  • in After Effects instead of masking every frame of your character, there is what we call as motion tracking, it eases everything out and use pixel detection to track the masked motion :D

  • Now how do you get the mask to move around over another video? Like if I want to make someone look as though they are holding something and swinging it around even though in the actual video, they are just moving their hand?

  • Where did you get the effect??? I use sony vegas movie studio platinum 9

  • What anime is that guy from?

  • @Asychlyke Special A, his name is Kei.

  • @jcelbob Thanks. xD I kind of figured it out before but thanks anyway.

  • Can i ask which sony vegas you use?

  • @DestinyBell864 It's Kei Takishima from Special A.

  • masking is such a bitch. i dont even bother anymore.

  • why did you put some 'allowance' on the top of the hair? there is nothing to mask there, is it necessary?

  • I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio but I can't find the little pen too. Is it only in certain versions or to you have to physically add it on to the pan/crop menu?

  • @SaweeJoy Well, I figured it out and I'm not happy. The newer software doesn't have the pen tool. Imagine that! Sony gives us something good and then they have to go and mess it all up!

  • thanks this help so much

  • @pokegirl4581 but i dont get what to do when ur done masking it can u explain it to me

  • This might sound retarded but wouldnt it be easier if when you snapshotted each frame the person moves, instead of masking it, open that snapshot with photoshop and using magic wand tool

  • @SkyFlyZz

maybe... you'd still have to go through the hassle of saving each frame individually, adding them all in at the right framerate and having some sort of way of green-screening them to automask themselves on a certain color... it's alot of work either way you do it

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was so helpful.like you have no idea.

  • OMG! thabk you SOOOOO much! you have just got a sub!

  • whats the music pls repy!!

  • hey how do yhu do the background in 0:0 - 0:05 ? that checkered thing ?

  • @fantagelover614 it's an option in media generator titled "checkerboard"

  • @EpicSensei oh ok. thx :) how do yhu like rotate it and move and stuff. but thx

  • @EpicSensei lolol

  • Okay so.. How do i move the object i masked over? It stays in the middle and for some reason i can't figure the most easiest thing out?! So how do i do so?.. I try to move it to the corner were i need it would help alot. If you knew how to tell me =p

  • You mean when you already mask it? Well, you can use the Event Pan/crop and move the masked clip clicking the "Position" item and that's all :D

  • Can you direct me to a video that involves masking in a Vegas Studio HD Platinum?

  • Manga, Anime!!!! we're both anime lovahs!!! oh yeah!! Nice vid!!!! YOU ROCK!

  • @pokemonz29 haha thank you~ ;U;

  • how long do you need for this :p?

  • @XxNarutoAmvMakerxX Depends on how long it takes for you to mask. For me, depending on the intricacy of the item, I can mask a still object in anywhere from 1-3 minutes. But for moving abjects, it takes me anywhere from 10-30 minutes, based on the number of frames. Sometimes if your masking something really intense, like a fight scene, it can take you an hour or two. It takes dedication to mask anime.

  • @EpicSensei 1:39 why is their a big gap between the keyframs?

  • Ok this can be done to different backgrounds right?

  • If you mean that after you mask, you can put different BGs, you are right.

  • @avatarocks ? Not quite sure what you're asking.... but I belive so.

  • when I mask movement, it's always a frame behind. Even though I masked the right frame where I supposed to. I was once told how to fix the problem, but I don't remember what I was supposed to do now. I know that the FR is supposed to be the same for both the video and in the Vegas properties.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to fix the lag?

  • hey wich anime was that charater from, he looks hot *_*

  • haha XD It's from an amazing anime!! He's from Special A

  • @EpicSensei i have herd of it,even a friend of mine recomended to me,i'm so going to watch it, thank u very much :)

  • Your welcome ^-^

  • Well, I tried this but i got stucked in a problem. I need to mask in the same frame 2 times, and I've tried that, but the little hole in the picture won't turn black, so everything behind the character is black exept the little hole, (inside her arm). Pls help!! I don't know what to do, hope you understood my unclearly description.

  • Ok! I understand what are you asking for (It was a problem for me too long time ago).

First, mask the character (or wherever you are masking on), then mask the little hole and where it says 'Mode' put 'Negative'. That's all! (But always mask the holes AFTER masking the character, if you don't it won't turn black)

I hope it was the answer you were looking for.

  • @EpicSensei YES! thank you, you saved my life! thank you so mutch! :)

  • Your welcome :D

  • @EpicSensei ありがとう!

  • How much does this cost?

  • @ChokoAi around $500 i'm afraid.

  • @EpicSensei Really oh wow, is there a cheaper one? Do you kno?

  • @ChokoAi you can always search around the internet. but i doubt you'll find anything below $500. of course, there are OTHER MEANS of getting things....... if you know what i mean. ;)

  • @EpicSensei Ha ha ok thanks for every thing :D

  • How Do you do the moving checkered back round in the begining?

  • Sorry for the late reply. First, you go to 'media generators', click in 'checker board' and choose the one you like the most (you can change the colours and everything).

Then, open 'event pan/crop', click on the spot, zoom it, go to another second on the time line and move it again. After that, the BG will move. (If you didn't understand something, ask me ;D )

  • best tutorial so far on moving masking ! Thanks alot! subbed

  • @MrGreenPillow glad you liked it. thank you! :)

  • What version of sony vegas do you have???? I cant see the mask in the event pan/crop D:

  • @vampiremagetsuki you have to have the pro version. vegas pro 10 came out recently and it has the masking ability.

  • @HezekiahLittlejohn Oh... thanks :D

  • you must have SV 9.0, do you?

we usually use Sony Vegas 8.0, try with it, in my opinion it's better XD

  • is there a shortcut for zooming in on the subject? besides changing the x and y positions? (a shortcut that actually uses the zoom tool)

  • sorry for the late reply... well, if you don't want to change the x and y positions, you can make as I do: I click on the icon she pressed in 1:33 and move it, but then I have to click again in the other icon and start it where I left it (do you understand?? O.o I'm bad at explaining)

  • which version of sony vegas do you have? cause mine doesn't mave a place to mask anything.

  • we've got Sony Vegas 8.0, sorry for the late reply

  • ....You are...EPIC! Thank you So much! *subs*

  • fucking sexy :) thanks

  • good tutorial! <33

    thanks! :)

  • omg I fond another tutorial for masking that showed an easyer way by just moving the dot thingys but for me the dot thingy won't move to I went to see if their was another way and well I was really hopeing this wasn't gonna be the answer Dx

  • @NekoSayuUchiha moving the dots is an option, but for me it's faster just to remask the whole thing. but you should use whatever method is best for you.

  • Thank youu ! :D .

  • Thanks for this tutorial yours was the shortest and clearest I've seen- I've been looking everywhere! Cool music too ;D

  • @TheOnlyShauna thanks!

  • thank you, im subscribing, plz sub me back plz!!

  • do you have to hace sony vegas if so is it free cause im not paying

  • @fisherwomen1515 well, it's not for free, it's around $500.....but there are WAYS to get it....... you know, OTHER METHODS........ can't say more than that though.

  • thank you.. it thought that's how you do it, does take a while though

  • you have to be kidding me and tell me if someone wants to make a mask amv how long will he have to do it ? let me guess maybe 10 years ?

  • @FadingxAMVmakerxx after a while ot gets faster. i can mask one frame in around a minute minute. but to do a whole sequence takes me (depending on the lenth of the clip) around 30 minutes.

  • wht do u do after you've cut ur character out?

  • @purplemoshiTNHYY5 whatever you want.

  • im too lazy to mask every fram XD!!!

  • I was AFRAID this was going to be the only solution... -_-"

  • @Thekhluver it's a scary notion. and it does take a while. but usually the results are worth the effort. btw, i've added a shortcut in masking to the description. you should check it out. it'll usually cut your workload in have if the circumstances allow it.

  • @Thekhluver lol :'D

  • Yeah it's pretty cool OMG i love the song it's like the Song of EpicSensei I hate masking each movement is thought -_-

  • @lKagomeHigurashi me too! Dx that's why you'll NEVER see me masking anime -lazy- but there is a cheat. in anime usually (because of the laziness of the animators) a character moving is usually a repeat in motions. like if they're talking or running, the animatores will draw like 6 different movements of the action, and then put those in a loop.

  • @SakuNaru94 so if you just mask the first 6 then you can copy your other maskings on the timeline and paste them in the matching spot. (6 is just a hypothetical number, btw). the last moving item i masked was the sidewview of a girl talking. her mouth only moved in 4 different positions, but they were looped. so i just masked the first 4 movements then copied and pasted the rest. make sense?

  • lol XDD it's so annoying masking x3 but I like masking when the character isn't moving -u- (but it's better when they are moving... so see in my 'Perfect Fegalicious' Beta and you'll realize that I masked lots of moving things and they weren't repeat T.T)

  • @maru30000 yeah, you can't use repeat when they're moving across the screen. Dx so masking moving objects is really tedious. which is why even tho i know how i'll never do it. unless i'm doing a video i'm really dedicated too..... which is unlikely. x3

  • lol XDD you're lazier than me -u-

  • @maru30000 that's right bitches. 8D imma lazy bitch and not afraid to admit it!
