come on come on The JAM were and still are 1 of the best bands ever to grace this great country of ours was more into madness and bad manners at the time but over the years they have become 1 of the top 3 bands of all time in my eyes fucking tops beatles lmfao bowlheaded muppets
Paul sings "If you feel there's no passion". It's true, I've never seen him look so uninterested. You can see too, he's beginning to dress different like he would do in the Style Council.
I was 10 in 1980. Chart music was great then. I remember watching Top of the Pops every Thursday and being excited by the music. 1981 was a great year for music and 1982 too. 83 was, 84 and 85 were ok ish. I recall that in around 1984 chart music started to become rubbish, gradually. And from then on the rot set in. There was brief revival in 1994-6 with the whole Oasis/Blur/Pulp/Suede/Supergrass Britpop thing. The key is choose your msic from the wealth of great stuff in the past 50 yrs.
@madasahammer1 no no no, Beatles early stuff was corny old shite like Gerry and the pacemakers, The Hollies and every other group at the time with a few exceptions. All lyrics at the time involved meeting a girl, holding hands with a girl, saying goodbye to girl.......you get the picture. 66 and after the beatles came into there own and they saw The Beach Boys as there main opposition!
@Robcatist nah you just said she loves you the biggest selling song of the 60s the best era for music corny old shite and your saying revolution 9 is brilliant
yea praise to the invasion of privacy from the English in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and beyond. I wish only the American British could sing the American music, we have enough talent in this country to not need anything like pirate taking over of the airwaves. Send them to hell like they sent us in the 1770s. fuck europe and its utopist views. The only good thing to happen due to the influx of the English is Socialism.
British music was proper rocking int he 60s 70s and 80s. The 80s were great with bands like the Jam, xtc, the police, squeeze, the stranglers, the clash, the sex pistols, Adam ant, dexys Midnight runners, It was just one band after the other with consistant great hits that will be remembered for years to come. Thanks 80smusicfanman for posting this great hit.
That was the Weller that was.....pure genius...but you cn sense the tension between Paul and Bruce ...even the lyric are a subtle dig at the rest of the band imo
I still have the jumper that Rick Buckler worn on this video, bought from Burtons in Rotherham 1982/3 and it still looks good to this day .Long live The Jam
That jumper that gal is wearing,i distinctly remember them being popular in the day.Don't take my mind back! Plus i remember girls going around with the same image as her.
Something of a joyless performance this. Note Weller's elevated his teen prodigy a level above his bandmates. I've never understood why Bruce Foxton mimes the second line in the verses when it's clearly Weller's voice.
nahh it's definatly bruce on this version, can't you tell it sounds like him? i don't know why but this performance sounds different than the studio version... even though it's top of the pops?!
anyone that puts weller or beat surrender in the search bar on you tube just so they can slag him off is right up their own little ass now arent they....god is god..live with it....lol....mods...xd
I always remembered there was something about this that made me emotional aside from the tune and vocal. And now it all comes back! It's the rubbish clothes and the flat-chested pear-shaped wiggle beneath them. Spellbinding.
no weller no jam, no weller no in the city no english rose no tube station no butterfly collector, no underground no thats entertainment, no speak like a child wildwood etc , just smithers jones and news of the world, after the songs he's produced, i think he deserves to stick his head up his arse once in awhile, a true english legend, id kiss his arse anytime
Awsome band, but very short live,a band like The Jam shouldnt have a short live
