Dave heard u on Larry Flick this afternoon (sunday 7/24) right b4 u went on stage in Denver. I have always enjoyed jazz, grew up listening to Herb Albert. Have listened to you for awhile now and thoroughly enjoy your music. Great interpretation of his classic. Fabulous video.
They did away with the best jazz station in the world-KWJZ, Seattle, WA. Its absence makes me realize just how much I'm missing such wonderful arrangements, and beautiful music. So sad to see a guy I heard as kid, seem so advanced in years now-Herb, your the King of the trumpet! Dave, keep on playing that sultry, sexy saxaphone!
What a wonderful way to put this song into a different light. Love the song and what it stands for. Equality for all. Great job Dave Koz and Herb Albert
"I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; 'and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.'"
Reading so many negative comments on a beautiful video depicting love and acceptance really saddens me. I only hope that one day we can be free to love who we choose without fear of retaliation from complete strangers.
I love that a number of commenters have taken issue with those who left comments criticizing Dave for "taking a stand" on marriage equity. Thanks for all the well written gentle reminders that we should all just relax, Koz it's only love.
BloodOfTheLamb1 A social issue that has merit should be able to stand on its merit without manipulating art to build its case. If it can't, what does that say about the social issue or the motivations behind the manipulation?
@daveywww1 Um, how is "love" a social "issue". The song is about a guy in love. The video shows lots of people in love. There is no "social issue" here. You're projecting your own bias onto this video (the video is simple and straight-forward).
If you have an issue with a video depicting love, (people falling in love or being in love or expressing their love) and you think ART is an inappropriate medium to talk about or show love then, you obviously haven't seen much of any kind of art.
Great job Dave, Thanks for Taking a Stand on Equality, Civil Rights and improving our Nation, our world. The nay-sayer's - are people who don't make a difference, contribute nothing, and throw darts all day long.
I grew up hearing this song from my grandparents. I've heard versions done by Noel Gallagher (of Oasis), Dusty Springfield (with the gender pronoun changed), Elvis Costello, the original instrumental version by Herb Alpert and now this. It doesn't matter who interprets it--it's a song that transcends time.
I've never liked the original version of this (sorry Herb Alpert! LOL) and I'm not overly thrilled with this version either, but Dave's voice adds a LOT to it (I had no idea he sang that well!), and this treatment is much more romantic and jazzy with less sappiness than the original. ;) hehe
I'm not really a jazz enthusiast but I have to say this was great. Hey you are never to old to learn, Right? Truly loved the music, your sax and voice, WOW. Thanks for the overall feeling of love.
Dear Dave and Graham, The music AND the video is absolutely fantastic! Thank you for your message of love and the amazing voice and all of the beautiful people!
Dave is my #1 guy when it comes to jazz saxophonist. Nice video, but this was my least liked cut on Dave's CD, "Hello Tomorrow!" I've listened to the CD probably 75 times and always skip past "This Guy's in Love With You."
@daveywww1 "Political correctness" is a disphemism used to dismiss any concern for social justice, which is in fact the responsibility of every citizen in a democracy.
Unnecessary for what or whom? Are you saying, "Don't bother me with important issues, just sing me a pretty song?" And if so, what does that say about you?
@BloodOfTheLamb1 A social issue that has merit should be able to stand on its merit without manipulating art to build its case. If it can't, what does that say about the social issue or the motivations behind the manipulation?
I just hope Dave keeps playing the sax, and stays away from emotional issues such as this. All of us who have many of Dave's CD's know what 2 insturments he plays best the saxophone and his voice.... music is his tool, I just don't like when artists side one way or the other, or even worse try to straddle both sides of an issue like this. Just keep on playing your music Dave... that is what we all love.
@stot2614 the issue is love, isn't it?. as such a bright and talented and openly gay artist, why on earth would he not feel to be inclusive, and honor love of everyone..it's so refreshing as a gay person, who, all my life, has celebrated, and honored commitments, loves and relationships of friends, and family ..
while my loving, deeply felt relationships were ignored.. have you no concern of how painful it is to a gay person? the song, and video is beautiful, in every sense.
@greghot I am not saying that the song, his playing, his voice and the video isn't beautiful, I am saying that doesn't he understand that not everyone will agree with him? If I were a musician, I would just keep on playing music the way I have always played it without getting into politics... very taboo if you sincerely want to keep your entire audience. Not everyone agrees with me and not everyone agrees with you, but music is really the love that brings us together, and not al subjects.
@stot2614 , I'm sure he understands. But all art is political, even in the avoidance of politics. Besides, this isn't really a controversial issue any more, except on TV. And Koz is gay, so why shouldn't he include himself?
Jazz generally is a genre which has sometimes been hostile to LGBT people. Lea DeLaria is the only other LGBT name I can think of associated with jazz (although surely there are more). There's a fan base waiting to be sold to.
@stot2614 Maybe this issue, the lack of equality to love whomever you want is important to him. Those who believe in him, his music, and his message will continue to follow and support him and I think that is what he cares about.
@Spookymuzzak I understand exactly what he is doing and why... but to me, I would leave the politics to the politicians. If he wants to run for office at any capacity, let him. It's just when people like Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Bon Jovi (just to name a few) try to hide behind the beauty of music while politicizing the art, it severely devalues the cause and/or the message if you are trying to sell to the public as a whole.
@stot2614 I have to disagree. I think the world wouldn't be the place it is without people like Bob Dylan and Marvin Gaye making their art periodically topical.
@darsynia And do you like the way the world is right now? I surely don't. Things were messed up long before I was born over 30 years ago... longer than most (if not all) of those who read this for all it's worth.
@stot2614 indeed, is the celebration of our love, politics? .... i am certain that he is well aware that there are those who, even in this day and age - still hold bigotry, and judgement toward us. If it is true, that music is love that brings us together, then why should gay couples be left out of this video? How is it political for a gay couple to embrace, anymore than it is for a straight couple to embrace?
I just recommended this song to someone who needed to do a paper on a music video with a message. Want to send Dave a big hug of support !!! Lovely video- wonderful message. Enjoyed it very much.

I had forgotten about this song until now & I really like it.
The video content is going to take some getting used to though.
For some reason the use of same sex partners spoiled the classiness of this song for me.
I have no doubt that I still have a long ways to go before I can truly internalize TRUE EQUALITY.

Good luck with your journey.....and STICK WITH IT.....you'll be a better person ALL THE WAY AROUND for it.
