moody who did the voice of Badger wanted to quit Animals of Farthing Wood so they killed badger off. And replaced him with Hercule.
@amanogirl1 Really? No one's said anything to me about Ron wanting to quit. You do know do you that he did Bully as well, do you? It was his birthday recently, did you know that? He was 87 on the 8th of this month. Yep, I found this part sad too. I didn't cry at it, but this'll be 1 thing on the show that'll never be forgotten.
@BadgerWhisper I didn't know that he did the voice of Bully the rat. I don't now if he wanted toquit or not but I'm sure the ones who did Animals of Farthing Wood wanted him back to do Bully.
I was so disturbed by this scene when I was little - it was that point when I realized that this was what would eventually happen to every single person I loved. Very very sad scene.
Thank you ever so much for posting this, I watched this when i was a kid and i cried so much when badger died, it means a lot to me to see it. thank you
o my gosh this is HEART BREAKING!!! especially for a childrens show they drew this out to be the most tender emotionally touching and devestating death of badger possible, i wasn't cry but I...
I missed alot of series 2 when it first aired years ago, so I had no idea how badger died. I think this is the saddest death out of all the main characters that died.

@Imadjinn This was also during the golden age when the credits were actually shown at the end instead of being minimized and played during the end of the episode in order to make as little time as possible between shows.
@RetroToledo I know what just what you mean; the media has can have an influence upon the viewer. That's why I've made a vow to never watch any more of that new rubbish that they churn up on Disney, Cartoon Network, and Nick.
@ghfdfhfdndxhcg How I feel too. Cable TV isn't what it use to seem like when I was 4 years old (30 years ago). Back then it was something (an alternative to what could be seen on regular broadcast TV).
Reminded myself how bad they treated this show in the US however (one lousy VHS release compiling the first season into a movie with added songs [who asked for that?] and Ralph Macchio dubbing over Fox's voice).
@RetroToledo I never even knew there was a U.S. version. And the original Karate Kid voicing fox in it?! I have just one word for that: "Blah", just plain "Blah".
