@Icdean86 Well, in New York, only volunteer fire departments are allowed to display blue lights on the front of the vehicle. Some Police Dept's are still going against the law and that would be an EXTREMELY dumb idea not to stop for that police car.

The license plate is a DEAD giveway in figuring out if a taxi is NYPD or just a normal cab, on a NYPD Taxi the license plate is a different style then the normal taxi's. If you are a New Yorker you will notice the difference. Let me explain, all normal taxis in NYC have a 4 digit plate with a letter at the end of it, usually A,B, C, or D and the letter on the front plate and back plate are always different, NYPD Taxi's DO NOT use this plate and have 8 digits that usually start with "T"

i highly doubt this is nypd, im thinking your assuming dew to the strobes that are amber, not red and blue. i would have to say its a supervisor of the taxi company and yes they have amber strobes on there cars,i was a dispatcher for a limo taxi in vegas and yes our field supervisors for taxi drove a taxi yet had strobes and the limo supervisors drove town cars and expeditions...

@19TL85 Dude, you don't even know what you don't know. It had red dash lights and rear flashing red lights. It had red grill lights as well. This before it was legal to have blue lights on police vehicles in New York State. And Vegas isn't New York.

The most realistic assumption is that they realize the city is flooded with taxis, so they decided what better of a disguise for an undercover car than a taxi? It will blend right in...
