  • Having said that not all Covenanters were sell-outs to the Tory cause of Popery. The Whiggamore Raid seen a march on Edinburgh by supporters of the Kirk party of the Covenanters to take power from the Engagers whose army had recently been smashed by the English New Model Army at the Battle of Preston. This would later be shortened to Whig. A much prouder tradition than any filthy pre-jacobite like Montrose. Cromwell was the first great Briton. For that reason he is a true hero.

  • The winter of 1641 was the coldest in memory, but in Portadown it is remembered for something else. That year one of the worst atrocities in this island’s history took place, when about 100 men, women and children were stripped of their clothes, corralled overnight in a barn and then thrown over the town bridge to drown in the icy waters of the Bann. Was this yet another crime by the old enemy Cromwell? No, it was a massacre of Protestants by Irish-speaking natives.

  • where would we be without cromwell? probably still taking orders from inbred monarchs. Cromwell was the original revolutionary, he showed these monarchs that they were not divine or invincible. to me, Cromwell is a hero. what he did in Ireland was no worse then what other military commanders did at the time, across europe

  • Lets not forget that Mr.Cromwell gave us all the "gypo" in Ireland and Britain.Because of his actions in ireland,he displaced irish from there homes and they later became travellers. Now the modern Irish gypsie are a fucking plague on both countries......thank you very fucking much you wanker Cromwell and i hope u burn in hell u fucking cocker sucker. No differance between him and hitler if u ask me.......

  • Its rarely discussed, but the English Catholics suffered as much oppression as the Irish Catholics of the time. Public ritual beheading was the norm throughout the country & only two Catholic churches survived which were hidden in the forests. Oddly the Duke of Norfolk managed to survive and are the only English Catholic aristocrats today. Both Cromwell & the Monarchy were evil to the core.

  • Yay for the Royalists

  • hi ollie cromwell, or should I say cromberg. didnt Wencesalaus Holler draw your pic as your head was being chopped off at the tower of London? Why yes, I have a pic of it

  • ha ha, fuck you cromwell ,ireland's doing fine and ur england is a muslim state !!

  • Oliver Cromwell is the greatest hero in the history of the world.

  • @JuanMacready Cromwell was an evil murdering bastard

  • @UnbreakableWestlife Incorrect.

  • So one rat beat another? Does that make the winner a marsupial?

  • Lets look at the facts: Cromwell upon his arrival in Ireland brutally and needlessly slaughtered the whole town of drogheda. Not even children were spared and town burnt to the ground. No remorse. THEN when he took control of the plantations anyone who resisted the protestant religion was either killed or sent to western ireland where the land was poor and people eventually died slowly and painfully anyway. My opinion: A villain and an evil scumbag who deserves to rot in hell.

  • King in all but name.

I believe in justice, I believe in vengeance. I believe in killing the unsavoury fellow. Killing the unsavoury fellow now.

  • anyone who bans Christmas is a villain i though as a Christian (Puritan) he would have celebrated it

  • When Charles II was installed Comwell's remains were dug up, his dead body was hung drawn & quatered and his head put on spike ! the people hated him ! the country was miserable and war weary ! re the irish " To hell or to Connaught"

  • oliver cromwell isnt half hated by the catholics.

  • A hero

  • *e*

  • HE WAS A CUNT !

  • hehe your irish aint ya

  • nope

  • a great man

  • The extermination process, started many years before by Oliver Cromwell and his government, effectively put into motion the extinction of this Irish breed. Huge bounties, such as £6 per female wolf, £5 per male, £2 per juvenile and 10 Shillings per cub, had been placed upon the species, with hunters from Britain seizing the opportunity to hunt the species as the European Wolf had effectively died out across the Irish sea in Britain.

  • "Until, they learn to move on from this, they will always be an international emotional charity case and emergent laughing stock." (irish people) oliver1649.

Seems your the bigot olly. Very bigoted against Irish people.

  • "I believe

all the friars were knocked promiscuously on the head but two; the one of which

was Fr Peter Taaff... whom the soldiers took and made an end of; the other was

taken in the round tower, under the repute of lieutenant, and when he understood

that the officers in the Tower had no quarter, he confessed he was a friar; but

    that did not save him."

    oliver cromwell

    face a bit red olly?

obiviously cromwell consider killing unarmed priests as ok. Sure it was approved by british law

    RED OLLY.

  • In Cromwell's own words:

"Give us an instance, since my coming into Ireland, of one man not in arms, massacred, destroyed or banished."

  • Yes but he openly admited that catholic priests were to be murdered. no Doubts about that.

you face is bright red olly.

  • So know according to oliver1649 im a biggot and anti-british for stating their policy of hanging priests!

    lol

  • Paul,

Lol....the same old routine then I see.

    - Ignoring the question posed altogether

    - Padding the screen out with whatever you can cut-and-paste from the Internet

    - Patting yourself on the back for your own ignorance and bigotry

    Once again....

Can you name one eyewitness source that claims Cromwell was either involved in or ordered the deaths of non-combatants during his time in Ireland?

  • I believe

all the friars were knocked promiscuously on the head but two; the one of which

was Fr Peter Taaff... whom the soldiers took and made an end of; the other was

taken in the round tower, under the repute of lieutenant, and when he understood

that the officers in the Tower had no quarter, he confessed he was a friar; but

    that did not save him.

    oliver cromwell

    face a bit red olly?

  • So you dont believe Cromwell's own letter to parliament?

    Red faced olly.

  • A proclamation was now published stating

that any Catholic priest found in Ireland after

twenty days was guilty of high treason, and

liable to be hanged, drawn, and quartered ; while

any person harbouring a priest was liable to the

penalty of death. Should anyone be aware

of the hiding-place of a priest, and not inform

the people in authority, he was liable to a public

whipping and to be deprived of both his ears.

  • "Can you name one eyewitness source that claims Cromwell was either involved in or ordered the deaths of non-combatants"

Yes you clown olly. Cromwell himself order the death of non-combatant friars. Your face is so red olly.

  • The issue is not whether

civilians were killed in hot blood, for it defies common sense to believe an army

can storm a town and clear it house by house under sniper fire without many

civilian casualties, but whether civilians as well as soldiers and clerics were killed

in cold blood after the town was subdued.

  • As can be clearly seen below britian are guilty of their fare share of crimes. Of course olly's only response will be your anti-british or something like that. Then he will proceed to bitich on about Irishmen's crimes. lol. What a clown.

here are some quotes from him.

"I hear he has a soft spot for people with missing limbs." (about paul mccartney)

"Until, they learn to move on from this, they will always be an international emotional charity case and emergent laughing stock." (irish people)

  • Roman Catholic Irish were subdued to ethnic cleansing policy by Oliver Cromwell. After his suppression of a rebellion against the English in 1649 he ordered that the Irish were allowed to live west of the Shannon river only. During guerrilla warfare that followed thousands of Irish died or were sold as slaves to America. Cromwell had promised Irish land to the business investors and soldiers who had helped him perform his expeditions.

  • The 'Act for the Attainder of the Rebels in Ireland' of 17 September 1656 is part of this programme.

  • The land of rebels is attained and 'rebels' are defined in such a way that all Catholics match. By the end of 1656 four fifths of the Irish land was in protestant hands.

  • I've been dreaming of a time when

The English are sick to death of Labour

And Tories, and spit upon the name of Oliver Cromwell

And denounce this royal line that still salute him

    And will salute him forever

  • Paul,

Lol....here's another 'difficult' question for you to ignore....

Can you name one eyewitness source that claims Cromwell was either involved in or ordered the deaths of non-combatants during his time in Ireland?

Lol....I don't expect any real answer from a bigoted idiot like you.

Maybe a few anti-Protestant or anti-British remarks but nothing of any substance.

  • Can you name any sourse that says no civilains wernt killed?

So we accept civilians were killed you muppet. So who killed them?

    lol

  • Maybe a few anti-Protestant or anti-British remarks but nothing of any substance.

would those be the remarks on murders by the udr and ruc murders?

lol your face is very red little man.

  • I believe

all the friars were knocked promiscuously on the head but two; the one of which

was Fr Peter Taaff... whom the soldiers took and made an end of; the other was

taken in the round tower, under the repute of lieutenant, and when he understood

    that did not save him.

    oliver cromwell

    face a bit red olly?

  • n 1661, Oliver Cromwell's body was exhumed from Westminster Abbey, and was subjected to the ritual of a posthumous execution, as were the remains of John Bradshaw and Henry Ireton.Symbolically, this took place on 30 January; the same date that Charles I had been executed. His body was hanged in chains at Tyburn. Finally, his disinterred body was thrown into a pit, while his severed head was displayed on a pole outside Westminster Hall until 1685.

LOL LOL how civilized the brits were.

  • cromwell was a nutter. he screwed over England then Ireland then England again. dragged them into war with Ireland Spain the dutch. He wasn't thecommander people think he was either. He did full-on blind attacks and this tactic resulted in his worst losses ever at Clonmel. He was like an English hitler and a taliban in one. The English catholics and royaists were treated like the enemy in their own land. he was a villain.

  • "We robbed the Irish people of their language and their literature, and we attempted to rob them of their Church. We colonised Ireland - especially the north - with people loyal to the Crown and the Protestant faith, and we persecuted the native Irish when they would not conform to our religion. We drove Roman Catholics into exile, and killed thousands of men, women and children - and we invoked God as our justification"

    Anglican canon Nicholas Frayling

  • lord cromwell celebrate his life applaud his deeds he was a giant

  • its all over religion and worshipin a fukin stupid crown why be loyal 2 sumtin if that layalty aint givin u sumtin?

  • Who would be the original owners? Maybe the Celtic lords who were quite happy to accept the title of Earl from the English monarchy?

Or maybe the Anglican minor nobility who sided with the Catholics purely to maintain their own landed interests, which depended upon the monarchs support?

Or maybe the monarchy itself! The same monarchy that ordered the Ulster plantations then allied with the native Catholics, even after they murdered their own subjects?

  • You use a Catholic man's song 4 ur propoganda HAHAHAHAHHAHAH Idiots.

Scotland =- Land of the Scots

Scots = - Ulster and Northern Connact Men

  • ProtoAryan,

    lol....

Would you like me to list the questions you have yet to answer?

Isn't Ian Paisley and Irishman too?

I seem to remember hearing him say that Northern Ireland should remain in the UK.

    Found that eye-witness name yet?

I think you are out of your depth here my friend.

I suggest you go away and do some homework.

  • At the Siege of Wexford in October, another massacre took place under confused circumstances. While Cromwell himself was trying to negotiate surrender terms, some of his soldiers broke into the town, killed 2,000 Irish troops and up to 1,500 civilians, and burned much of the town

Seems good old oliver was a fairly crap leader. he couldnt even control his own troops. Another incompetent british leader. My god it must be a very long list.

  • ProtoAryan,

    lol....

What about the generations of British citizens living in Northern Ireland?

Should they all pack up and go?

What happens if they do not want to?

Is there any chance of you answering my earlier questions?

    Too difficult for you?

  • ProtoAryan,

    Facts, only facts.

Tell me, how was offering up the names of 3700 Irish Jews to the Nazis going to "liberate eire from british rule"?

    lol....

So, you've got "british freinds who say give ireland back to the irish".

If I said I had some Irish friends who said that Northern Ireland should remain in the UK, does that cancel yours out?

Hilarious, what are you on about?

  • ProtoAryan,

    Now I'm confused....

Wasn't the Nazi collaborator Sean Russell an Irishman too?

  • ProtoAryan,

    lol....

You don't seem to have any "fuel to throw on his fire".

You have no facts to substantiate anything you write my friend.

    Don't you understand yet?

  • cromwells moto to hell or to connacht to the irish civilian poulataion is proof that he did kill noncombatants,

  • Ahrimanfff,

    I see you're another comedian.

I challenge you to answer a request from Cromwell himself:

"Give us an instance, since my coming into Ireland, of one man not in arms, massacred, destroyed or banished."

I also suggest you look up the word "proof" in the Oxford English Dictionary.

    Chuckle.

  • ProtoAryan,

More of the 'victim sob story'?

Also, not all Irish men fought for Britain in WWII.

By way of example Sean Russell, 1940s IRA leader, supplied the Nazis with the names of 3700 Irish Jews in return for help to invade Northern Ireland.

You can visit his statue in North Dublin if you like.

    Shame, shame, shame.

  • ProtoAryan,

    Hilarious....

The English first came to Ireland at the invitation of an Irish noble.

"brits invaded ireland and thats all they need to know" - what age are you, 12?

  • ProtoAryan,

    lol....you're only proving my point.

Get over it and move on.

  • ProtoAryan,

I think that some Irish, fuelled by after-the-fact political propaganda, have a massive chip on their shoulders about Cromwell, as they do about anyone who got the better of them (and make no mistake, he did).

This is something they should either look into more carefully (i.e. check the actual facts) or simply move on and shake off the 'late night at the pub' victim mentallity.

  • ProtoAryan,

My point is that he rose from a low-ranking squire to be the defacto 'King of England'.

The Irish campaign had its flaws, as with all such endeavours, however the enemy was routed and the land secured - objectives met.

After all that, and nearly dying of illness in Ireland, he returned to England, defeated the Scots twice and ruled the country until his death in 1658.

A remarkable and historic life by anyone's standards you'll have to agree.

  • ProtoAryan,

The combatant Irish killed by the Parliamentary forces were "in arms" in the name of the young King Charles II.

Therefore they were a direct threat to the new regime in England.

Parliament did not want Ireland used by a foreign power as a stepping stone from which to attack England.

What did you expect them to do for goodness sake?

  • ProtoAryan,

    lol....can't you read?

I merely posed the following question to you:

Can you name one eye witness source that claims Cromwell was either involved in or ordered the deaths of non-combatants during his time in Ireland?

    Are you capable of answering?

  • ProtoAryan,

    "eye witnesses wud be dead"

    lol....

    Really Sherlock?

I suggest you read it again my friend:

Can you name one eye witness source that claims Cromwell was either involved in or ordered the deaths of non-combatants during his time in Ireland?

Let me know what part(s) of the question you do not understand.

    Chuckle.

  • Rot in hell you murdering scumbag

As ad as Hitler this cunt was

  • MarkyMarkDCU,

Got any facts or is it just the usual foul language and name-calling?

    Thought so.

  • MarkyMarkDCU,

I thought you might be interested in this quotation about Cromwell and how he has been slandered by the Irish Republican creative writers club:

"Ireland was no match for Oliver Cromwell, which is mainly why historically inaccurate judgements have been made about him".

"....he is the subject of a colossal grudge held by one nation against its larger neighbour".

  • He was a filthy murderer and that is well documented

  • MarkyMarkDCU,

How many times do I have to ask?

Can you name one eye witness source that claims Cromwell was either involved in or ordered the deaths of non-combatants during his time in Ireland?

Come along now chumy, cough up some names, dates, and quotations.

    I can wait.

    Tick tock....

  • Cromwell summoned the town of Drogheda to surrender - they refused.

In the accepted rules of combat in the 17th century he had every right to put all found in arms in the town to the sword.

    This he did.

Cromwell won, the Irish Confederates lost.

    Get over it.

  • He slaughtered women and children in Drogheda.

He ethnically cleansed 1/4 of the population of this country. So politely fuck off and stop trying to justify the massacre of innocents

  • MarkyMarkDCU,

Please produce one eye-witness account that claims non-combatants were killed or even attacked in either Drogheda or Wexford.

Also provide first hand evidence that Cromwell ordered the death of non-combatants.

Good luck with that by the way.

If you have no facts to back up your schoolboy claims then I suggest you hold your peace my friend.

  • Scott Wheeler, James. Cromwell in Ireland, 1999.

    ISBN 9780717128846

Read that and get back to me you ignorant cunt.

  • MarkyMarkDCU,

I didn't ask for the title of a book my friend.

Name one eye witness source that claims Cromwell was either involved in or ordered the deaths of non-combatants during his time in Ireland.

Just one name and their quotation, that's all I ask.

    Do you understand?

  • Rot in hell Ollie .
