Mertz won the prize for this piece in the competition organized by Makaroff, beating N. Coste for the first prize...unfortunately he died before he found out he had won.
It's nice to hear monstrously difficult virtuosic pieces like this played with such superb technique and musicality.

It's called Concertino and does not have any Opus number, but it was written for the Guitar Competition in the year 1856, organized by the Russian guitarist Nikolas Markaroff.
