If he is my inspiree, than I die trying to one day posess the skills he has, and express words through music like he does. I may eventually find the inner freestyle/writter in me, but I will never be as good as the king, NAS
@1Blaugrana My take is that he used to get so high-from weed-that he had hallucinations (simply put).
I'm sure there are others who will make it deeper than that. In the last line of the song Nas thanks GOD for his maturity... and that's what I've based my response on.
The guy is simply a professor in the genre. A wordsmith in the genre. Not many artists in the genre have invented lines like "I saw a dead bird flyin through a broken sky." And not many emcees have Wikiquote page. His words as a 21 years old, are still lessons to some of us that are 30 years old today.
Just one among my other Africans here paying tribute to our black brother.
If Nas had this album produced in its entirety by DJ Premier, L.E.S., Large Professor and Pete Rock (although I heard somewhere that he had a fallout with him), than, only than could he have called this a sort of sequel to "Illmatic" which is kinda what he was trying to achieve at the time. Instead we got another Nas album that's lyrically uniformily good, but is 75% skippable because of the production. The few classic tracks on this album have beats by either Premier or Large Pro (such as this)
I can not get enough of this song. It reminds me of Fela Kuti! Music moves us!!!! I can see classical, modern, jazz, afro-carib, and etc dancers performing to this. Its a liberation (with or without words), we need Nas to come back with full force!!!!
yo just anwser this if u got will desire heart the art of ryme ghetto storys to tell struggles to tell shit to rap about. what does it matter if ur black , white , brown, yellow , pink, green, shit who cares im white an i just wanna no if it fuckin matters to yall

@whoabiach I'm listening to lyrics and I'm hearing "you're da man". But I've heard the original and i know that he is actually saying "sugar man". I don't understand why it's so difficult for you to comprehend lol; the original said "sugar man" but Nas used it because it sounded like it was "you're da man".

@mctroll89 I'm putting them all on a pedestal. I'm saying they are better than most other rappers. I'm not saying which of the three is the best though.

aight hate all u guys want i love 90s rap i cant stand todays music or lil wayne but when ppl say f**k lil wayne the all say wayne theres alot of other bad rappers like waka drake fabolous but u guys hatin cuz hes the most succesful jus sumthin to think about
@90srap4eva waka lmfao. its not hating. if u listen to an album such as this and then listen to one of those rappers u just mentioned, you will understand. it really isnt hating.
this been my joint since i first heard it back in 01'...
nas has also influenced my music in so many ways...i owe a great debt for everything he's taught me in music and as a man....when i feel like im at my witz in with problems and a piece of my sanity starts to disappear momentarily, i put this track on to remind me of what i've accomplished and where i'm going...thanx nas ur da man...
I hate it when ppl especially backpackers join the "hip hop is dead" bandwagon. I if want to listen to hip hop dont ever listen to radio or mtv. Each period has its good and bad mcs. For example Run DMC did a song bragging about Addidas yet ppl call them conscious. Some of the mcs in the golden era talked about hoes, swag, violence, and street cred like MC Hammer, Too Short, Ice T, N.W.A., BDP, 2 Live Crew, LL Cool J
"vision my own skeleton swimming in eternal fire" that is some really deep shit. nobody does it like this anymore. Nas = one of the G.O.A.T

Can someone explain that one?
1Blaugrana 3 weeks ago
@1Blaugrana its poetry, it means whatever your perception makes it out to me
Nas meant it in his own way(idk what it is)
To me, I can relate it to how everyone in america is like a dead bird flyin through a broken sky
We're all zombies within a life with no true meaning(dead)
It can mean whatever your perception makes it out to be, thats an element of poetry

nas has also influenced my music in so many ways...i owe a great debt for everything he's taught me in music and as a man....when i feel like im at my witz in with problems and a piece of my sanity starts to disappear momentarily, i put this track on to remind me of what i've accomplished and where i'm going...thanx nas ur da man...
