Haven't you heard about his balancing system? He is constantly determining how much wieght to distribute to each leg while walking. He can run while turning, balance on one leg, and even kick a ball.

robots are unable to think as humans do....this is simply because we don't even know why humans think the way humans do. There are many theories about brain function and mechanisms that are specialized for certain processes but for now they're just theories and until we can prove that humans think in certain patterns due to (whatever the mechanism may be) we can't program a robot to do the same. Thus, these stupid things will never take over the world.

It is a way of saying that people of the world came together in different country's Honda research institutions to accomplish tasks. ASIMO has always been autonomous. The programmers have written descriptive commands and calculations combined with the eye of the robot.

Human controlling ASIMO is the recent development. Japan developed a system call BMI, Brain Machine Interface that connects the human brain to a robot by a helmet. That helmet measures brain waves than transmit those waves to the robot brains to do things. Thats recent. ASIMO being autonomous is not recent that is old.

That while he is a machine, he is progressing towards something greater (the stairs indicate this), and while he has his faults (the leak), he is still learning about the world (telescopes) and about himself (mirror image.)
