@lys84. Why "le blaireau"? At the beginning of his career his nickname was "la taupe" which, on account of his aggressive cycling style, led his team manager to declare "moi, j'ai une taupe qui pousse". He changed to "le blaireau" to avoid such unfortunate imagery.
What a man! This has to be the last man who could win climbs, win time-trials and even win sprints? We've seen no-one like this for quarter of a century. Merkx preceded him, like him capable of riding the peleton off his wheel on almost any terrain, yet has the world really changed that much that there are no super-athletes anymore?
After his fall (1 minute into the video), he still managed to win the stage despite the finish line being at La Bastille in Grenoble. That last climb has an elevation of approximately 300m at 17% in average, including a 100m portion at 22-24%.
no helmet, no problem! the badger was in my opinion the last true great all around pros, unapologetic, in your face and tearing it up in every race he entered... imagine if a guy like Alberto Contador had the personality of someone like Bernard Hinault, he'd be a terror and undoubtedly become a legend. instead we get a pistol shooting cheese boy.
Thank goodness he survived that crash! He was a great, great tour champion.
I think Lance has grown a lot in personal maturity. The French people seemed to like him a lot more this time, and I hope that next year Lance wins and really gives a showing of class and respect for a great cycling nation that provides such wonderful enthusiasm for the sport. If he does that, he might end up finally being a well liked non-French champion.
Puis on l'a applique a Hinault.
Bernard Hinault is a master, a sportsman I will never forget. You're a champion, an example of courage. Lance Armstrong, is a champion or a personn who ran only the tour of france?thanks bernard!
what makes Bernard hinault AKA the badget- a legend?..only warriors raise from injuries & crashes like he did so many times and kept on going--not even a fucking winter storm stopped him from winning Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 1980--that's a masterpiece that has to be learnt from new generations to come

Last yellow jersey to win on the Champs Elysee (not including a TT) - says something about the guy's ability and his panache.

lys84 2 years ago

Bons contra-relogistas, bons escaladores, etc.

Awesome! Hinault crashes spectacularly in the 77 Dauphine, remounts and goes on to win. I don't say this often -- but what a man's man!
