Wonderful rendition of a classic. I've always loved Christina's jazzy/bluesy style. I have to admit that she does tend to oversing at times, though. Check out Whitney Houston's live version, I think it was 'Whitney Houston A Song For You live WHH 1991' - astonishing power and vocals also. A different style and very nice use of pauses. For me, Whitney's version edges out Christina's, though Christina will always be my fav vocalist ^^.

Wonderful rendition of a classic. I've always loved Christina's jazzy/bluesy style. I have to admit that she does tend to oversing at times, though. Check out Whitney Houston's live version, I think it was 'Whitney Houston A Song For You live WHH 1991' - astonishing power and vocals also. A different style and very nice use of pauses. For me, Whitney's version edges out Christina's, though Christina will always be my fav vocalist ^^.

Outside of her rabid fan-base most AAs (that I know of) don't consider Beyonce to be soulful either. There are plenty of black women with genuine soul voices who are told that they have the wrong "look" to make it in the industry or get the dismissive "I could hear that in any black church" (TM Simon Cowell).

Don't love Whitney's version (Ray Charles or Karen Carpenter do better) but at least she manages (at times) to connect with the actual lyrics, and unlike Xtina succeeds at every belt, riff and run because she had true iron control over her vocals and genuine timing.
