Was Plato really a totalitarian socialist? Were his philosopher kings Mao, Musilini, Stalin, Hitler, Karl Marx, etc . . .? He seems to be elitist and look down on the people as being to uneducated to govern their own lives.
@ToxicOdiousOne yep you are right.. that's where he hit's because he was one of them.. "who could not lived an educated life", he just chosed the way called studying.. &
by the way study is a better announcment then working..
@ToxicOdiousOne Plato saw people as needing to fulfill there proper function and roles, and when they did this we had a society that was flowing in harmony. His Philosopher King wasn't a Dictator per say but a Man that was totally refined morally and intellectually to the point he could lead a nation to the best course possible. He believed Democracy naturally lead to oligarchy's. I think were sorta seeing that now in some sense.
this is sum good sh1t i havent seen this 1 yet. i spent a lot of time thinken about this sh1t. i didnt know there were already established thingieies called reason logic and philosophy that covered that things. lol.
@StoicSoul i just read the reply (9 months ago it says lol). I was referring to {society} "labeling people can't and won't work." not any given one person. When i type crap on the internet i mean one thing then type in something that means another.
I think this society (in the video, not referring to today's) would fail or succeed based off of morals more so then how well it is governed.
the funny thing is that couple hundred years later this question is answered by Jesus, No one is good enough to be called a good person, we are all sinners and therefore we should all be punish for our flaws, ( Hell) but thats why God came to earth to save us all and die instead of us, and once we understand this sacrifice.. we will begin a new meaningful life.. =)
That same spin is being rammed down us now, And before.
"we are all sinners and therefore we should all be punish for our flaws" then this: "but thats why God came to earth to save us all and die instead of us, and once we understand this sacrifice.. we will begin a new meaningful life"
Socrates is the classic smartass....always willing to rebutt an argument with clear cut logic, but never giving a clear and concise definition, which could be proven wrong in time.
It seems he did enjoy his intellectual superiority but that does not change the fact that he always believed or preached the same thing. He believed in virtue, defending and projecting it at all times. He also used these debates as a means of self growth, I'd hardly consider him a smart ass, especially when the country you live borrowed some of its main concepts from him or Plato.

You can label everything else in life, but people are exempt? Explain your logic (or admit you have none).
