new to skiing...guy says "the wax for warmer skiing conditions has a lower melting point and the wax for colder temps has a higher melting point" that sounds backwards...is this correct? Should not a wax used in warmer conditions have the higher application melt point so it will stay better on the ski???
@shoegooguru "colder" wax is harder, harder wax has a higher melting point. The melting point is irrelevant to snow conditions, it is a property of the wax. Cold new snow (well below freezing) has very sharp crystals. A softer wax will be slower in cold new snow. Old snow has crystals that, unless the temperature has stayed well below freezing, have begun to deteriorate. As snow crystals age, the sharp points deteriorate and the crystals become more condensed and rounded (sintered)

He is correct about the melting points. Not sure why but I'll guess it has something to do with harder vs softer snow crystals.

the warmer/softer waxes do better dealing with the more rounded crystals and higher moisture content.
