  • Still one of the most moving and chilling openings to a documentary, along with that powerful piece of music. Oliviers narration just seals the deal on this.

  • @jadefalconmk1 I agree. This theme song still makes my blood run cold all these years later, and Olivier's narration is ominous.

  • Bart Simpson was forced to write on the chalkboard, "World War II could not beat up World War I." I think peace beats them both up.

  • This series is excellent. There are even a few episodes after the series finished that were assembled from the vast amount of footage collected. Hitler's Germany - 2 episodes and the two deaths of Hitler. There are many phrases related in these interviews which reinforce the idea that history repeats itself. School children, young teens everywhere should study these films in school.

  • you mean i could have watched this on the computer... INSTEAD OF SPENDING 60 BUCKS ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!?????????!!!!

  • @darthvader7661

Most libraries (and Netflix) have the DVD series too - but it's better to have it for your own.

Not all segments are left up by the copyright holders.

  • @darthvader7661 Tell me.. Really... Wasn't this worth 60 bucks? I paid about the same for it some 5 years ago.

You're talking about the whole series, right? 16 DVD's? 16 DVD's for 60 bucks.. That's about 4 bucks per DVD... Not that bad, is it?

And, it's a bloody fine documentary indeed! Don't take much of a side even though it was made about 40 years ago, when the Vietnam War raged on and the Cold War chilled the hearts of everyone!

Very good documentary. Well worth 60 bucks : )

  • The 'World at War' stands head and shoulders above any other TV documentary.

How TV in the UK went from this to Big Brother is saddening.....

  • @maninthestreet01 - Oh come on, that's a bit one sided. Sky and the possibility of losing the license fee are the problem. Regardless, we still have the best TV in the world. Need to with this weather!

  • This contains too much Propaganda. Much of this history will be re-written one day.

  • this series is fantastic i think the commentary by laurence olivier really adds character

  • When i first watched this series it was in the 80s. my grand father (RAF) was still alive and so were the survivors of operation market garden. Since then i have had the privilege to meet these people in person i also lived in Holland ( nijmegen south of Arnhem ) and the further away we get from this period in history the closer we get to repeating this catastrophe of WW2. it is important that younger people learn from the past and look to see the mistakes we as mankind are making today.!!

  • @beerpunk1972 you are so right

  • I was there weeks ago on my way back to Spain from the uk stood in this village for 2 hours im only 60 but it brought a tear to my eyes oradour did not deserve this!!!

  • Germans hated jews as much as whites hated the blacks in america. THEN when u have a man in power who belives and acts on those idea too. U can make anyone do anything.

  • I dont know how the world today would of been if Germany won the war, but i know one thing, i bet i would have heath care

  • I going to relearn the second world war, starting from episode one of WaW.

  • i remember watching these programmes in history @ high school...

  • For what?

  • This is what television should be for, a stunning series

  • @bhasinuscuscable Our World is already at war:Class War! (A)

  • Laurence Olivier does a spectacular job as narrator

  • @ deadmanssss

What is your problem with Jews (actual and imagined)?

  • Ta for putting this up here. I've not seen it since the original broadcast.

(but I do still have the accompanying book!)

  • World at War ranks as number one of ten major documentaries aired on televison. It will make one cheer, honor, occasionally laugh and, definately, become emotional.

  • The theme song to this has been stuck in my head for years!

  • Famous JEWISH commentator / actor , i naively beleived this as a child till i grew enlightened. No mention of the American Jewish Walburg Brothers empire who financed Germany leading upto the war , including the BANK of ENGLAND.

Never a mention of the German experiments that originated form 1920's usa science. No metion why England fought axis in dessert , 1st german dirty bomb testing , no metion of Hess's flight in a messerschmit 109 to bid for peice. The list goes on and on and on

  • @deadmanssss Eh? For one, Lawrence Olivier's father was a vicar, not exactly Jewish.

  • Indeed

  • Greatest documentary ever made.

  • I noticed you E-mailed. I deleted it without reading it. You are sick. Go away.

  • @MrCombat1965 I never emailed you. Thanks for playing.

  • The woman below has just given in to self-glorification. She is just as delusional as Hitler was.

  • @MrCombat1965 <-------Another ignorant roman thrall on googles conditioningtube.

PS- I'm a former US serviceman.

The intelligent reader will investigate the backgrounds of Trotsky, Lenin and Stalin, waving the old Red Flag of the Jesuits and FR Ledochowski SJ. Then note the dovetailing of the RC Austrian core of the Nazis with the same.

Both sides of a vice must be controlled in order to crush opponents and set up for the next phase.

  • My my my, the roman boiler room here on googles conditioning tube has been busy spacing beyond the valid.

Ouradour Sur Glane...a Jesuit calling card.

This series...a decent documentary, but not a complete and honest rendering.

First causes of almost all wars since the schism....Rome putting her enemies at each others throats. Where she cannot do so, she undertakes Praemunire.

  • If a solder was to retreat than orders were to shoot him on sight so that had no choice

  • The finest documentary series about World War II ever done. Impossible to recreate now. It is amazing to see interviews with people who were in power at the time and made history. Speer, Galland, Warlimont. All gone now. Laurence Olivier was the best as narrator. This series will never be equaled.

  • In the Soviet army it takes more courage to retreat than advance.

    -Joseph Stalin

  • @khanbaliq why are you so aggressive?

  • @khanbaliq

manners maketh man. you and I maybe read different history books, though i have the distinct impression that you are more comfortable with the spoken than with the written word. peace and love.

  • @khanbaliq

manners maketh man. you and I maybe read different history books, though i have the distinct impression that you are more comfortable with the spoken than with the written word. peace and love.

  • @khanbaliq Technically you are quite right. In practice of course they may as well have been allied. Stalin and Hitler were monstrous twins. They split Poland quite equably. Do you not think that the French and the British "bickered" or the Soviets and the Americans, once 'Uncle Joe' had been pushed into Allied arms by the stupidity of his twin?

  • @khanbaliq Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia were allied until Hitler decided to invade Russia.

  • And the RCC was not colluding...it directed.

  • All major wars since the schism...Rome putting her enemies at each others throats.

In those countries she cannot overthrow, she undertakes Praemunire (the insertion of govt within govt, to the benefit of papal process and at the expense of base liberty).

  • At Oradour-sur-Glanne, the SS leaves a calling card for its masters.

An unburnt confessional box, removed prior to the fire and then replace...with the letters IHS emblazoned upon it and two childrens bodies placed within it.

  • It should also be noted that Martin Luther was a Roman Catholic by indoctrination. His hatreds were those ever inculcated by Rome. He was not what would later be deemed a Protestant.

  • Sorry tollundwoman, but you are incorrect. Hitlers first target inside germany was the Protestant Church. He knew quite well that the protesters would not willingly go along with targetting the jew. He makes note of it in Mein Kampf. Thats why Goering and his goons targetted Prussian state representatives in the Riechstag and why Hitler set up a political lackey to control the churches in Germany. Said move was undertaken to protect the RCC and attack its enemies.

  • The World At War--1.Hollywood--0.

  • @anarksee No. As good as the series was, it never went to first causes...just like the nuremburg trials. All hat, no cattle.

  • The French army has been worthless since Waterloo. They lost the Franco-Prussian war in less than a month, they were mauled in less than 5 weeks in WWII, and they were a failure in WWI except for the flanking maneuver at the Marne. Sure, they beat the Austrians in the Franco-Austrian war, but that was in large part to the defective artillery the Krupps sold to the Austrians. They tended to blow up upon firing. I don't know how they could have been relied upon during the Phony War. Amazing.

  • don't ever think this can't happen again. history is full of repeats...

  • best war doc ever. period.

  • @khanbaliq They we're allied with Soviet for a period of time.

  • Does any1 know the names of the marches at 2:32 and 5:10? And gosh that intro is freakin' scary!

  • The theme music to this great series is so haunting.

  • Terrifying music and title, absolutely

  • anyone know the ntro song name i like that song

  • Anyone who likes to glorify the SS of WW2 only need to look at this massacre to realise that they were nothing but murdering scum. There was nothing glorious about them. Soldiers they were not. Murdering pigs they were. Slaughtering innocent people has no honour.

  • @TheShamalicious true they were murdering scum and mayu they rot ih hell ever more freezed in the deepst pits of hell

  • @TheShamalicious in every war there is a crime, war it self is a crime

  • @TheShamalicious By far the worst of the lot were the Special Action Groups, or the EINSATZGRUPPEN. They were hand-picked SS and SD men organized into four units, designated "A" through "D." When the Soviet Union was invaded, the Einsatzgruppen followed the armies in. Their mission was to exterminate Soviet Jews and as many Communists as they could catch, but they weren't fussy.

  • this should be part of the gcse curriculum.

  • can anyone reccomend a good history book about the second world war? or a well-reaserched biogrphy of Hitler? I'm looking to expand my knowledge

  • @KINGROOSTER45 the third reich a new history by michael burleigh is a good read, and for a guide to the worst excesses of this century, try eric hobspawm's age of extremes.

  • @KINGROOSTER45 Ian Kershaw's biography of Hitler is generally regarded as the definitive work.

  • "When the soldiers came"

    Absolutely chilling.

  • awesome documentary

  • Great series It airs on the Military Channel Friday at 10PM

  • @khanbaliq

Being allied with Russia would have gone against the Nazi 'weltanschauung'.

  • @khanbaliq no the nazis were definitely anti communist.. i learned that in 7th grade history lessons. try googling it.

  • @khanbaliq because nazis are anti-communist u plonker

  • huh?anti-russian prick?lmfao...

dude ima huge stalin fan,i'm just viewing things in both sides, you're prolly know little of your own history...

tsk, replying with "I don't need a reply from an anti-Russian prick who doesn't even know history"

i'm really lmfao on you man,tsk...

  • @khanbaliq dude ww 1 was entire difirent,in the russian case, the leader of russia on ww1 was the czar who was a west lover mobilized and would help the allies, while under the soviets, they want isolation and dont muchly care about other countries, except when those country threaten the security of the soviet union...

  • @teslagod2003 er, i don't think Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, etc etc threatened the security of the Soviet Union...

  • luckily its just around 1-5 mins scene each time, although i know its kinda huge loss, but theres nothing i can really do about it,but just to cherish what i got :D

  • so cool to have these vids here at youtube,i loved this movie.

when i watched it at history channel,i recored it at vhs tape,it took me 4 tapes that i have to put on EP,just to cover up all of this,lol...

it was an entirely 1 day show, that even if i fell asleep,i knew its recorded,i just watched it again after i recorded all.

sadly, some few scenes were not recorded, when i fell asleep and the tape got full,lol...

  • @khanbaliq urm,the nazis and the soviets dont really like each other, there's no pure reason to be allies at all.

the warsaw pact was nothing but just something to buy both sides their time.hitler and stalin both knew, war would be coming,1 way or another.

its just a psycholical treaty,a gate before a real war between the 2 powers come.

  • @khanbaliq they did that allied themselves with russia then turned onn the killing 10 million people they're dumb fucks and if there was another war (even though their with nato) russians would nuke them regardless

  • @TheSovietJew no,they deserve more than death, severe brutal torture, and keeping them alive and letting them realize their mistakes and still keep on brutally torturing them :D

  • Stunning television making.

  • I agree with the other posts calling this the greatest documentary ever. I saw it 25 yrs ago and it is as riveting today as it was then. It's showing now on the Military Channel. First time I've seen the full series broadcast since 1985.

  • wow hitler gave them bread. simple times for simple people

  • Most powerful documentary of my half a century....

  • i remember this show from when i was a kid. and it's still the most powerful opening to any documentary i have ever seen. so sad, so powerful and unforgettable.

  • our planet can't handle another world war. i think if we did have another war it would be nuclear war and just destroy the world all together. this whole time major powers on the planet put all their money and effort into building the most efficient killing weapon. and are dying to test it out. another war would be unleashing all this power at once annihilating most of the worlds population.

  • Still the most chilling opening title ever.

The nameless faces burning into obscurity.

    Especially the last one.

  • @drumdust This is easily the best documentary series ever made.

  • Not wrong there. I remember it as a child in the 70's and it still haunts me.

And Laurence Oliver narrating was perfect.

  • @Marspyramids i think that is questionable. Quite often footage is used that is not illustrative of the narrative. This is somewhat dishonest film-making. It is, however, unquestionably a good work.

  • abbesieyes, your comments infer that Hitler and his gang were some intricate Roman Catholic plot . . . Do you always pervert history to condone your prejudices? It was German that absorbed Austria, not the other way around.

  • The most outstanding example of documentary making in television history.

  • On the money.A series as perfect as is possible to be, topped by Olivier as the narrator.

  • As Lafayette quite rightly noted...all wars since the schism and the Council of Trent...wars of counter reformation.

Rome sets her enemies at each others throats.

  • Hitler and the core of his power structure...Roman Catholic Austrian...inserted into German politics to destroy nominally protestant germany from within.

His enablers included FR Ledochowski, SJ, Von Papen, the Krupp von Bohlne und Halbach and many others.

Oradour-sur-Glanne...a Jesuit calling card. The unburnt conffesional box in the church placed there after the fire by the purps...with the letters IHS emblazoned upon it.

  • @abbesieyes

The Catholic church's collaboration with the Nazis was disgraceful and inexcusable. but the Protestant churches including the Lutheran church were equally guilty. and Hitler was fond of quoting Luther's most vicious anti-semitic writings...

  • The German people I have known in my life (born 1957) have all been polite, civil and good people. It is almost impossible to believe that such civilized people could have carried out such uncivilized and barbarous behavior a mere 65 years ago... I'm glad that the USA and Germans are now friends. Remembering how much hatred still existed when I was a child I know that it took a LOT of forgiving for ALL the nations of the world to return to friendly relations.

  • The World continues to be at war;CLASS war!!!

  • Although all of the WWII documentaries are of course very sad and touching (especially WWII in HD) I still think that it would be cool to have a game based around WWII but ran like Tom Clancy's Endwar. So you could basically choose between tons of different sides to choose from:P

  • Yes but he encouraged Nazism and he took control as Supreme Commander of the armed Forces after he sacked his Generals and lead Germany to ruins as many said. So he was the dumb one.

  • @khanbaliq simple as this in WW2 most did die on the eastern front but not 93% thas an al out lie

  • Why is it that most people dont see the whole picture, only what they want to. Untill you understand the entire story of the world you have no right to even have an opinion on the matter. With all the information at our fingertips there is no excuse for ignorance. You all must read up on your history, go back to the beginning and start from there. There are no accidents in history when the cold hard facts are read, it is so absurdly predictable.

  • @nazirizitz what do you mean the Nazi killed millions in those camps.Germany lost both of the wars.German people did not even know about the holocaust untill Himmler announced it in 1944

  • The nazis lost everything, and yes killed millions, not the best regime idea , Hitler was an egotistical meth head..

  • @reldditmot Ok thats a lie.Nazis may still live today ,and yes like i said they killed millions. Also Hitler was the only man that made Socialism work.(note the only real reason was probly because he was in power for just 12 years.)

  • There are plenty of accidents in history though. Many needless events occurred completely by accident.

Not that what I'm saying has too much to do with this program.

  • @khanbaliq thas a lie most died on the western front if you mean WW1.now if you mean WW2 that is still a lie.plus most of the world did fight Germany and it weak allies.simple Germany and Japan only superpowers on the axis.and the allies had USA,USSR,UK,France,Canada,China and i am blocking i am sick of your lies

  • @khanbaliq no Lenin didnt want war with Germany and i know Germany did lose because almost the whole world was against the Central Powers what were only aroung 5 nations but not like i wanted Germany to win mainly in WW2

  • @khanbaliq You are so stupid in World War One Vladimir Lenin, the new leader of the Russian government, announced an armistice with the Central Powers on October 26, 1917.Ok i dont hate Russia at all.You do know other nations were in WW1 right so yes German did lose WW1 ok

  • @khanbaliq what are you saying i know Germany did lost only Russia had an armistice. Now, Bismarck was not in WW1 he only united Germany well most Austria stayed as a seperate nation.Plus i can go to Wikipedia and change anything i want so dont trust that site

  • France lost World War 2 in 5 weeks! What a joke!

France desereved all it got because of the horrendous punishment they dished out to Germany after World War 1.

Further, France took the pre-WW 2 situation as a joke. It's military commanders were living back in WW 1. The Marginet Line was great if your fighting a war in the 16th century.

The French shout: "Viva Le France!"

The Americans shake their heads and utter: "Stupid French!"

  • @khanbaliq plus in WW1 Russia surrendered or had an armistice what ever you want to call it.plus are you stupid Germans were not Nazis yes they supported the Nazi party that does not mean they were nazis.plus the German people didnt even know about the holocaust untill Himmler announced it to the commanders.

  • @khanbaliq i am no Nazi i know facts and Hitler is a strong socialist who wanted to stop the spread of communism and that 93% is a all out lie.plus without the USSR Germany would of won and without the US Germany would of won so both nations were very important

  • @khanbaliq one thing HItler was trying to stop the spread of Communism and they would of won if the US didnt enter(note i am not saying the US was the only real power in the allies so was the USSR)plus the winter also caused heavy damage to the German army

  • @khanbaliq thas a lie in WW1 Russia surrendered and in WW2 without the US and the USSR Germany would of won.i mean the 2 mega powers on the allies were US and USSR

  • The Germans were not dumb. The Austrian Mad man was the dumb one.

  • It sorta makes it tough to be allies when you have pronounced that they are sub-humans...

  • @historyvideos101 That is one reason. The second is that russia is a huge country which the nazis needed for their idea of "lebensraum".

  • @historyvideos101 yea it also makes it tough when you invade their country after signing a peace treaty

  • The United states got involved with german wars, They should have stayed out of Russia. Hitler was right.

  • WTF....wow what a hater

  • Karma will be a bitch for you...

  • Is that all you got? , what happened? the truth hurts, does it?

I thought you were a bit smarter or educated. Perhaps you ought to check some history books and see which nation has been involved in more conflicts in the past 100 hundreds years.

For the record, all the Nazis are all dead by now and people who promote national socialism in Germany, go to jail.

But that doesn't mean we can't be proud of ourselves.

" Ich bin stolz ein Deutcher zu sein!!!!!!

  • as much as i agree with what you say , one thing is not true... you dont jail nazi's for promoting there beleafes i know this for a fact yeah you parade infront of there houses but still there's some nazis left, in fact some group of nazi's made a party last year 10km from my home in belgium so yeah there still arround.

  • USA has Guantamo base, likes to invade countries for no reason, etc, etc

Throughout history your government has killed as many people as mine probably. Perhaps you should step outside your borders and you'll find out that Americans are not considered any better than Germans as a matter of fact.

You should also check which are the most hated nations on the the planet, one is your nation and the other one is your best friend Israel. I wonder why

  • Well said...nice one.

  • I'll give you Iraq, that was a colossal blunder on the part of the US, but that hardly equates us to Nazi Germany. Anyone who considers the U.S. the equivalent to the Nazis, who started a war that destroyed almost en entire continent and kills almost 100 million people isn't being very rational.

  • My reply was originally directed to Pauldougouba who is trashing Germany for something that happened 65 years ago.

Paul Dougouba , you are such retard!!. nobody is denying the holocaust here. Let me people tell you something to everybody, unfortunately you don't choose the place you are born, and I'm only 28 years old so I don't feel I should apologize for something that my grandfather may had done during the war. I'm not responsible for past!!

Sorry for being German folks! Actually I'm not

  • o yea? how about .... the genocide of the native americans? that was well over 100 million, look it up.. but let's not go so far, how about nuking two cities where women, children, invalids were living.. who had no clue they were about to be turned into ashes.. or something their government did..or how about , yes, exactly, IRAQ, after the UN Said that this would be an illegal act..or now, afghanistan.. when does America stop sucking the blood of modern people ? Stop pointing at hitler, its over

  • argentina wasn`t even able to win a war against the united kingdom xD

  • Wow.. no way were there anywhere close to 100 million native Americans living on the continent. There weren't even 100 million Americans until the 1900s. And most native Americans died from diseases brought over by Europeans the spread of which for the most part was unintentional. The Spanish were far more brutal to natives than Americans ever were.

  • Might want to look up the Population history of American Natives which can be googled, and ranges are made from 54 million, to 105+ million people. The unintentional part is a very bad excuse, since American citizens (since Americans dont exist as a people, but rather a peoples),did everything to drive the Natives off the land, they even imposed harsh methods to take their land in a disgustingly mean way, by appointing a predominantly white male, who had some* native, to sell it as chief to the gpv

  • Actually the estimates range from a couple million on up, and they're very rough guesses. There is no way to truly know how many lived on the continent before Europeans arrived. And I am not arguing that they were given a raw deal, or that Europeans weren't in the wrong because they were but to blame the United States entirely for it it ridiculous.

  • they werent just "given a raw deal"--there was a conscious attempt to exterminate them and take the land

  • maybe not 100 million natives;but the killing off of those who were here was not unintentional

at one point the official doctrine from england was to exterminate them;yes, official stance and intent

the diseases were spread intentionally with infected clothes and blankets; other than that very few native died from euro diseases as they didnt come into intimate contact

again the intent was to clear the continent for the white "race"

  • Deutschland.

  • @PaulDougouba you seem to forget that yours is a nation that is founded on slavery and the genocide of the native population. No country in the world is inorcent but Americans always want to belive their myth that they are the pure, they are the just and they are the rightous. A good example of this is Iraq you did it for the oil and have set peace back in the region for the next 100 years.

The tradiigdy of WWII was if we had not of destroyed germany after WWI it would not have happened.

  • OK NAZI....what ever you say Hitler.

  • @PaulDougouba

Name calling and flag waving how mature.

Are you so naive to believe that your nation has no blood on its hands ?

History is full of holocausts and slaughter of innocents we can do nothing about them but acknowledge they happened.

Yes it happened and yes we need to remember it happened but its just one of many tradigdies in the history of the world.

Your problem Paul is you want to belive your nations myth read some history please a grow up a little.

  • Huh huh....

It is obvious you are a Racist and a Nazi.

How you can defend the Holocaust is beyond me.

I am calling you out on You Tube as a Racist and an Anti Semite.

  • Your not listing to me I never defended the holocaust I simply stated that it is one of many such events.

I am not racist nor am I a Nazi The colour of skin means nothing to me we are all one species after that our differences are merely cultural and are mostly not that big.

Their is little point in arguing with you as you don't want to listen

  • thanks god for the allies!

  • The group that executed the people in oradur-sur glane was a SS group called Das Reich or Der führer(dont remember the name) And they executed all people then! They got a rapport that they got to wrong town and killed innocent Civil not even jews! the real town was name like Oradur-(something forgot)

  • "outside world was horrified" - actually not. Germany was still seen in the 30's as a counterweight against bolshevism, even in Britain. But of course you don't find that from some oversentimentalist Brit doccie from 1973.

  • This is THE best documentary series ever made.

  • So sad that Hindenburg--one of the greatest Germans---was by this point a befuddled old man signing whatever Hitler placed in front of him.

  • December ,7, 1941 is day america will live in infamy

  • man better get the act together. time is almost up

  • Still the best documentary series about the war. Absolutely essential viewing.

  • Hitler in a top-hat. Stovepipe Hitler.

    *chuckles*

Fashion is such a flunky fling.

What disturbs me watching these 1930 views of laughing smiling children and young people... is how so many of them would commit the most vile atrocities in a few years.

    And many many would die.

  • Too right, mate. Thank the Good Lord that it stopped before it completely engulfed Europe and took complete control of it.

  • Your good lord could have stopped the whole thing from the start if he was ALL powerful.

  • That was totally necessary.

  • well people should stop throwing the word Lord around as if he or it exists. when it comes to such catastrophies he seems to be on everyones side or none. im tired of hearing it. sorry you had to write.

  • great great great documentary. hope it comes out on blu ray soon

  • This documentary got me interested in World War II and for the past 30 years I've had a passionate interest in that period of history.

  • The name of the village was Oradour sur Glane in France.

  • i know its in france !!,but where exactly on the map is it,cheers.

  • where exactly is the village in the begining of this episode?

  • Oradour-sur-Glane in France.

  • Hitler came to power not just to (Help) the German people, but to gain political power, wealth, popularity, and crush his enemies, like Ernst Rohm.

But because of the decisions that Dogmatic, Foolish, Ugly, Stupid, Facist Bastard made, 70 million lost their lives in a war that could've been avoided!

  • Historians say that no war was more preventable.

  • 1 thing stop thinking he killed all of those people u ever heard of Japan they were at war with China and without WW2 we would not be in this time we would of never landed on the moon Germany might of but not the US communism would still be there without WW2 so ya its a bad war but i am glad it happened

  • 7:29 Where one burns books, one eventually burns people! Damn that's deep, it carries such an ominous overtone regarding all of the terrible atrocities which would soon follow.

  • its not deep, its just history repeating...

then again, maybe its deep, i dont know.

  • When I first watched this documentary series, after watching this gripping introduction, I knew I was in for one of the best pieces of television in history. I was not disappointed. There are only a few documentaries that even come close to portraying an event as well as this one has. For instance, Ken Burns' Civil War and also the new documentary WWII in HD on the History Channel.

  • I highly reccomend the DVD set of this series...lots of extras in addition to this very well done and compelling account of WWII

  • How about Ken Burns' THE WAR which also dealt with World War II?

  • Definitely a great documentary but I'd put the ones I listed above that.

  • I agree with you.

  • Adolf was offered to take power just as he was losing power. The video explains a background, the political vacuum and the weak opposition.

This is the point of this video not the rights and wrongs of war.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • That's my point. Killing innocent people face to face, listening to them scream in terror, hearing the children cry as you empty your automatic weapon into them takes a certain kind of mind set. This was not an isolated incedent. How many hundreds of civilians were executed by the Germans as reprisal for some act carried out by partisans. When you add the Holocaust into the equation one can only cast a jaundiced eye toward what seems a flaw in the German character especially.
