Probably (not sure) because he's never been 'trendy'. His voice, the complexity of his albums, the constant deep envelop between music and lyrics, his theatrical approach, the face-painting even if he doesn't play black metal, and an 'impopular' musical genre (today people listen no more to music like this)... all these things are not easy to understand from the noobs. Anyway, in the '80s he was very famous: lots of 30 years old metalheads adore the songs that King did.
