  • "vision my own skeleton swimming in eternal fire" that is some really deep shit. nobody does it like this anymore. Nas = one of the G.O.A.T

  • FAITH WILSON

  • i did alot of time in intensive care i cried hard GOD IM SO THANKFUL MUCH LUV

  • I once said - if I ever make a record, I'll take a check and put something away for a rainy day.. But look at me now ten years deep, since the project bench wit crack in my sock sleep...I never asked to be top of raps elite, just a ghetto child tryin'a learn the traps of the street....but look at me now

  • I remember the first time I heard this song. I can relate lord, real brothers raise up bitch niggas stay back. 1 in a million! Peace Nasir.

  • If he is my inspiree, than I die trying to one day posess the skills he has, and express words through music like he does. I may eventually find the inner freestyle/writter in me, but I will never be as good as the king, NAS

  • "It's suicidal, how I smoke in so much la, I saw a dead bird flyin through a broken sky"

    Can someone explain that one?

  • @1Blaugrana its poetry, it means whatever your perception makes it out to me

Nas meant it in his own way(idk what it is)

To me, I can relate it to how everyone in america is like a dead bird flyin through a broken sky

We're all zombies within a life with no true meaning(dead)

It can mean whatever your perception makes it out to be, thats an element of poetry

  • @1Blaugrana My take is that he used to get so high-from weed-that he had hallucinations (simply put).

I'm sure there are others who will make it deeper than that. In the last line of the song Nas thanks GOD for his maturity... and that's what I've based my response on.

  • My Favorite song on stillmatic the classic.

  • Strait fire old skool shit

  • this always brings me back to when i was in new york in 2001 during the jay-z vs nas beef. the streets were on fire. i miss brooklyn

  • The plain was to knock me out the top of the game

  • i did a version of this beat check it out lemme kno

youtube search: NYC RAPPER KILLED IT!! CRAZY PUNCHLINES!!

  • The guy is simply a professor in the genre. A wordsmith in the genre. Not many artists in the genre have invented lines like "I saw a dead bird flyin through a broken sky." And not many emcees have Wikiquote page. His words as a 21 years old, are still lessons to some of us that are 30 years old today.

Just one among my other Africans here paying tribute to our black brother.

  • @ibistanley well said brother

  • Somebody tell me Jay and Nas werent talking to each other on Blueprint and Stillmatic

  • @hot1fromnc they were o.o...

  • Say yes for oldschool !

  • If Nas had this album produced in its entirety by DJ Premier, L.E.S., Large Professor and Pete Rock (although I heard somewhere that he had a fallout with him), than, only than could he have called this a sort of sequel to "Illmatic" which is kinda what he was trying to achieve at the time. Instead we got another Nas album that's lyrically uniformily good, but is 75% skippable because of the production. The few classic tracks on this album have beats by either Premier or Large Pro (such as this)

  • One of the best songs of all human history.

  • I can not get enough of this song. It reminds me of Fela Kuti! Music moves us!!!! I can see classical, modern, jazz, afro-carib, and etc dancers performing to this. Its a liberation (with or without words), we need Nas to come back with full force!!!!

  • and i thought j cole made and killed this beat on "im the man". No, Nas was the first and NAS killed this beat.

  • Classic

  • fire. who produced it?too lazy 2 look up

  • @Redrizzle187 It was produced by Large Professor

  • @8238807 thx. he a legend man.

  • Nas is the man! Straight to the point!

View talent, click link show your support..Appreciated ; )

  • suicidal, high, smoking so much lye, i saw a dead bird flying thru a broken sky........fire!

  • @nyblusaiyan la..

  • j. cole was the first time i heard this beat. so dope. 73 til infinity tho!

  • 2:55 is it just me, or is that pause/play/ redo button new or has there always been a replay button rather than a play button?

  • This song is too fucking raw

  • "Stairin' at my reflection in the mirror sittin' still in the chair like my conception,

when everything around me got cloudy the chair became a kings throne my destiny found me,

it was clear why the struggle was so painful,

metamorphosis this is what I changed to,

    and God I'm so thankful."

    -Fire

  • @freedfighter96 i think it might be "starin at my reflection, sittin still in the mirror like mike concepcion"

Michael concepcion was one of the original crips in L.A...like a literal O.G

  • @shmayy obv i meant "sittin still in my chair**..."

  • Comment removed

  • @freedfighter96 its not staring at my reflectiion in the mirror sittin' still in the chair like my conception , its starin' at my reflection in the mirror sittin' still in the chair like mike conception mike was a origonal crip niggah from the 60's , 70's

  • Nasir Jones is the "Truth" Smh Paul Pierce #LakersNation "All Day"

  • You got rappers and you got Nas

  • To the people who died in 9/11 R.I.P.

  • @FLAMESJAMES11 What the fuck does that have to do with this song.

  • Straight Classic

  • king of ny, one of the kings of hip hop. Im sorry, but almost no1 claims that title, he actually makes me think hip hop when i listen to his style and speak.

  • if you listen closely the sample is actually saying Sugar man

  • @hakeem215 you're stupid

  • @ForbiddenWarrior1 Actually he's not because the sample was taken from a song called "Sugar Man".

  • @imag1291 still pretty stupid for thinking sugar man is being said in this song.

  • @whoabiach How are you being stupid if he actually is saying sugar man.

  • @imag1291 are you actually listening to the lyrics? lol he's clearly saying "you're da man"

  • @whoabiach I'm listening to lyrics and I'm hearing "you're da man". But I've heard the original and i know that he is actually saying "sugar man". I don't understand why it's so difficult for you to comprehend lol; the original said "sugar man" but Nas used it because it sounded like it was "you're da man".

  • @imag1291 ehhhhh no, i can see where your coming from though. so i respect what your saying, but really he must be drowning the shit outta that S sound if thats the case. otherwise i don't agree. YOU'RE DA MAN though

  • @whoabiach He is drowning it out, so that it sounds like "you're da man". 'Cause he's the fucking man.

  • what does this beat remind me of....?

  • NAS the GOAT no question...check out my video response below the vid,(N.A.K.) just tryna keep real hip hop alive

  • Everyone that loves lyrics thumbs up..... But everyone in the right mind knows Canibus "Is The Man"

  • @bmoney6960 nas > canibus 3000X over.

  • @lukejeter7 he is better but don't disrespect bis like that . He is almost on nasir's level..

  • @benja303 not imo

  • @lukejeter7 More like the other way around. Nas will never be on the same level, not in a million years.

  • @365Cani nahh go suck a cock. nas is da man

  • @lukejeter7 YOU'RE DA MAN you understand haha

  • @lukejeter7 Nah b.

  • @lukejeter7

canibus shouldnt even been mentioned with nas...dude was never good

  • @nyblusaiyan yeah i personally feel like a very few rappers can even be mentioned around nas. pac, biggie, pun, big l, method man, etc. when it comes to story telling nas and biggie r close 2 eachother. warning by biggie is crazyyy

  • @lukejeter7

biggie did it like no other...pun and big l was just nasty with the lyrics...honestly, i wasnt much of a pac fan...all eyez on me disc one was dope tho....7 day theory has some nice cuts as well

  • @nyblusaiyan pac was just so real. pun and l were super lyrical ya

  • Comment removed

  • My life.

  • Nas is on a whole different level than Pac and Big, being Nas is a MUCH better lyricist. Everything he releases, he speaks truth. He's definitely top 5 material.

  • Some people just doesnt have any hip hop knowledge. How can u dislike this? Nas is 1 of the realest lyricist to ever spit it!!!!

  • smh 21 ppl clicked the wrong like button...

  • up to now the only rapper that i could say is in nas class is 2pac but dont get me wrong i love pac music, but nas is better with words 2pac sings from the heart he shows more feelings in his music GOD forbid if nas dies today or tom is only then ppl will say he the best rapper that ever live but my personal view is he is the best wright now

  • how this get 21 dislikes Smh

  • @Bryy610

Lil' Wayne people hate real stuff man, for real.

  • nas over jay z

    tupac over biggie

    mobb deep over the rest

  • @gentlesod mobb deep over the rest? you do know they sold out right?

  • @ThumbsUpMike

sell outs but still legends go listen to murda muzik or hnic

  • @gentlesod actually being real and original made mobb deep legends

ive listened to a lot of mobb deep, i know enough about them to say opinions about them doing songs from the heart and then to selling out with faggot 50cent

  • GOD SON is one heck of a rapper! MY greatest... IDGAF what others might think! NAS is the best eva!

  • N.A to the S.I.R, if i wasnt i would of been Escobar......

  • Fact: Nas is the highest ranking rapper of his generation (ahead of The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z and 2Pac

  • what a beat man..what a beat..

  • This foo is up there with Pac and Biggie, legend status

    Nas is illmatic

  • @iamnottheshit

    Biggie = Tupac

    Nas > Biggie

    Nas > Tupac

  • @mctroll89 Nope.

  • @imag1291 tupac and biggie released nowhere near as many great albums as nas has. GTFO fool....

  • @mctroll89 All I'm saying is that he's up there with them. You comparing them and saying who is better is stupid. They're all good and some excel in different places.

  • @imag1291 you putting THEM on the pedestal instead of nas is even more retarded

  • @mctroll89 I'm putting them all on a pedestal. I'm saying they are better than most other rappers. I'm not saying which of the three is the best though.

  • If hip hop not dead soiljah fag would have never came out an real mcs would not be dying alt of a sudden

  • Nas beat jay I mean nas is one of the best since 94 illmatic

  • @KryptonDaVillain fuck jay z

  • @KryptonDaVillain No need to call him a faggot.

  • @KryptonDaVillain give nas his respect,im a huge Jay fan too.. but Nas is one of the greatest of all time.

  • @KryptonDaVillain then why are you here? go listen to jay and quit bitchin tho

  • HipHop's not dead. FUCK YOU!

  • i heard this song for the first time just a few days ago & for some reason it put me into really deep thought

  • Damn, I remember this CD. Always had it on after & before school

  • it's a dedication to the falling man in wtc.

  • This song is serious!!!

  • "Wish I could flap wings and fly away

To where black kings and Ghana stay

So I could get on my flesh right away

But that'll be the day when it's peace

When my gat don't need to spray

When these streets are safe to play"

That reminds me of my life T_T

  • @freedfighter96 So I could get old, my flesh rot away*

  • Since the project bench, wit cracks in my socks, sleep.

  • @mecks23....this Hip Hop bullshit today is well alive...Rap is dead

  • I always felt nas shoulda done a vid for this.. alot of his songs coulda been singles/vids...Black girl lost...take it in blood ...shootouts...favor 4 a favor ..the list goes on

  • when notorious b.i.g left this world, the crown was given to Nas as the king of east coast hip hop!!

  • @Neigah88 Nas has always been the king of New York, Illmatic n It Was Written > Ready To Die n Life After Death.

  • @CounterStrike211 slow down there buddy... Nas is phenomenal but Biggies the best

  • Nas - too real, Nas - true king

It's however you feel, g'head, you swing

    Deep, only few will understand!

  • no look at now emine (etc.) HIP HOP hip hop never dies

  • @junhoblack eminem is candy pop

  • Your arms too short to box with god

I don't kill soloists only kill squads

One of best rappers all time

  • BEST RAPPER ALIVE BIG UP NAS

  • 'saw a dead bird flyin thru a broken sky'

i listen to A LOT of hip hop but i gotta say thats still one of the most original shit i ever heard.... overall very inspirational song, NAS GOAT

  • im still tryna figga out why this song dont have AT LEAST 4 Million Hits

This Song Is to Dope Fo' Dat.

  • Damn 2001 what a crazy year, but a classic year for hip hop! Blueprint came out too.. the last prolific Beef of the Hip Hop

  • this been my joint since i first heard it back in 01'...

nas has also influenced my music in so many ways...i owe a great debt for everything he's taught me in music and as a man....when i feel like im at my witz in with problems and a piece of my sanity starts to disappear momentarily, i put this track on to remind me of what i've accomplished and where i'm going...thanx nas ur da man...

  • GOAT

  • LEGEND.

  • since the project bench with cracks in my socks sleep (missing lyric)

  • wtf how could this have any dislikes... 21 mothafuckas never had no ups and down

  • Look up Painandmuzik mainlined on YouTube , underground rap group from Michigan, they have a whole new sound !!

  • < "Like"

  • I hate it when ppl especially backpackers join the "hip hop is dead" bandwagon. I if want to listen to hip hop dont ever listen to radio or mtv. Each period has its good and bad mcs. For example Run DMC did a song bragging about Addidas yet ppl call them conscious. Some of the mcs in the golden era talked about hoes, swag, violence, and street cred like MC Hammer, Too Short, Ice T, N.W.A., BDP, 2 Live Crew, LL Cool J

  • my favs are:

    1.Tupac

    2.Nas

  • @sabl0696 LOL nice simple list i like it

  • @techno2039 yup. i would also probably add immortal technique

  • that sample is amazing

  • i want them to play this song at my funeral
