At this point, Kenpachi is epic enough without his Zanpakuto's powers, and him not having Bankai is what truly sets him apart from the other Captains. I highly doubt we will ever see him access the full power of his sword.

what i understand from the ichigo vs. kenpachi episode is that kenpachi's shikai is always released because it cannot be suppressed...thus is it right to assume that the appearance of his current sword is actually his shikai? (a cosmetic change to the hilt and handle only means he relies more on his own power more than the power of his zanpakuto is what makes him kenpachi)

Think about it. Kenpachi says "Bankai" and another Kenpachi appears. The two Kenpachi's start having an epic battle royale, and the enemy dies in the crossfire.

A good villain would for example be Takasugi from Gintama,hell,he's not overpowered,we've only seen him live for 8 episodes in total and yet he's top 4 in charts and he's THAT awesome...
