@13thBaktun 1.50 X 30 is 45 bucks, and thats if you emptied the battery every single day. My electricity is cheaper more like a 1.15 a day, again from a dead battery. Usually I'm at 50% when I plug in for the night.. sooo... 50-75 cents a day?
Fail. As always with ever single video about the volt, more focus is on the music, the driver, or the cinematographer. Shut the hell up, turn off the stupid jingles, and film the damn car and its sounds or claims lack there of. A clip > 15 mph would not hurt also.
An American car company make an EV. That is oxymoron. America is one of the biggest backers of oil. Back in he 90's there was an EV and the oil companies made sure it never went into mass production. Why are they not stopping this one?
@firebourn American car companies doesn't back oil, the oil companies make sure of that... Also we don't need that stinkin' foreign oil. No thanks Arabia, which will run out of oil in 2012...
First the car drives 25 - 50 miles on battery alone. After that an onboard gas generator will generator power for the next 300+ miles until you can recharge or refuel. Where people listening to the video? Second GM has being testing Fuel Cell vehicles (~100) for years "Project Driveway" probably more than Honda and Toyota combined. The fuel cell is the size of a 4 cylinder engine. I wonder what car GM has that is electric and has room for a 4 cylinder electric generator - Volt?
"On a full charge, you'll get 25-50 miles of driving (because THAT'S not a big gap /sarcasm). So if you recharge everyday, you'll never have to use gasoline."
I don't know where the hell THEY'RE driving to, but most people could easily go over that much just to and from work...and that's not even including going around town on the weekend.
Almost had an accident last time I drove a Prius , I was playing with all the gadgets and graphs . I'm sure I'm gonna crash this one , that green ball got me hypnotized
Hydrogen fuel vehicles are coming and in the mean time volts are gonna be clammering for attention but its obviously gonna be a fail and i give this car about 3 yrs before it get the hook. Honda is prepared for the hydrogen era....california, washington, orgegon and BC are going on the hyrogen grid and the infastructure is being put into place. this electric bs is not even practical for most states.
Yay! lets spend $40K on a car still dependent on fossil fuels for energy (electricity doesn't come from storing lightning bolts. it comes from mostly coal power plants.)
The car is way too expensive (even with the govt subsidies, which is even more ridiculous) for its capabilities. Taxpayers are going to pay for a select few who are dumb enough to pay for a car that drives 25-50 miles on a single charge. And, I haven't heard much about how it's going to perform in the middle of winter in, say, Green Bay, Wisconsin or Alaska! How's the battery going to handle the cold? Most people probably would end up buying its gasoline only brother, Cruze.
its a hybrid you fools. Full tank and charge will get you close to 400 miles. With normal driving its the equivalent of 72 MPG taking into consideration the electrical energy used. Only using electricity you get the equivalent of 105mpg based on the calculation that a gallon of gas contains 33.7 kW-hr of energy. Gasoline engine gets 40mpg. You average them together with reasonable cycling between 2 engines and you get 72mpg. People hate this car for reasons that dont exist.
@Wonderbread1023 When this car was first appeared it was an electric car but when it was advertised on tv they changed it to a hybrid. Now they went back to electric for some reason. Car companies dont want electric cars because they make less money for them; since their is no combustion chamber, the engine doesnt get warn out as often meaning fewer repairs. So most likely they would make this a hybrid again, unless we already ran out of fossil fuel.
@KevalProduction What a retarded conspiracy theory. Batteries do wear out and all the techie gadgets fail probably as often as their mechanical counterparts. But yeah, there must be a conspiracy somewhere.
8 hours for a full charge that is only 25 miles, thats pretty steep, but at least we are moving forward. We not really, we dont have much clean electricity.
@undertow427 There have always been economical cars and they have been equally offset by radical performance cars. You give me a volt or the Nissan Leaf, Ill give you a Zonda, Veyron, Aero SS. As long as we have the availability of gas that we have now we will always have performance cars.
Nice car. Now I wait for nano-technology to get to Lithium Ion batteries so we can get triple the electric range.

@13thBaktun $50... i spend 30 dollars a week on gas, so that's $120 a month, so i'd be saving $70 if i had me some chevy volt!

@firebourn probably because of all the back lash they got for it. Also, they might have learned to expand their product line to sell more cars.

Many people have >25 miles to work and then you have to use the backup tank as well.
