I'm sorry to give offense but this movie is terribly done. It gives no regard to the book, the actors are over acting everything, and this seems to be taking place in France not England for some reason. And what was with the little boy doing cartwheels!!!!
This part was an interesting idea from the director. Don't quite understand the point of the stuff in the gardens, but the part insiden still helps establish the nature of the period.
Why is the movie odd? Because the director wanted to show you, what Cathy could have imagined. The way she felt after reading "Udolpho". That's why the music is not classical music for that times. And that's why there is Amelie- she's something odd, right! She's someone who makes general Tilney more mysterious for Cathy. And that's important part of the book and of the movie- she must think he's covering something.
The movie is not exactly like a book. No, but it was not to be!
You only say, how ugly the actors are, how discordant (i don't know if that's a good word) with the book is the movie. And that's why you say it's terrible. But look at it like you've never read the book.
How great the actors play! They can use only eyes and you see, what the character feels that moment! Look, every scene is like an picture! You can draw it and it'll be beautiful.
Ok, I agree. Mr. Tilney is ugly, but were is said he wasn't? He'd appear handsome to Cathy, but she wasn't pretty too! I don't remember if there was anything about mr. Tilneys singing in the book, so he could sing just like in the movie- just terrible. Ok, movie is not exactly like book. But who said it must be?!
"Something is happening at Northanger Abbey to make the blood run cold", yes honey, this is the most horrible film I've ever seen. And Tinley is ugly and sings disturbingly...wow, honestly, this film is above and beyond creepy.
holy shit this is the worst movie ever, everyone is well ugly and frigthtening and wa the heck was up with the black kid ?where did he come from? 2007 IS WAY BETTER!!!!!!
How did Catherine Morland manage to get a perm in the 1800's?! And where did she get that much black eyeshadow!? What's really funny is that she applied it ON her dark circles! Look at 0:16
How would anyone even come up with this? It's so bizarre, and so insanely contrary to the tone and intent of the novel.... Jane Austen will be turning in her grave!
Shame this scene doesn't appear in the book... which is harly surprising as the harp used is by Blazdell and dates from the 1820's, possibly as late as the 1830's.. and as for a young lady playing the flute... well, lets just say not in 'polite' society;-)
OMG who are that black kid and that frightening woman!? I must say again that this movie seems way too scary to me. I love the new movie of this book.

Usually I am a stickler for older Jane Austen adaptions, but this scene was just...odd.

They destroyed these beautiful Italian arias...Jane Austen's film adaptation are full with inspiring musical scenes...this is not the case...

Well, I´m not a Austen expert, but I don´t think she would have imagined Mr. Tilney singing that way

This is one of the strangest scenes I have ever seen. Completely random and hilarious.

Absolutely. There was no Amelie in the original, strangely painted or otherwise; nor was the General half as affable.
Austen's tableau has been randomised and mangled.

What. The. Heck? XD I seriously lol'd at this. Incredibly bizarre.
Catherine reminds me a lot of Kate Bush (especially in the video for Wuthering Heights) in her fantasy at the end of this clip. X)
