This wasn't recorded real well originally for one. But its great to see him and his band, no glam, just tshirts and jeans. Expect for the goober on bass.
@ecaravello Prefer Billy's LP tone. His Strat & Tele tone is WAY too Trebly & Tinny. Turn UP the Gain & Prescence Billy! Golub's Chunky tone always gave Squier's live sound backbone.
Billy Squier is like Toto and Rush. They don't need outlandish costumes and million dollar light shows. Just turn those guitars and amps up! That's all we want! lol
maybe, the now generation is focusing more on computers than musical instruments? i remember about 7yrs. ago, it was a friday night in LOs angeles and i'm standing out side with two friends, when suddenly i told them to stop talking, and listen.......... there was no sound. nobody outside. no parties. it was the strangest thing, but i realized it was because everyone was now inside, on their computers. and music, the world is not the same.
Loved this whole album!! My sister bought me the Don't Say No album right after it was released in 81 or 82, and I wore my turn table out with this album!! IMO, still Billy Squire's best album to date.
@urblut Very cool! I was at that show! Both shows at MSG as a matter of fact. I would have to say that was one of the best days of my life (now 46). Took the train from Jersey in to the city and met Queen at the Crazy Eddie on 57th where they were signing autographs...they signed my 'Queens Greatest Pics' book. Still have it. I think Queen opened with "Prime Jive" that night. Killer show! Truly the perfect day. Any memories you want to share about the show? Please do. Thanks!
I love the part from 1:41 to 1:48. When he says "The memories are all you feel", he changes the tune on it from how it was in the studio version. I like this way better. I think it would sound good if he changed the the ending on all the verses and do it this way! The guitar solo that stars at 2:49 is the best guitar solo ever created!
Great Song! Btw, the problem is the mix only. The band are on perfect. And wow would i love to see the entire concert. Especially wouldve been great to see it live back in '82! Mustve been an awesome show!
Wow what a time warp. Wild! Cool intro but yeah a lil flat for such a great song. But then again, pretty high level of difficulty, not too sure anyone could emulate the album version live to the same standards. Pretty impressive regardless. I love this guy's songs. Brings back great memories of those times! And heck, it's still really cool to see these songs live and overall they did a pretty darn good job in my opinion!
You're hearing it direct from the soundboard. It's not that they're plugged straight into the amps, it's just you're not hearing the mix that the audience heard. Has nothing to do with being talented or not.
Yup. In those days many compared his sound to Zepplin. His 1986 Enough Is Enough CD has a song called "Till It's Over". Reminds everyone of Stairway...
When I was about 13 years old my two favorite bands were Led Zeppelin and Billy Squier, I always thought that was so weird, but now I hear it, and I mean this as a compliment, I can hear Robert PLant style vocals and Zep style guitar riffs, but done so right, just using the influence
Billy is a BRILLIANT talent, consumatte front man & Don't say Know is Genius. Had the looks, lyrics, hooks & skills. However, I thought his live guitar sound was often a bit to tinny/trebley & the gain & prescence on that Marshall needed to be up on 11. :)
My husband had curly hair but he passed away in 1996 @ 32 years old and my daughter has curly hair and my son. I love curly hair. I wished Billy would let his curls grow out again. I seen him with Ringo Starr in 7/08 and first time seeing him in concert. He took my breath away.
The Great Mr. Squier will be kicking off his tour in late 6/2009. Also, he will be releasing a new album and has been writing new songs. Stay Tuned for this geninue Rocker!
No doubt! The real deal. Great video. Billy's one of those acts you think is a "has been", until you see him. Then you realize how great he was, and still is! Rock On!!!
memtown, you are SO RIGHT!! I heard Billy play with Ringo 7/29 at Pala Casino near San Diego. He has shorter hair now and he still can ROCK the damn place down! He was one of Ringo's two best "All-Starrs", along with Edgar Winter. Very underrated and still a ROCKING STAR!

Odd, in the video for this tune Squier plays a Les Paul and his second guitarist plays a Strat. Here they switched.
