Ma city!!!!!!! mumbai has been counted d most famous city in d world. bombay is d nation 4 everyone. wen sumone comes 2 work here. no one goes sad back
Dear Diptiman, The more I am growing by age the more I am growing nostalgic about my past,& to some old numbers both in Bengali & Hindi,.tunes that are set in the background of the India of the golden sixties when Mumbai/ Bombay belonged to Rajesh Khanna & a budding Amitabh & Kolkata/Calcutta was the city of Uttam & Soumitra. This song reminds me of Bombay to which got introduced to the early eighties..& eventually got gifted with some charming memories....Thank you for commenting to my post
Bombay or Mumbai always reminds me memories of my early student days which are very romantic.I am a Kolkattan & i have found Mumbai very interesting , friendly & nice city- truely a microcosm of India , no stranger to us Bengalis & also I feel a underlying unity with Maharashtrians.,Maharahtrians are also an emotional, less pecuniary & cultured nation like us.We have 2 similer songs about Kolkata "Tumi koto sundair Kolkata'(how charming you Kolkata) by Usha Utthup & another by Bhupen Hazarika .

Hello friend, completely agree with you! I'm also from Bengal & have worked & stayed at Maharashtra for almost 5 years between 2003 - 2008. Have loved being in Mumbai, Nasik, Kolhapur, Pune & Nagpur - each a wonderful place in its own way. My daughter was born at Kolhapur, the holy place of Goddess Mahalaxmi. I had some great Maharashtrian colleagues / friends too and still continue to be in touch with them after many years. Was one of the best periods of my life! Cheers :) !!
i agree it was copied from Percy Montrose's version of "Oh My Darling Clementine" .... but then the tune in this particular song changes after the first stanza so tht part is original .... whereas all Oh my darling Clementine song is sung in the same tune ..
oh what a tune here, my father used to sing this long time ago, wow greaaaaaaaaat, why we do not here such tunes in Hindi movies now a days. im rukshan from Sri lanka
This depicts the very essence of Mumbais lifestyle, the difficulty of staying in a metropolitan such as MUMBAI,a heartfelt salute to rafi bhai,he was the only one who could bring such emotion to the song
Yep the Bengali song is melodious too. The original one probably is "Oh My Darling Clementine". An old song sung by many stalwarts of 50s and 60s. I rate connie Francis' rendtition the best. Rafi saab sur ke badshah the. Unko Pranam.
@Chrisanthie Is it the same person who worked with me in KNPC in the 1985-90. My name is Nair Somapala Mahinda Kulathilaka and Kumara were my colleagues in the Mina Ahmadi Refinery. I don't think there is any Bengali version for this song. But if you want I can give you a bit of translation into English. My gmail ID is viswan1942
A Bengali song with the same tune was sung by Hemant Kumar. Equally marvellous. You should try to listen to that.. "Ei meghla, diney ekla .. ghorey thake na je mon.."

A shameless rip-off from My 'Darling Clementine'. Indian Musicians learn to steal tunes before they learn 7 notes.

I can only understand parts of this song, but keeps my feet tapping. Can some one pl. give us the Bengali song as well ?
This melody was used for a Sinhala song also,
" senasilla nelawilla mage' sithe' " sung by the late great Dharmadasa Walpola.
