  • nice playing and lovely roland piano.have you ever played a tune called Blue Air Colour Suite by Margaret Dring, ive been looking all over youtube to see if someone played it.love to get the sheet music of it.

  • what is that chord on the end?

  • No offense, and I mean this in all seriousness. I don't think Indians are capable of American Jazz. It's weird. They just don't have the feel. Again, no harm intended.

  • more slow with the accent but the rest is good

  • what does these grades mean in america??^^

  • Sorry, to slow for me.

  • This was on the grade 5 jazz abrsm syllabusm, but not quite as thick textured as this...

  • Dude! Listen to some jazz professionals playing this. I don't even mean famous ones. That walking bass is far too detatched. Also, in jazz and particularly swing, the accents fall on beats 2 and 4 and your bass line should reflect this. In addition, just because there is syncopation doesn't mean EVERYTHING should be accented. This is completely different from playing anything classical. I mean the notes were all correct but the interpretation was WAY off.

  • Where did get that piano from? and how much was it?

  • I'm takin my grade 2 in june! This is SO hard compared to grade 2!!!!!!!

    Bah-bah-doo-bah is REALLY HARD THOUGH!

BTW-I luv jazz music but isn't it meant to be MELLOW? nice job tho.

  • Take the A Train is by Duke Ellington not Billy Strayhorn, this particular versoin was arranged by Billy Strayhorn but not written, But Good Job!

  • no offense, but your sound is way, way, way too harsh.....

    sounds disgusting!

    Jazz is mellow man!

  • @MultiWham Jazz is all kinds of things than just mellow, but I do agree, it's a tad bit too harsh. Great job anyway, I wouldn't say it's disgusting.

  • no offense, but your sound is way, way, way too harsh.....

    sounds digusting

  • I've only started learning piano recently, and I'm studying for grade one, hopefully some day I'll be able to play to this standard :)

  • aha, i did this for my abrsm grade 5. great playing :D

  • Really hard one.

  • awesome, you got all the notes in :) now make it swing!

  • Yeah, when I learned this for grade 8, I got told to detach it by my piano teacher

  • hi... accompaniment is a bit too loud... maybe because of the keyboard... rhythmically accurate...

  • is the left hand supposed to be detached?

  • It's up to how you interrupt the bass line... But i was advised to make it detached and i preferred to sound as well. However the version i played didn't have any indications of detachment.

  • @SavanHaria i have the exact same piece. so i thank you for this, now i can play it because i actually know how it's meant to sound.... :P

  • i have to play that but a different version lol

  • this is realy level 8?

my teacher was serious about the levels being sorta weird good job on the piece

to play by ear listen to alot of music and have fun xD it helps if u learn alot of chord shapes and there sorta just imprinted in ur mind everything else is just getting what u want out

  • Great Playing I play this on Tenor Sax would like the Piano music too is this in this years 2009-2010 Trinity Grade 8 Book

  • its a hard piece

  • hey mate where did you get the sheet music?

  • Great performance!

How much did that keyboard cost?

  • This in on GTA IV! Just realised, very nice playing mate.

  • is there any difference in difficulty between trinity guildhall pieces and abrsm pieces for grade 8?

  • No there isn't, they both attract the same amount of UCAS points at pass/merit/distinction. And, they are both QCA approved at the same level.

  • wow! liked it......

I wish that i can play that good...

    great job

  • u should play legato with ur left hand(walking bass),but anyway it sounds pretty nice.

  • excellent :)

I'm playing this piece too, but haven't got part of it fast enough! The part with the triplet chords in the right hand! Its so hard! But you play it really well

  • wow i like it :)

  • Wicked, i really like them pieces :)

Mine are Praeambulum by Bach and Rondo no. 1 by Bartok and this :)

I'm going to upload my other two pieces in the next following weeks so keep an eye out for them if you want :)

GOOD LUCK with your exam :)

  • Hey I am playing this piece for my exam on the 28th... Thanks for the upload, u play well...

  • Good luck, mines on the 1st of Dec. What other pieces are you doing?

  • Well, my 1st piece is the Mozart sonata in D 1st mov,the second is the Schubert Adagio in C, and this is the third. What are ur other pieces?

  • I have been playing by ear since I was about 3 and I am now 26 years old.

I think your ear is pretty well developed in a good way and you would automatically fix any mistakes you make if you're playing from memory. That's a start to playing by ear. Also, with the extent of the theoretical knowledge you've gained from your grade 8, you know more than enough to play by ear. So, the BEST bit of advice I can give you without actually meeting you is "DIVE IN". Lose yourself in the music. Feel it.

  • this is actually the standard of grade 8 piano? Give me an hour and I could have this worked out by ear! ;) cool

  • It is indeed on the Trinity Guildhall Grade 8! Most of it is simple to be honest, but they are some tricky chord moments in the second half of the piece.

I'm going to be loading some other Grade 8 Piano pieces soon, so keep a look out (they are actually harder!)

  • looking forward to this! I remember back in the day my concert pianist of a teacher told me to stop with the grades etc and just continue playing by ear! lol! After a while i started a business in teaching Grade 8's and Diplomats (and also beginners) how to play by ear and from the heart :)

  • oops, that should say "diplomates" rather than "diplomats"! ;) I wasn't teaching foreign dignitaries lol!

  • I wish I could play be ear, but I just can't do it! Any tips? How old are you by the way?

  • sorry, the response i should have put here, it's above ;)

    t

  • i'm playing this piece for my grade 8 too, (check it out, but i took the video long ago so it may not be too good)

and about playing by ear....start listening to a very simple monophonics piece, and work it out on piano, then try adding some chords to go with it. As you get better you'll be able to play/learn harder piece without using any score!!

After years some people (not everyone) can hear a piece and play it straigh away on the piano...thats what i'm aiming for :)

  • what do you mean by playing by ear? do you mean improvisation or just being able to play any kind of music that you hear; classical blues pop jazz etc...?

  • sure but you do say you have been playing for 23 years.
