Boxing takes more skill in some ways since you can ONLY use your hands. That's your only option. While in MMA you can mix and match and use whatever to a certain degree which also takes a vast amount of skill.

Yes but boxing is in a league of it's own the sport of punching and being able to block punches will always require specific skills from the fighter in order to win, MMA just requires you to do more than just punching and blocking but that doesn't make it a better sport.
Boxing is fast paced and at least there is no wrestling in it to slow the pace of the match.
@DSAoftheSS But on the other hand striking with your hands while moving with your legs is the most complex aspect of fighting, it's almost a fine art compared to grappling and wrestling which are pretty easy to pick up because they are more natural. Frank Shamrock put it best - grappling is organic but boxing is the most efficient way to hurt somebody but it also requires you to retrain your brain and body.

If you want to learn effective self defense personally I would recommend Krav Maga; or kenpo/kempo over both sports. You can't even compare real combat self defense to a sport, if you get jumped in real life there are no rules. I also disagree boxing will always make more money, if trends remain as they are now they won't.

Boxer's are not well rounded fighters which should be common knowledge by now, they have a strikers chance in MMA but without solid take down defense and ability to check kicks, boxer's can easily be countered with proper training in MMA. Anyone that thought the boxer was going to win even vs a 46 year old mma fighter that is a grappling legend should have their head examined.

Boxing takes more skill in some ways since you can ONLY use your hands. That's your only option. While in MMA you can mix and match and use whatever to a certain degree which also takes a vast amount of skill.

Boxing is not a true form of fighting. And Jose aldo would knock out manny and mayweather with a head kick. Mma is boxing, muay thai, kickboxing, karate, sambo, tae kwon do, jeet kune do, and etc. That's just some striking forms. The form of boxing stayed in place the day it was formed by men. Mma will forever grow because there is no definite way how to fight but mma is the closing thing to achieve true fighting skills, in and out of any ring.

Who really deserves more money, the sport of punching with big gloves or the sport of fighting? Boxers are allowed to take more punishment given there ability to beat the standing 8 count as in K-1 but K-1 fighters make far less and are in even more danger then a boxer. Ray Mercer from his Inside MMA appearance said training he did for MMA made boxing look easy. Anderson Silva would pillage & destroy the crown jewel of boxing in a real fight, just because you box doesn't mean you can fight.

boxing takes more skill to master, it's one aspect of fighting so the fight is more of a science, the better fighter usually wins unless theres a huge knock out punch which doesn't happen all the time but on occassions, in mma however there are all aspects of fighting, you aren't great at one thing but you're good at everything so i think they're operating on a lower skill level which is why there are so few fighters that are undefeated! with so much 2 worry about u get caught!

how the fuck does mma own boxing? since when is boxing dying? mma has a history of dying, pride, elite xc, ufc almost at one point before dana took over, boxing doesnt even worry about mma, they're nothing moneywise and when it comes to fans, boxing is way more popular. as far as whats better? it comes down to how good you are at your game, there's plenty of mma guys that say ill takedown a boxer, ground and pound, etc, then they miss the takedown and get knocked out.

Yes but boxing is in a league of it's own the sport of punching and being able to block punches will always require specific skills from the fighter in order to win, MMA just requires you to do more than just punching and blocking but that doesn't make it a better sport.
Boxing is fast paced and at least there is no wrestling in it to slow the pace of the match.

@DSAoftheSS But on the other hand striking with your hands while moving with your legs is the most complex aspect of fighting, it's almost a fine art compared to grappling and wrestling which are pretty easy to pick up because they are more natural. Frank Shamrock put it best - grappling is organic but boxing is the most efficient way to hurt somebody but it also requires you to retrain your brain and body.

If you want to learn effective self defense personally I would recommend Krav Maga; or kenpo/kempo over both sports. You can't even compare real combat self defense to a sport, if you get jumped in real life there are no rules. I also disagree boxing will always make more money, if trends remain as they are now they won't.

Boxing is trying really, really hard to keep their sport alive. The problem for them is that once their "dream" fight Pacquiao vs Mayweather takes place, it'll be the end for Boxing as we know it.
Their playing around with the fans and they don't even know it.

Ray Mercer knocking out Tim Sylvia in 9 seconds in an MMA match was more meaningful than a bloated fat James Toney who used to be a middleweight boxer losing to Couture. When Sylvia got KO'd to Mercer, he held the UFC Heavyweight title just 15 months prior to it.
Listen, both sports are established and successful. Boxing is far more popular worldwide, but MMA is probably more popular to the casual fan in USA right now. However, boxing is where the money is at.
