Yes exactly! Who the heck does Roger think he is? Who ever heard of a bass player firing the founding superstar keyboard player of a mega band. I realize Roger did a lot of the writing, and frankly, Sid Barrett is way over hyped, and all of the really great Floyd came after he was gone. The earliest Floyd is noise that could bore even a tripper. That said, the Pulse concert is fantastic and Roger's absence is surprising un-missed.

I am not sure but they hadn't talked since the band did the last tour , the Wall Tour. They were fighting alot about the creative differences of the band.
@Tom6093 Saying 'ego' is writing off the dynamics, I suggest reading Nick Mason's book, it's vast, and very entertaining. Inside Out. I also think Dave is just very adament about not brushing aside the way everyone was treated up to the Final Cut sessions, where the animosity overshadowed anything prior

Rogers is that one guy in the group that's a complete dick, but is the main contributor. But right now I'm just wishing I wasn't two years old when PULSE was happening. =/
I was 10 years old... long before I realized that Pink Floyd were musical innovators and the greatest band ever to grace this good earth and that ACDC are talentless moochers who have made millions off meaningless songs about sex and... yeah, more sex.
Sex sells though, wait a minute you haven't had sex so...
ACDC is a great rock band and has been for quite some time. I would hardly call what they do mooching! I am a Pink Floyd fan as well so I respect your stance from a compositional standpoint but from a miniscule degree. These two groups are HUGE any way you slice it. Read Maximum Rock-N-Roll about ACDC and you will gain a new respect I'll bet.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh please, and Floyd made millions off of wanky pretentious songs about tired subjects for angsty teenagers that can't get laid, while real innovators like The Monks, Can and The Silver Apples were forgotten. At least ACDC had fun. And sex is awesome.
Syd Barrett though, holy shit was that guy ground breaking! Whatever happened to his backing band, I wonder....
Oh, fuck no, I was just pointing out the absurdity of the original statement. As for my feeling, I guess I'm upset about the guys that had to give up making music, it would be nice if they got that second album deal and got all the 2nd chances and budget Pink Floyd did. Another Monks album, or Silver Apples album in the early 70s would have been really interesting. I also like giving shoutouts to obscure artists and giving prog rock fans shit,, which is kinda silly.
I guess so... also I think alot of people are right when they said that it could be the final destination of a fourty year journey known as Pink Floyd. Yeah! And like you said about honoring Richard, but honor Syd as well (guess they did that in "Wish You Were Here").
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Waters is an asshole! He is best left out with the trash. A mediocre bassist. a decent writer, but without Gilmore, this band never works. However, Floyd without waters ain't no thing and a whole lot less drama.
Without Roger Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd wouldn't be what it is today -- most of the songs post Barrett that went on to be well known were about him in one form or another -- even George Roger Waters went on to admit this of The Walls major construct, as far as the movie depictation is concerned. All of them made it what it is today, musically: Barrett, Waters, Gilmour, Mason and Wright. Take one away before its time, and it's incomplete.
Not sure I agree with the comment about the finale. I only saw Gilmour.
However, what is true but not mentioned is that, when the group got wind of the increased sales in their albums after Live 8, they set about giving that to charity.
Confortably was a collaboration of Roger and David; what they differed on was the delivery of the song. David wanted a more melodramatic entrance and they fought horribly to get their way.
I have spent so much money on Pink Floyd bootleg cd's, My wife wants to kill me, I can't afford anything nice anymore. (check out my collection through my name) I wish they would reunite to help me out of my debt, as well as my addiction to ambien,
well i think they were all good i mean yeah roger did wright the lyrics but i mean without the rest of the band i mean it just wouldn't be the same they all r the pink floyd and u can't replace any of them
in this vid it sounds like dave is being mean but if u think about remember back then when roger was always suin them 4 copyright n shit
i mean thats probably y he really didn't wanna do it but the concert isn't 4 roger its 4 their audience n the cause
I think you should stop argueing, if Roger or David "is"/"was" Pink Floyd.
The Band wouldn't exist without Roger and it wouldn't exist without Dave or anyone else.
They both (and Nick, Rick & Syd) were important for Pink Floyd...
There wouldn't be The Wall without David, there wouldn't be The Division Bell without Roger (because I agree with Pickinvint), and do you think Wish You Were here would exist withou Syd?
For years I listened to The Division Bell never having a clue how clear it was that it was David Gilmour's pouring his heart out over Roger Waters. Nearly every song describes his feelings on Waters:
HIGH HOPES: "There was a ragged band who followed in our footsteps. Running before time took our dreams away" and "Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side"
Can you imagine people leaving positive comments about the amazing talent and input this group had, to output the amazing music they have? It is easy to be critical, if one really has the desire to. Just maybe if we put out the gratitude, and passionate desire to see and hear one more tour, it just might happen. We want one more album, I hear that.
How will it happen, if indeed it can? Not by putting vinegar, but honey into our comments.
well now, ya see all this bickerin'and pointless debate about who was more important than who and who played, wrote and sang what is exactly why roger 'apparently' put pressure on rick to go and then ultimately left himself, thus, tragically splitting up what was, AS A UNIT!!!,,,,an untouchable unique class act,and the 5 blokes who made up the floyd legacy are equally vital to that.. i reckon.
roger and syd were the true friends in the band - soul mates from being kids at school - hence all the classic albums are heavily waters written with insanity overtones of syd - gilmours contribution is equally impressive - as the tour de force floyd albums are musically his - conceptually waters .
Gilmour wrote a theme for his solo album in the late 70's.But they used the theme in a pink floyd song.this song is that.gilmour is a good guitar player and vocalist.By contrast Waters has awful voice and he isn't a good bassist.
i watched it live on tv (ive seen comfy numb many times live) i think bob should of been knighted just for doing this let alone all the rest of the stuff he has done. he is a hero of our time like chris martin said. floyd rule, it was a very special night.
You cant say that! Forget the wall to me floyd were at their best when they were working together. Its not about who is the best its how you put it all together and to be fair to waters he played a massive part in that
evidently not familiar with the work that embodies floyd. Obviously never saw waters in concert. WHy fight about it, or take sides. No waters, no barrett, no floyd. gilmour cant write. look at his own stuff. and look at the sold out shows waters is getting. you boar me
yes waters wrote almost every album and thats what i give him respect for his ability to write, my point was roger waters is the classic example of a stuck up british snob who thinks hes better than the rest, thats why they arent friends anymore because by the time of post animals, and the wall he thought he was the band, and what are you talking about gilmour cant write every album after roger kicked ass. YOU BOAR ME WITH HOW LITTLE YOU KNOW
YOU ANNOY ME WIT UR BAED CAPS LOCK. The reason Waters and gilmour arent friends is simply because, they never were, they had a great working realationship which was strained/broken/whatever by Waters gradually taking control of Pink Floyd because, quite frankly as you stated he kicks ass
i never said anything about him kicking ass, however david, and roger were good friends, they went to high school and college together, and it was roger who went to david when syd was gonna leave floyd because they were great friends and they were also friends from when david joined the floyd but they werent when he left. now ive said this before but you already know it roger was an asshole he didnt give anyone in the band the credit they deserved when animals or the wall were released.
And who was the driving force behind the actual music (not lyrics) ?? That was Gilmour and Wright! Waters wrote most of the lyrics and didn't take very much part in the musicmaking.
waters wrote cmfortably numb to. who do you think that maked teh lyrics for that song, david didn't have a single clue on what he schould write as lyrics....
you could not be more wrong gilmour wrote comfortably numb during the animals tour and was going to have it put on his solo album but instead gave it to the wall album
Yes that's true but as you can hear it in the early demo of the song (1978 ) the lyrics are not the same( Waters inside ) with the final version and the solo is so much better in the final version .
You'd think these guys could get over their teen-age angst as old as they are. Come on guys reunite for a tour you really owe it to your fans. If we can forgive you, then you can forgive yourselves. I've you've taugh us anything in your songs it's that! Come on we've waited long enough.
I think Roger is manic depressive. In his manic stage, got over exscited, sack Rick Wright, disorinated Nick and David, then left. I think Roger rues the day he left PF.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think waters baby like attitude got him what he deserved ,,instead of thinking he ended pink floyd he just ended his whole money making ability,,I think he realizes his hot head got him no where!GO DAVE,NICK,RICH
Bob Geldof is a genuinely remarkable man who was instrumental in arranging the Live Aid concert for Africa in 1985 and Live 8 concert in 2005. In 1985 for the Live Aid, he managed to get all the Led Zeppelin members together on that one special day.
This concert really shows who was the heart of the band. Gilmour's voice and guitar were at their usual top form. The little bit of singing Waters did sounded tired and worn out. Waters is great bass player, but far from being the soul of the band.
Looking at Gilmour's write up in the wikipedia, I have to say, I am impressed with his dedication to various causes, when he COULD be a rich fatcat, sitting on his laurels, eh?
So how much did the concert raise. In concience and money?

I was 10 years old... long before I realized that Pink Floyd were musical innovators and the greatest band ever to grace this good earth and that ACDC are talentless moochers who have made millions off meaningless songs about sex and... yeah, more sex.
skatepark4hb 2 years ago
How old are you now then you silly little knobber,11? Think before you type something stupid.
duffpaddy00 2 years ago
Sex sells though, wait a minute you haven't had sex so...
ACDC is a great rock band and has been for quite some time. I would hardly call what they do mooching! I am a Pink Floyd fan as well so I respect your stance from a compositional standpoint but from a miniscule degree. These two groups are HUGE any way you slice it. Read Maximum Rock-N-Roll about ACDC and you will gain a new respect I'll bet.

You sounded jealous of them.
TheIsabel7 2 years ago
Oh, fuck no, I was just pointing out the absurdity of the original statement. As for my feeling, I guess I'm upset about the guys that had to give up making music, it would be nice if they got that second album deal and got all the 2nd chances and budget Pink Floyd did. Another Monks album, or Silver Apples album in the early 70s would have been really interesting. I also like giving shoutouts to obscure artists and giving prog rock fans shit,, which is kinda silly.

mcblane15 2 years ago
I guess so... also I think alot of people are right when they said that it could be the final destination of a fourty year journey known as Pink Floyd. Yeah! And like you said about honoring Richard, but honor Syd as well (guess they did that in "Wish You Were Here").
SeabeeBuilder1973 2 years ago
damn, pink floyd is bigger than each of its members bitching about anything...
so fuck all reasons for not getting together...

Waters is an asshole! He is best left out with the trash. A mediocre bassist. a decent writer, but without Gilmore, this band never works. However, Floyd without waters ain't no thing and a whole lot less drama.
keysersozay 2 years ago
No Waters is Genius, A great songwriter and composer. Yes a bit of an ass but without him Pink Floyd wouldn't be what it is today; Amazing.
jumpinpizza 2 years ago 5
Have you heard the bass in Another Brick in the Wall?
Paxr1x 2 years ago
Without Roger Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd wouldn't be what it is today -- most of the songs post Barrett that went on to be well known were about him in one form or another -- even George Roger Waters went on to admit this of The Walls major construct, as far as the movie depictation is concerned. All of them made it what it is today, musically: Barrett, Waters, Gilmour, Mason and Wright. Take one away before its time, and it's incomplete.
FatesTapestry 2 years ago
Not sure I agree with the comment about the finale. I only saw Gilmour.
However, what is true but not mentioned is that, when the group got wind of the increased sales in their albums after Live 8, they set about giving that to charity.
cbak12sg 2 years ago
Confortably was a collaboration of Roger and David; what they differed on was the delivery of the song. David wanted a more melodramatic entrance and they fought horribly to get their way.

yeah i know can't we all just get along i like watchin them in the old days like in pompeii it was like they were perfect together u know
roger n david was hott back then!!
samanthalynn612 2 years ago
well i think they were all good i mean yeah roger did wright the lyrics but i mean without the rest of the band i mean it just wouldn't be the same they all r the pink floyd and u can't replace any of them
in this vid it sounds like dave is being mean but if u think about remember back then when roger was always suin them 4 copyright n shit
i mean thats probably y he really didn't wanna do it but the concert isn't 4 roger its 4 their audience n the cause
samanthalynn612 2 years ago
I think you should stop argueing, if Roger or David "is"/"was" Pink Floyd.
The Band wouldn't exist without Roger and it wouldn't exist without Dave or anyone else.
They both (and Nick, Rick & Syd) were important for Pink Floyd...
There wouldn't be The Wall without David, there wouldn't be The Division Bell without Roger (because I agree with Pickinvint), and do you think Wish You Were here would exist withou Syd?

There are tons of references regarding Waters on The Division Bell:
Poles Apart....Lost For Words...What Do You Want From Me....Coming Back to Life...are all just loaded with Gilmour's feelings towards Waters.
Pickininvt 3 years ago
Gilmour has said these were not, in face, Waters references.
Rasputin443556 3 years ago
For years I listened to The Division Bell never having a clue how clear it was that it was David Gilmour's pouring his heart out over Roger Waters. Nearly every song describes his feelings on Waters:
HIGH HOPES: "There was a ragged band who followed in our footsteps. Running before time took our dreams away" and "Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side"
Pickininvt 3 years ago 2
Can you imagine people leaving positive comments about the amazing talent and input this group had, to output the amazing music they have? It is easy to be critical, if one really has the desire to. Just maybe if we put out the gratitude, and passionate desire to see and hear one more tour, it just might happen. We want one more album, I hear that.
How will it happen, if indeed it can? Not by putting vinegar, but honey into our comments.
It is about the group as a whole. Imagine it NOW
deladeli 3 years ago 7
well now, ya see all this bickerin'and pointless debate about who was more important than who and who played, wrote and sang what is exactly why roger 'apparently' put pressure on rick to go and then ultimately left himself, thus, tragically splitting up what was, AS A UNIT!!!,,,,an untouchable unique class act,and the 5 blokes who made up the floyd legacy are equally vital to that.. i reckon.
040469ian 3 years ago
roger and syd were the true friends in the band - soul mates from being kids at school - hence all the classic albums are heavily waters written with insanity overtones of syd - gilmours contribution is equally impressive - as the tour de force floyd albums are musically his - conceptually waters .

It's funny cause Geldof use to hate Pink Floyd and he hated being in the movie of The Wall. But who could see what would become of them.
badrubberduckie 3 years ago
Gilmour wrote a theme for his solo album in the late 70's.But they used the theme in a pink floyd song.this song is that.gilmour is a good guitar player and vocalist.By contrast Waters has awful voice and he isn't a good bassist.

i watched it live on tv (ive seen comfy numb many times live) i think bob should of been knighted just for doing this let alone all the rest of the stuff he has done. he is a hero of our time like chris martin said. floyd rule, it was a very special night.
bobgas77 3 years ago
You cant say that! Forget the wall to me floyd were at their best when they were working together. Its not about who is the best its how you put it all together and to be fair to waters he played a massive part in that

evidently not familiar with the work that embodies floyd. Obviously never saw waters in concert. WHy fight about it, or take sides. No waters, no barrett, no floyd. gilmour cant write. look at his own stuff. and look at the sold out shows waters is getting. you boar me
FRANKIEFRIPP 3 years ago
yes waters wrote almost every album and thats what i give him respect for his ability to write, my point was roger waters is the classic example of a stuck up british snob who thinks hes better than the rest, thats why they arent friends anymore because by the time of post animals, and the wall he thought he was the band, and what are you talking about gilmour cant write every album after roger kicked ass. YOU BOAR ME WITH HOW LITTLE YOU KNOW
baronacebass 3 years ago
YOU ANNOY ME WIT UR BAED CAPS LOCK. The reason Waters and gilmour arent friends is simply because, they never were, they had a great working realationship which was strained/broken/whatever by Waters gradually taking control of Pink Floyd because, quite frankly as you stated he kicks ass
f05h1zzl3 3 years ago
i never said anything about him kicking ass, however david, and roger were good friends, they went to high school and college together, and it was roger who went to david when syd was gonna leave floyd because they were great friends and they were also friends from when david joined the floyd but they werent when he left. now ive said this before but you already know it roger was an asshole he didnt give anyone in the band the credit they deserved when animals or the wall were released.
baronacebass 3 years ago 2
they were friends, but they started to hate each other like 1 year before they made the wall
thejourneyman123 3 years ago
Waters wrote almost every album????
And who was the driving force behind the actual music (not lyrics) ?? That was Gilmour and Wright! Waters wrote most of the lyrics and didn't take very much part in the musicmaking.
Crapgame123 3 years ago 2
waters wrote cmfortably numb to. who do you think that maked teh lyrics for that song, david didn't have a single clue on what he schould write as lyrics....
thejourneyman123 3 years ago
you could not be more wrong gilmour wrote comfortably numb during the animals tour and was going to have it put on his solo album but instead gave it to the wall album
baronacebass 3 years ago
gilmour wrote the tabs, waters, the lyrics, google it....
thejourneyman123 3 years ago
yeah but the music in the track is the thing that makes it such a pleasure to listen to.

No, david gilmour wrote comfortably numb
when he wanted to launch a solo album but preferred to produce this song with the band.
joaoyoutuve 2 years ago
Yes that's true but as you can hear it in the early demo of the song (1978 ) the lyrics are not the same( Waters inside ) with the final version and the solo is so much better in the final version .

Traditional arguments about who is/was the best, or who is/was the heart of PF is silly.
Ametrida 3 years ago 2
I think Roger is manic depressive. In his manic stage, got over exscited, sack Rick Wright, disorinated Nick and David, then left. I think Roger rues the day he left PF.
