Depends on the hit, direction, distance, speed, power, user's strength and experience, target, target's strength and experience, and many many other factors.

Situation also plays a very large factor.

More people are used to punching, thus it's easier for most to pull off.

The smaller the impact surface, the bigger the force concentrated on the targeted area (collar bone, neck, solar plexus, piece of wood..etc) and the bigger the impact surface, the force will disperse. a fist is harder, but it disperses the force more than the knife hand does.

punch. no matter how ppl say to use ur palm or a crane's neck, punching is a lot more effective than a knife hand. the knuckles are harder than than the knife part of ur hand, and plus knife hand can hurt ur hand. punching is far more natural and though knife hand is more concentrated, a punch would hurt more. try punching between the chest and abdomen, the neck, and remember to use ur hips and if possible take a step when punching. ive seen kids at 5"1 make sm1's arm go numb by taking a step.
