You can actually play the Pokemon TCG online now. It's still in beta, so you can only play against AI, but it's pretty cool. My suggestion: mute the in-game sound and loop this theme in the background. So much better.

Oddly enough Ronald gets easier as the game progresses. Early-on you usually have fewer cards and therefore much weaker decks so you can struggle against some of his strategies - the AI for him is quite well-coded too. But as your card numbers increase he gets easier as your deck becomes stronger. It culminates in a pathetic final battle where his deck solely relies on the legendary Pokémon begin Scooped Up and put back into play - tank him and his deck quickly falls apart. Shame...

The phantom cards are nothing compared to the Card Pop exclusives. In order to get them, you had to use the card pop feature with a friend, which gives both of you a RANDOM card.

BTW, I'm pretty sure that Card Pop used the infrared sensors on the Game Boy Color instead of the link cables, which I think makes this the only game to ever utilize that feature.
