@inceptionof1994 You've "seen"? please tell me where I have YET to see footage of a tiger taking on a bull gaur. All I see is tigers eating out of carcasses. Meaning that the gaur could have died of natural causes or was killed by another gaur.

The biggest tiger would win the biggest lion no doubt. But at the same weight its 50/50. It depends but id give the upper hand to male lion because its mane protects, gives confident and they might be slightly more aggressive which is important in a fight.

I don't think Lions/Tigers will attack a fully grown elephant unless they can help it. It has nothing to do with mere illusion of size but has everything to do with the elephant's tusks and feet.
They would hunt unprotected baby elephants or pregnant female ones without a second thought though.

Probably the Tiger being 25% bigger, and the elephant being 20% smaller change the equation enough where the elephant fears it.

They are more agile, more powerful, more versatile and more lethal. A tiger can attack and kill by his own any known animal, ANY. It has attacked & killed large crocodiles (in the water), anacondas, bears, etc. And if it lived in Africa, it would attack adult elephants, hippos, rhinos, ... A lion cannot even hunt an adult buffalo.

guar might be the biggest wild cattle but it's not the fastest and they are not bigger than hippos, elephants, and giraffes. i have seen lions kill all of these. i still don't see any real proof that a tiger can kill a lion. maybe beat a tiger can beat a lion in a fight and vice versa that is possible. but saying a tiger will kill a lion i don't believe it.

The biggest tiger would win the biggest lion no doubt. But at the same weight its 50/50. It depends but id give the upper hand to male lion because its mane protects, gives confident and they might be slightly more aggressive which is important in a fight.

Tigers only hunt smaller bears, grissly is out of the question.
Lions need to hunt in packs because of Africa, while the gaur is the largest mammal in eurasia, like buffalo is largest mammal in America but in africa the buffalo is a bit smaller then both but not the largest mammal.
Lions pride have killed juvenile bush elephants which no tiger or grissly would EVER have a chance of killing.

Lions are impressive because they can coordinate an attack in a group, tigers and bears don't have the brain capacity to do this.

There was an African Bush elephant which was a FREAK and actually got as big as the largest [average sized] mammals to have ever lived, which is BIG, bigger then most dinosaurs.

I don't think Lions/Tigers will attack a fully grown elephant unless they can help it. It has nothing to do with mere illusion of size but has everything to do with the elephant's tusks and feet.
They would hunt unprotected baby elephants or pregnant female ones without a second thought though.

While that your theories of size are interesting, the above video shows that despite the size, horns/antlers smaller carnivores hunt bigger and heavier herbivores.
Is there proof that Lions never hunt Elephants in Africa?
In India, where Lions and Elephants are smaller (therefore the same difference in size as Africa holds), there are quite a few stories wherein Lions have hunted Elephants.
The Elephant in the video is a young bull and looks not fully grown. It is all alone.

@schizophrantic That's a good point, but I don't agree with your figures. According to the Smithsonian "Asian elephant (Elephas maximus): up to 11,000 pounds" ... "African savanna elephant (Loxodonta africana)(right): up to 13,200 pounds;"
This is on the same page, so it's an "Apples to Apples" comparison.
It's still a good point, the African is bigger. It's just not by a huge amount.

African elephant is usually 4 meters tall, Asian 3 meters; add to that the huge ears of the African elephant that extend to its sides thus making the appearance of being twice as big, so they can bluff size to scare the other animal in a face off -e.g., the rooster's feathers around its neck puffs out to make it look bigger and more menacing.

@schizophrantic It's actually more like 1/5 greater. Almost exactly.
The ears do make the elephant look bigger. Even fish do this (they flare their gills). But, the question isn't why the Tiger isn't afraid of the elephant, it's why the elephant is afraid of the tiger. Big ears don't make the elephant braver really, they just make the opponent more afraid.
Probably the Tiger being 25% bigger, and the elephant being 20% smaller change the equation enough where the elephant fears it.

And these tricks to look bigger make animals bluff and think they might have a chance to scare off the opponent, thus you could say it makes them braver.

@spahnman Cape buffaloes are about half the size of gaurs so a grown cape buffalo would roughly weigh the same as a young gaur. In a fight both are about the same size and immensely strong, but the lion's advantage comes from experience (defending the pride is about their only reason for existence) and the protective mane around its neck helps too.

@repulsifik totally right. Tigers are stronger when viewed alone as they live/hunt solitary. However, the lion pride, which is how lions operate/hunt is far stronger than any solitary tiger. Even the biggest tiger would have no chance against a pride of lions, and in most cases, that's how an encounter would occur.

@666sentrax Honestly the Gaur may not have been killed, but it may have died from sickness or other sorts. Notice the Gaur isn't bleeding in anywhere? That is generally how elephants die from predators such as lions. One that is sick and weak, or possibly just old will practically let itself die so that the others can move on.
