AFTER signing with WCW, he refuses to drop the belt to Shawn in Canada. He deserved what he got in Montreal!

What I also remember from the postmatch celebration was Shawn getting pissed as the ref for taking too long to put the belt on him then shoving Hebner away and muttering something in front of the camera. Total cock. Shawn was alot more obnoxious at Summerslam 96 in the match against Vader.
Watched this ppv live, and this match is overrated. Neither guy wanted to be the one to lose the first pinfall to the other so the whole iron man gimmick was killed. In hindsight it would of been more awesome if they just had a regular title match with a 60 minute time limit. Nobody would of ever thought they would of gone for the whole length but then do it. Don't have an iron man match with two premadonnas who won't job to the other.

I used to side with Hitman back in 96 and 97 but he turned out to be a sleaze too, cheating on his wife. As far as Hitman complaining about not wanting to job to Shawn at Montreal, Michaels lost to Hitman ALOT more back in 92/93. I think theyre career series was like 5 to 2 in favor of Hitman.
Shawn had that big knee injury years before in 1990, so he had a bad leg almost a full 8 years before whacking his back on that casket at the 98 Rumble.

This was such a bullshit ending. I believe it then when I saw it live and I believe it now 14 years after the fact. The WWF knew that screwed the pooch because the very next Iron Man match they added the stipulation where a tie would result in the title holder retaining the belt.
@mrm87 No see Gorilla was the interim president following Jack Tunney's departure in the summer of '95. In January of '96 he was beat up by Vader. Roddy Piper was named the president until Gorilla recovered. It was Piper that came up with the idea and made the rules for the Iron Man match in late Feb/early Mar(kayfabe, of course). It wasn't until minutes before this match that Gorilla was announced as full fledged president. So whether or not Vince made a mistake is unclear. Works both ways.
I haven't seen this in years... This was the first wrestling show I had ever been to, I was five. I'll never forget it all these years later. I walked in that night not caring much for wrestling, walked out a fan for life because of HBK. Thanks for posting this, lot of memories were made that night in Anaheim.

HBK is my favorite wrestler ever. He is the greatest of all time. And that was his crowning achievement. My favorite moment of Shawn's, winning that Iron Man Match and becoming WWF CHAMPION.
Owen Hart became a superstar after WM10, HBK became the showstopper after WM12, and Stone Cold became the biggest babyface since Hulk Hogan after WM13. In all cases, it's b/c they wrestled the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be: Bret "The Hitman" Hart.

When he's not feuding w/ his older brother, most of the fans usually just forgot about him. @DanEcho If you watch Hebner also tell's Shawn's manager Jose Lothario to get out.It was nothing personal against Bret.That was the defining moment of Shawn's career.He didn't want a situation like where Hogan completely buried warrior after he won the title at WM6.Bret being Bret makes a mountain out of a molehill and gets all butt hurt about it.

The WWF Championship is the WWE Championship. The same title lineage. The Miz is currently holding the same title that Shawn Michaels won at Wrestlemania 12.

This was such a bullshit ending. I believe it then when I saw it live and I believe it now 14 years after the fact. The WWF knew that screwed the pooch because the very next Iron Man match they added the stipulation where a tie would result in the title holder retaining the belt.

@mrm87 No see Gorilla was the interim president following Jack Tunney's departure in the summer of '95. In January of '96 he was beat up by Vader. Roddy Piper was named the president until Gorilla recovered. It was Piper that came up with the idea and made the rules for the Iron Man match in late Feb/early Mar(kayfabe, of course). It wasn't until minutes before this match that Gorilla was announced as full fledged president. So whether or not Vince made a mistake is unclear. Works both ways.

I haven't seen this in years... This was the first wrestling show I had ever been to, I was five. I'll never forget it all these years later. I walked in that night not caring much for wrestling, walked out a fan for life because of HBK. Thanks for posting this, lot of memories were made that night in Anaheim.

Owen Hart became a superstar after WM10, HBK became the showstopper after WM12, and Stone Cold became the biggest babyface since Hulk Hogan after WM13. In all cases, it's b/c they wrestled the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be: Bret "The Hitman" Hart.

@jp3813 i agree with stone cold.. but did you see Michaels at wrestlemania 10.. or at that next years royal rumble.. he was already one of the biggest stars in the business!! mcmahon just wouldnt give him the belt lol.. and i actually believe Owen would have been much bigger if not for Bret.. i mean Owen was basically just as technically sound as Bret was.. Bret was just over better with the fans.

@purplepurp07 Many wrestlers were technically sound, but don't really have that quality that fans respond to. Bret put Owen on the map. When he's not feuding w/ his older brother, most of the fans usually just forgot about him. As for HBK, it's true that he was already a star, but having someone get a clean victory over Bret is also a huge push.
