  • So how much did the concert raise. In concience and money?

  • @inlovewithcacao u retarded bro?

  • @Cgrrp, AC/DC are my favourite band, so this will be a tad bias, but I think AC/DC are better. Then again, you can't exactly compare these two bands; they're just too different. Music is open to interpretation anyway. Except the crappy mainstream stuff.

  • Geldof used to hate pink floyd according to his first autobiography.

What made him change his mind?

  • @paradigm333i4 making the Pink personage on the film pink floyd the wall

  • this is upsetting to know that gilmore will probably never wanna work without rick wright.but i can understand that rick is his bro.but to play with waters again,i SERIOUSLY doubt it.i have read alot on the band, and it seems that roger is pretty much an egotistical musician, but a great one for sure!

  • well done for gettin all the gang back on stage geldof they are all fkn legends love there music and yours tae cheers

  • One of the greatest epic moments in rock history !!! Pink Floyd my favorite band ever !!

  • been listening since 1973,seen them in 1994 atlanta.they are without question the best studio and live show ever....there is no comparison with any band.i hate the fact that its over after they were there all those years.

  • Wish They Were Here.

  • fucking clip this is a plain advertisement! what will be the fate of youtube music lovers if this kind of fucking clip is always here...we will definitely avoid this kind of stuff!!!

  • Rogers fired Wright in 79, that was it for Gilmour. Gilmour and Wright never talk publicly about it but I'm sure that will never be forgotten.

  • @uberalles2

Yes exactly! Who the heck does Roger think he is? Who ever heard of a bass player firing the founding superstar keyboard player of a mega band. I realize Roger did a lot of the writing, and frankly, Sid Barrett is way over hyped, and all of the really great Floyd came after he was gone. The earliest Floyd is noise that could bore even a tripper. That said, the Pulse concert is fantastic and Roger's absence is surprising un-missed.

  • wow this is the perfect ending..................DARJEELING

  • finally geldofs africa passion had one real good side effectLOL

  • If Sir Bob Geldof ever becomes a candidate for Sainthood, I think this should count as one of his two miracles..... :)

  • @idole8 Ha ha! No doubt.

  • wish i could see them!!!

  • giant egos and huge fortunes aside, get together for 20 minutes, oh yeah that's big of them. i hate rock stars, they can all go eat a bowl of shit.

  • Whan they started to hate eachother and why?

  • WHEN I SAW THIS FIR THE FIRST TIME... I CRIED.

KNOWING HOW ROGER'S "WALL AND CUT" SPLIT THE BAND, I AM GRATEFUL TO SEE THE FOUR PLAY BEFORE ROGER (SYD) AND RICHARD LEFT.

GOD BLESS'EM. WE ARE ONLY HUMAN, AND WE WON'T LIVE FOREVER, SO LETS PUT OUR DIFFERENCE AWAY, AND ROCK...

BY THE WAY, IF YOU WANT TO SEE A VIDEO OF ALL FIVE PLAYING, LOOK UP "PAINT BOX"

  • Live 8 needs to be done again. It wasnt enough

  • Quién fue el estúpido que comparó a Pink Floyd con AC/DC???

Who was the stupid who compared Pink Floyd and AC/DC???

  • Thank you Bob!!!

  • okay. Okay what? okay i'll do your f****** show!"

  • Good Night and God, Goddess bless you Syd and Rick

  • I'll say it, again; All the contemporary masters are revered and must not be compared to each other, because it takes away from the love we have for each and every one of them...

  • i can't believe that david gilmour didn't want to do the show. i would of thought that roger would be the most anal about it

  • i heard that roger only wanted to do songs from The Final Cut.

  • @chrismarshall1950 Thats not true.

  • Crud. It's not "Africa's debt". It's criminals in fancy suits stealing from you and me. But hey, enjoy the tunes while they kill your country.

  • Cmon Geldof, why do you think Roger didn't have his number, they hadn't spoken for 25 years. lol

  • What happened between them that would cause the not to talk for 25 years ?

  • I am not sure but they hadn't talked since the band did the last tour , the Wall Tour. They were fighting alot about the creative differences of the band.

  • Creative differences ? They are and were one of the most signified creative bands ever, not mention one of the best bands ever !!!!!

  • Ok they just couldn't get past Rogers big ego. lol

  • Thats what I thought !!!!! Lol

  • @Tom6093 Saying 'ego' is writing off the dynamics, I suggest reading Nick Mason's book, it's vast, and very entertaining. Inside Out. I also think Dave is just very adament about not brushing aside the way everyone was treated up to the Final Cut sessions, where the animosity overshadowed anything prior

  • Thank you Geldof. For playing Pink, for always helping Live 8 and for this act in particular.

  • I find it ironic that the man who said he didn't want to star in the movie version of "The Wall" because he said "Pink Floyd is crap!", would be the one who would succeed in reuniting them.

  • @Craig496 it's also goes to show in both cases that with time, people are capable of changing their minds and views. As of 2011, Gilmour and Waters are good friends again.

  • Pink Floyd had an album called "Meddle"!

  • I have a funny feeling Live 8 was just the excuse they needed to get back together as a band. Neither wanted to give in and this cause was just the ticket. Either way, COOL!

  • can i have rogers number geldof :-p

  • Thank you, Bob...and thank you Dave and Roger for putting your differences aside and allowing those of us who never were able to see all of you perform together in our lives, and never thought we would, that chance at Live 8. It would be the last moment of all of you on stage we would ever see. Thank you very, very, much.

  • Pink Floyd wrote "Dogs".

  • thanks for keeping up to date with their 1977 album...

  • Can I suggest that nothing would have happened if Mr Barrett hadn't been around.

Waters wouldn't have met him, Waters may have met Mason and Wright, they may have started a band...

Syd started it all. He was your 3 minute hero getting out for one reason or another and getting on with real life..

  • Waters and Mason were playing together BEFORE Wright joined them...and as for getting on with his real life, sorry to disabuse you of that notion as well

  • I'm aware that Waters and Mason were playing together before Wright came along, I was merely pointing out that Syd Barratt started it all with Waters. Syd was the major sonwriter and influence on their earliest tracks. Without him nothing would have happened.

And by getting on with his real life h etook too much, didn't like the commercial way the band were gong, didn't really want a record contract, wanted it all to be free-forming, felt hemmed in by his band mates and the record company.

  • Syd lived in the same area, they all met of course, it wasn't a major stretch starting out young like they did. Rick Wright self described "jazzo" as he put it, the Jazz and free form were a large part of what made Floyd tackle new musical ground. Without Syd, the band had more cohesion, with him, it would have stalled momentum

  • Syd lost his marbles! He lived with his mother from then on....

  • Well aware of that Rufus. Bet he made his mum a damm fine cup of tea on the finest mis matched china crockery..

  • Waters was!! Floyd, The heart of the band left when he did, Without him there their is no Floyd just more the Dave Gilmour Band, a good band but not Floyd...

  • He wrote nearly every album they done he told everyone else what to play most of the time he made floyd what they were he was Pink Floyd, none of the overs would have come to much without him, maybe Gilmour and Write might have got in to prog rock band or something but not much else. mason was ok but no cosy powl, together they were god of rock but with out Waters they would have been long forgotten...

  • who gives a shit they are both a shedload better than all the dross trotted out as rock music these days

  • AC/DC blows! Goddamned Aussie band that has just re-written the same song for the past however many years, with his horrible voice that makes him sound like he's trying to shit. Angus makes that band, and even HIS riffs all sound the same. They should have called it a day when Bon died... period. Floyd maintains their sound, while... my god... writing DIFFERENT songs. And why the hell does every single Australian band sound like AC/DC?

  • Comment removed

  • @Cgrrp anyone who would compare AC/DC to Pink Floyd is a lunatic, seeing as how AC/DC is a pile of shit and Pink Floyd is the music of the gods

  • AC DC plays an entirely different genre from Floyd. Floyd plays dark brooding acid rock. ACDC plays hard rock with an old time rock and roll emphasis and a metallic tone. Apples and Oranges. I happen to prefer acid rock to old time rock and roll, but it is a matter of taste not quality.

  • @Cgrrp well... I prefer Pink Floyd, AC/DC sounds good as hell, but you can't compare those two bands becouse of the music difference, hard rock vs Pink Floyd (I don't know how to name that type of music)

  • @Cgrrp yeah Floyd are another level up on top of AC/DC, who themselves are still another level or two up from most of the rest of the worlds band.

  • Floyd! Get back together!

  • Floyd is no more. Rick's dead.

  • I know. I meant, if they should reunite. Rick is irreplaceable and it seems the end but you never can tell. Even Zeppelin got back together for one night. Who will they hire for keyboards? It's up to them.

  • Ray Manzerik of the Doors. However, just their fine side musicians they always use. There's those who work with Rog and those who work with Dave, and there's conflict between them, I think. There is certainly conflict in the Eagles, hense Don Felder getting the boot

  • Check out the photos of the great patriot Roger Waters spray painting "We Don't Need No Thought Control" on the Israeli WALL that is being used to steal yet more from other peoples by these power freaks who own a hundred times more than they produce.

  • bob geldoff is a fucking arsehole

  • thank you bob but thank gilmour he's the bigger man for doing it thanks to you all

  • "Bigger man"?? Are you KIDDING ME?? Gilmour and Waters are the biggest f*cking babies! I mean, how self-important do you have to think you are to make such a big deal about getting a band together for one CHARITY gig to help the world? If I were Geldoff, I would've told Waters and Gilmour to f*ck off and that I don't need to kiss their bloated, pompous asses!

  • There wasn't any big deal with them. They were asked to play together and they did it.

They weren't looking for self promotion. It was a good chanceto play together again. I'm glad the accepted, at least one last time.

  • Do you even know why the got seperated? I hope you do realise that Roger waters practicly own the rights of every track (almost) pink floyd ever produced. Roger waters is an arsh, not gilmore (that got assfucked) by roger back then. In the form of lawsuits..

I find it respectable what Gilmore did, because he did not do this for roger..or mason (drums) or rick or whatever pink floyd was. He did this for the cause live8 stand for.

So yah pompous asses indeed...dont think so.

  • Don't thank Bob, or Dave. IT was Roger who Called Dave to ask him to put aside their differences so they could do this show.

  • Geldof even says Dave was going to say no, he said yes to Roger's request.

  • @kayjosh2009 If was dave would i do it ? after all these years roger still wanting to call the shots he left pink floyd deprieved the fans and the band of his talent

  • I know what you mean but I think they all wanted to see how it would work out if they did do the one off. I agree that Pink Floyd would have been much better off had Roger not tried to control every aspect of the band. It was still so nice to see them do this show, and Geldof did get the wheels in motion, so a big cheers to him.

  • And even though Roger was controlling he did really Call Dave and convince him to do the show. just type in live 8 rehearsals and you can see it there about Roger making the call.

  • @kayjosh2009 I no what you mean it was so good to see them all together again thanks to bob and all members of floyd for amazing memory

  • what about a gilmour/waters album???

  • I reckon that pigs will fly before that ever happens!

  • Brilliant.

  • Thank You Bob.

  • the best ever !!!!1

  • One of the greatest groups ever!

  • pink floyd pues nadamas agregar k wright we will miss you!!!! i never never land!!!

  • can you help me?

  • i can imagine dave being that way with bob

  • somebody needs anger management

  • Rogers is that one guy in the group that's a complete dick, but is the main contributor. But right now I'm just wishing I wasn't two years old when PULSE was happening. =/

  • i was a fetus

  • im upset that i hadnt even been thought of yet.

  • the very last chance to see them, and i missed it... Will I ever be happy?

  • I was 10 years old... long before I realized that Pink Floyd were musical innovators and the greatest band ever to grace this good earth and that ACDC are talentless moochers who have made millions off meaningless songs about sex and... yeah, more sex.

  • How old are you now then you silly little knobber,11? Think before you type something stupid.

  • Sex sells though, wait a minute you haven't had sex so...

ACDC is a great rock band and has been for quite some time. I would hardly call what they do mooching! I am a Pink Floyd fan as well so I respect your stance from a compositional standpoint but from a miniscule degree. These two groups are HUGE any way you slice it. Read Maximum Rock-N-Roll about ACDC and you will gain a new respect I'll bet.

  • You sounded jealous of them.

  • Oh, fuck no, I was just pointing out the absurdity of the original statement. As for my feeling, I guess I'm upset about the guys that had to give up making music, it would be nice if they got that second album deal and got all the 2nd chances and budget Pink Floyd did. Another Monks album, or Silver Apples album in the early 70s would have been really interesting. I also like giving shoutouts to obscure artists and giving prog rock fans shit,, which is kinda silly.

  • Thank you Sir Bob Geldof=)

  • please one more concert with them Sir Geldof ;)

  • I don't think it will happen without Richard...

  • I know :( but they can make a concert for Rick´s tribute

  • I guess so... also I think alot of people are right when they said that it could be the final destination of a fourty year journey known as Pink Floyd. Yeah! And like you said about honoring Richard, but honor Syd as well (guess they did that in "Wish You Were Here").

  • damn, pink floyd is bigger than each of its members bitching about anything...

so fuck all reasons for not getting together...

and fuck everyone who think any part of em has more credit than other, this was blissful and hear 'em live give me the chills...

  • No Waters is Genius, A great songwriter and composer. Yes a bit of an ass but without him Pink Floyd wouldn't be what it is today; Amazing.

  • Have you heard the bass in Another Brick in the Wall?

  • Without Roger Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd wouldn't be what it is today -- most of the songs post Barrett that went on to be well known were about him in one form or another -- even George Roger Waters went on to admit this of The Walls major construct, as far as the movie depictation is concerned. All of them made it what it is today, musically: Barrett, Waters, Gilmour, Mason and Wright. Take one away before its time, and it's incomplete.

  • Not sure I agree with the comment about the finale. I only saw Gilmour.

However, what is true but not mentioned is that, when the group got wind of the increased sales in their albums after Live 8, they set about giving that to charity.

  • Confortably was a collaboration of Roger and David; what they differed on was the delivery of the song. David wanted a more melodramatic entrance and they fought horribly to get their way.

  • It was upside down due to youtube doing an April fools joke :)

  • would have been great if it wasn't UPSIDE DOWN......cheers

  • I have spent so much money on Pink Floyd bootleg cd's, My wife wants to kill me, I can't afford anything nice anymore. (check out my collection through my name) I wish they would reunite to help me out of my debt, as well as my addiction to ambien,

  • With loss of Richard Wright in September 2008, Live 8 was the last time we saw Pink Floyd performing together. THANKS BOB..

  • yeah i know can't we all just get along i like watchin them in the old days like in pompeii it was like they were perfect together u know

roger n david was hott back then!!

  • well i think they were all good i mean yeah roger did wright the lyrics but i mean without the rest of the band i mean it just wouldn't be the same they all r the pink floyd and u can't replace any of them

in this vid it sounds like dave is being mean but if u think about remember back then when roger was always suin them 4 copyright n shit

i mean thats probably y he really didn't wanna do it but the concert isn't 4 roger its 4 their audience n the cause

  • I think you should stop argueing, if Roger or David "is"/"was" Pink Floyd.

The Band wouldn't exist without Roger and it wouldn't exist without Dave or anyone else.

They both (and Nick, Rick & Syd) were important for Pink Floyd...

There wouldn't be The Wall without David, there wouldn't be The Division Bell without Roger (because I agree with Pickinvint), and do you think Wish You Were here would exist withou Syd?

  • exactly. I hope this will end this argument...

  • Bob your AWESOME. Let's get them to tour in 09 or 10.

  • you're

  • So you thought you might like to go to the show =))))

  • Cliss de Walvaire.

May the future be prompt into reunions.

Lasting is a myth. Being now is a present.

Will THEY do "humanity" that gift ?

    Al Biss

  • BoomTown Rat Thanks or should I say PINK?

  • Good on ye Bob.

  • There are tons of references regarding Waters on The Division Bell:

Poles Apart....Lost For Words...What Do You Want From Me....Coming Back to Life...are all just loaded with Gilmour's feelings towards Waters.

  • Gilmour has said these were not, in face, Waters references.

  • For years I listened to The Division Bell never having a clue how clear it was that it was David Gilmour's pouring his heart out over Roger Waters. Nearly every song describes his feelings on Waters:

HIGH HOPES: "There was a ragged band who followed in our footsteps. Running before time took our dreams away" and "Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us

To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side"

  • Can you imagine people leaving positive comments about the amazing talent and input this group had, to output the amazing music they have? It is easy to be critical, if one really has the desire to. Just maybe if we put out the gratitude, and passionate desire to see and hear one more tour, it just might happen. We want one more album, I hear that.

How will it happen, if indeed it can? Not by putting vinegar, but honey into our comments.

It is about the group as a whole. Imagine it NOW

  • well now, ya see all this bickerin'and pointless debate about who was more important than who and who played, wrote and sang what is exactly why roger 'apparently' put pressure on rick to go and then ultimately left himself, thus, tragically splitting up what was, AS A UNIT!!!,,,,an untouchable unique class act,and the 5 blokes who made up the floyd legacy are equally vital to that.. i reckon.

  • roger and syd were the true friends in the band - soul mates from being kids at school - hence all the classic albums are heavily waters written with insanity overtones of syd - gilmours contribution is equally impressive - as the tour de force floyd albums are musically his - conceptually waters .

  • R.I.P. RICHARD WRIGHT

  • It's funny cause Geldof use to hate Pink Floyd and he hated being in the movie of The Wall. But who could see what would become of them.

  • Gilmour wrote a theme for his solo album in the late 70's.But they used the theme in a pink floyd song.this song is that.gilmour is a good guitar player and vocalist.By contrast Waters has awful voice and he isn't a good bassist.

  • Good lyric writer though ;)

  • yeah well gilmour is floyd

  • Twas a good show though, all of them, together again.

  • Haha sounds like Gilmour didn't want to do it at all! But they all seemed to have fun on stage.

  • i watched it live on tv (ive seen comfy numb many times live) i think bob should of been knighted just for doing this let alone all the rest of the stuff he has done. he is a hero of our time like chris martin said. floyd rule, it was a very special night.

  • You cant say that! Forget the wall to me floyd were at their best when they were working together. Its not about who is the best its how you put it all together and to be fair to waters he played a massive part in that

  • roger waters can suck my asshole gilmour kicks his ass waters may have wrote the wall but gilmour wrote its best known song

  • which is?

  • comfortably numb

  • evidently not familiar with the work that embodies floyd. Obviously never saw waters in concert. WHy fight about it, or take sides. No waters, no barrett, no floyd. gilmour cant write. look at his own stuff. and look at the sold out shows waters is getting. you boar me

  • yes waters wrote almost every album and thats what i give him respect for his ability to write, my point was roger waters is the classic example of a stuck up british snob who thinks hes better than the rest, thats why they arent friends anymore because by the time of post animals, and the wall he thought he was the band, and what are you talking about gilmour cant write every album after roger kicked ass. YOU BOAR ME WITH HOW LITTLE YOU KNOW

  • YOU ANNOY ME WIT UR BAED CAPS LOCK. The reason Waters and gilmour arent friends is simply because, they never were, they had a great working realationship which was strained/broken/whatever by Waters gradually taking control of Pink Floyd because, quite frankly as you stated he kicks ass

  • i never said anything about him kicking ass, however david, and roger were good friends, they went to high school and college together, and it was roger who went to david when syd was gonna leave floyd because they were great friends and they were also friends from when david joined the floyd but they werent when he left. now ive said this before but you already know it roger was an asshole he didnt give anyone in the band the credit they deserved when animals or the wall were released.

  • they were friends, but they started to hate each other like 1 year before they made the wall

  • Waters wrote almost every album????

And who was the driving force behind the actual music (not lyrics) ?? That was Gilmour and Wright! Waters wrote most of the lyrics and didn't take very much part in the musicmaking.

  • waters wrote cmfortably numb to. who do you think that maked teh lyrics for that song, david didn't have a single clue on what he schould write as lyrics....

  • you could not be more wrong gilmour wrote comfortably numb during the animals tour and was going to have it put on his solo album but instead gave it to the wall album

  • gilmour wrote the tabs, waters, the lyrics, google it....

  • yeah but the music in the track is the thing that makes it such a pleasure to listen to.

  • The tabs? LOL Maybe he practiced the "tabs" at Guitar Center before they recorded them too. LMFAO

  • WAIT THEY BOTH WROTE COMFORTABLY NUMB

  • No, david gilmour wrote comfortably numb

when he wanted to launch a solo album but preferred to produce this song with the band.

  • Yes that's true but as you can hear it in the early demo of the song (1978 ) the lyrics are not the same( Waters inside ) with the final version and the solo is so much better in the final version .

  • right

  • Dave Wrote the Music to the song. Roger wrote the Lyrics.

  • You'd think these guys could get over their teen-age angst as old as they are. Come on guys reunite for a tour you really owe it to your fans. If we can forgive you, then you can forgive yourselves. I've you've taugh us anything in your songs it's that! Come on we've waited long enough.

  • so so true wolfy101 :-)

  • Traditional arguments about who is/was the best, or who is/was the heart of PF is silly.

  • I think Roger is manic depressive. In his manic stage, got over exscited, sack Rick Wright, disorinated Nick and David, then left. I think Roger rues the day he left PF.

  • Bob Geldof is a genuinely remarkable man who was instrumental in arranging the Live Aid concert for Africa in 1985 and Live 8 concert in 2005. In 1985 for the Live Aid, he managed to get all the Led Zeppelin members together on that one special day.

  • I was there. Pink Floyd Forever.

  • I almost love Dave's stubborness. Almost. :))

  • ooh 1 down for u for dissing barrett (you both mispelled barrett dumbasses)

  • This concert really shows who was the heart of the band. Gilmour's voice and guitar were at their usual top form. The little bit of singing Waters did sounded tired and worn out. Waters is great bass player, but far from being the soul of the band.

  • Dont agree with you. Remeber who wrote all the lyrics, who wrote The Wall...

  • sorry toulouseletrec. one thumb down. you forgat barett.

  • Looking at Gilmour's write up in the wikipedia, I have to say, I am impressed with his dedication to various causes, when he COULD be a rich fatcat, sitting on his laurels, eh?

  • Gilmour is brilliant. World-class lead guitarist.

  • yes i agree Gilmour is a brilliant guitarist but he is a stubborn old man.

  • Granted!!!
