This game was based on the first one, Dante's Inferno I'm guessing that the snake is setting up for the second game. The second and third poem are called "Purgatorio" and "Paradiso".
Hopefully they make the games.

i see i have the divine comedy with all 3 poems in but i have never gotten around to reading it the words are a bit :/ish
