  • @rocket1222 Thanks for the help. Helped a lot.

  • A couple questions. Is all the gold that comes out of the ground .9999? Also where do you sell your gold? Or do you sell your gold? Thanks. And great video.

  • @novalife818 - rarely do I find gold that is pure (meaning 24K). Not sure exactly what the average for me is, but I'm more near the 20K to 22K from what I find around the NC area. I've only sold a couple pieces of the larger stuff that I've found. I'm continuing to stock pile, but I really don't prospect for the money - more for the fun. :-)

  • When do you think you will post your next video? Do you ever get up to High Point?

    Thanks

  • home depot buckets are better that lowes and i thing your water is too fast

  • home depot buckets are better that lowes

  • when is the next video?

  • @The1122007 - The next video will be in the coming weeks. Been a hot summer and I'm waiting for cooler weather, plus less snakes. Watch for one by late September.

  • Great set up!!!

does your pump draw a ot of amp's

  • Very cool setup

  • I went to thermal city and they hate people from the north number one. I panned the river that runs trough the property. I found just two small flakes. You would have to dig about 4 to 12 feet to bedrock because the train that runs past all day long vibrates the gold down far. I also had dirt brought from their open mine pit. I found a little picker and some flakes. They are prospecting a new out to dig. Good because the one that's open now sucks.

  • @crackerB7 - Yea, Thermal City is getting to be a pretty hard place to work. Even the 'bought' dirt is real thin these days. For the last several months I've been hitting the open country. Hard to reach places have been proving well for me. I’ve been doing a lot of kayaking up creeks and rivers to find places.

  • jdtoy2001 - I'm not sure of the angle. I try to set 1 inch drop for every foot of sluice box. I actually played with this for a while until I had it exactly right. This sluice is 4 feet in length. I really don't use this design anymore. I made a custom design, check out my other video and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Let me know if you have any more questions. Glad to be of help.

  • This is a great design. I was wondering what percent angle do you have your sluice box sitting and what is the length of it? I am going to make me one of these.

  • now do you have to pay extra for those buckets of dirt from thermal city gold mine or do you just load up buckets from the material they bring you to highbank or what not?

I am thinking about heading down there this coming season and for a club outing there.. Is it worth it?

  • Top shelf video. Thanks for posting! I am planning to make a 2000-3000gph sluice pretty soon.

    Keep up the videos!

  • did you have to pay by the load or is it whatever you can shovel into a truck at thermal city?

  • Great video....Happy prospecting!!!!!Lots of buckets that how it's done... great looking dirt too

  • @rocket1222

Hi, my name is Jack Sears, I live in Michigan. I've been to Thermal City about four times. It is a fantastic place. I plan on going down there again this year. I hope I can make it OK after my knee surgery. I will be coming with a high banker. Good Luck! Thanks for the video!

  • that was a nice video

  • And what's your total amount of gold in grams??

  • Is that about a gram from 2 buckets??

  • I am going to Thermal city this weekend.Being from Ohio....land of the "specks"....your gold there is awesome!!I plan to run a yard scoop of their material....Think I will get as much as what you showed at the end of your video??That would be awesome!!I'm so excited at the thought...I guess I will see in a few days!!

  • @butcherbaker1 Have fun in Thermal City. I've been there about a dozen times and sometimes I get my dirt there to bring back home. Perfect time of the year to be there. Have a great time!

  • i have question im going up to nc and wondering how thermal city works do u dig ur own dirt..or do they do it for you basically im wondering how the place works and if its good or do you have other recomendations for gold paning...thank you

  • @PILSBRYDOUGHBOY - there are two ways to work the Thermal City area. One is to actually work the creek that runs through the property. I've worked the creek several times and have had OK luck. You need to go about 2 to 3 feet to the bedrock for the best luck. The second alternative is to have them get the dirt for you. You can have them dump a load at the creek and work it. I've had much better luck with this. They get that dirt from the actual mine I think. Good luck

  • Hey Rick nice vid man and nice gold!! I've been really wanting to build my own recirculating sluice box and was wondering if a 12v 500 gph bilge pump would work good with a 4' by 8" sluice box. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Im on a budget and found a pump at wal-mart for $20. Thanks man and keep the vids commin =P

  • @Akihito9988 Thanks for the comments. I'm pretty sure a 500 gph pump would just fine. You would probably have to classify your materials below a 1/4 inch so it would wash better through the sluice, but it would work. I bounght by 3,000 gph pump (it's actually a sump pump) off Ebay for about $40. I usually find myself controlling the water down a bit because the full 3,000 gph seems to be a bit much. Keep watching. I'm planning on putting another video up this weekend.

  • Does anybody know if it is feasible to operate an electric recirculating pump in the field?

I've purchased a 1700GPH, 1/5HP sump pump at $65. It's 115 Volt but it draws 15 Amps so needs a 2000 Watt power inverter which defeats the purpose of a less expensive pump. Suggestions for recirculating pumps anybody?

  • I ended up finishing the rest of the material I had pulled from Thermal City. I slowed the water flow down a bit in the sluice and it seemed to help a bit. Found some more good gold, plus a great little nugget. Thanks for all the positive comments.

  • How often do you clean out the tails?

  • @carver222 I clean everything out about every 10 gallons of material (2 bucket fulls)

  • Rocket1222,

Great video! Thanks for taking us along... Use a glug of JetDry in your sluice & panning water to break the surface tension w/o foaming up like dish soap does, and fine gold won't float away! Nice gold! How much did 500 lbs of material cost you? Is the 3,000 gph pump 110 volt or 12 volt? Can't wait for the crevicing video. Randy C-17A

  • @C0017A Randy - thanks for the comment. Yea, I use detergent in the sluice and will definitely take your suggestion for the JetDry when panning. I purchased 500 lbs from Thermal City for about $30 and the pump uses 110 volt. I don't have it setup to be used in the field. I just use the sluice alone when in the creeks.

  • what do you classify your material down before you run it through your sluice? How much water does your pump require to operate?

  • @PandoraLeigh I'm not sure what you are asking. But from a classification standpoint, I classify down to 1/4 inch before I run anything through the sluice. As for the water, I just fill the 15 gallon tub up and run in through. The pump can empty the tub in about 10 seconds if it wasn't recirculating. The sump pump is a 3,000/gph version. I hope that answered your question.

  • I heard you mention the 1/4 in after I posted this. I was looking at the 15 gallon figure. I'm looking at setting this up but not out in dry desert of AZ and wondered how much water to bring. Thanks for post!

  • Nice Job!!

  • @rikncrew21 Thanks, it's taken me some time to get to this point. Watch for more videos over the summer.
