  • For the record Bertha was NOT older than Mother Smith. She was her adopted daughter, but NOT older than Mother Smith!

  • The DVD of "Say amen somebody" (brought out to celebrate the 25th anniversary) can be watched with the directors commentory and he says "many people have commented that Bertha looks older than mother, in fact she was older than mother, but never the less was her adopted daughter." That is where I got this from. I have tried to find out about Bertha but have been unable to do so.

  • Her eldest daughter was adopted and in fact was actually older than Willie Mae.

  • Umm, how does that work when you adopt someone older than you? No respect. Just asking. lol

  • her oldest daughter played piano for her but not in this video. The daughter im referring to is the woman helping her to her seat at the end and sings some of the song.

  • if you saw the movie mother ford looks like a real good cook in the movie.

  • I bet she was a very good down home cook. I was raised around a lady who could be her twin and everytime I see Willie Mae I think of her.

  • @ivanberry19 Yeah-the whole point of the film is the she did her cookin' on the side! That God she left more than a recipe for a good pot of greens.

  • What is the name of the movie?

  • Say Amen, Somebody.

  • This is one of my favorite selections from the film that's not on the soundtrack, presumably because it's so short. Thanks for uploading it in triplicate!
