Please don't patronize me, I'm fully aware of what the National Security Act is, my favorite president is Harry Truman. Yes, J. Edgar Hoover operated with tremendous leeway, but that's the FBI, not the CIA, which seems to be what you're referring to.
When you imply the CIA ran the country beginning in 1947, you're completely wrong, at least in the cases of the Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations. (see next post, I'm running out of room)
I stand firmly behind the notion that in this interview, Wright is retrospectively skewing his sermon. Besides, your argument is flawed in that Wright's assertion that AIDS is a racist conspiracy is mutually exclusive of the history to which you refer. By your standard, Wright was being honorably politically correct by defending his assertion that the Reagan administration tried to mass-murder minorities. Also, how could you possibly compare MLK to Wright? Unification vs. division. Ridiculous.
Not division Bernie10025 but a history lesson. Rev. Wright words are not that of "division", they are a truth of which most people in this country do not wish to accept. This country has tried numerous times to eliminate people of African dissent as well as Native. In the Reagan era, you needn't look any further than the crack cocaine epidemic which, in Gary Webb's article, outlines how the CIA introduce it in South Central Los Angeles to target..."blacks". Truth is what it is.
I think I see exactly where we disagree. I agree that there have been horrible bureaucratic blunders in which racist people have had enough power to do terrible things, but I wish to make a distinction: saying that there were racist episodes during the Reagan era is very different from saying that the Reagan administration conspired to murder black people. That is the difference between what Rev. Wright has said, and what you are saying. There's more, so I'll reply again.
I wish to further point out that Rev. Wright implies the conspiracy to murder blacks as ongoing. Barack Obama is the nominee for president, it's clear that as a society, while we haven't gotten "there" yet, we've certainly made progress. Also, I think its a bit blind of you to claim that Rev. Wright hasn't been divisive. Even if we don't argue about his sermons, consider the effects on the Obama campaign.
You are correct, there has been progress. What you fail to understand is that the progress has been a continued assault against the blacks. Our government is complicit in this assault, but the actual assault is being carried out by powers that are far powerful than the American government. You need to do a little more research regarding who is running America and who groomed Obama and put him in office.
You are 100% correct. The CIA has been the bigest importer of drugs (of all types) into the U.S. since the late 40s. Also, please see the comment response to bernie10025, above.
MLK was divisive at the time because integration was not something most Whites had not wanted. So when you go against the norm of society you are being divisive. Wrights problem was that what went on in his church got leaked out into the masses of American house holds. And how do you 100 fold know that Aids was not created out of racism?
The AIDS virus was manufactured in a lab @ Fort Dietrick Maryland and released into the population as a test of its effects. A little, on your part, research will confirm this.
I'm sorry, but I cannot accept that the Reagan Administration conspired to secretly test the AIDS virus on blacks. This is a ludicrous suggestion, and there are many ways it can be dismissed, if anything with simple questions. How do you explain Reagan's good relationship with Indira Gandhi? What about Gwen Ifill? What about African-American Republicans who extol the virtues of the Reagan Administration?
Extreme suggestions like these only alienate the people you're trying to convince.
You seem to have overlooked the fact that the government is no longer under the control of those who seem to govern. It has not been since 1947. You need to do a little more research, my friend. I've done mine and my statement stands.
The Truman Doctrine belonged to Truman, and was implemented in Greece and Turkey by the CIA. Eisenhower's international interventionism using the CIA (for instance, the overthrow of Mossadegh) was coordinated with his administration through the close relationship between the Dulles brothers (intelligence and state), Allan ran the CIA and John was Sec. of State. Finally, you cannot possibly disconnect JFK from the actions of the CIA in Cuba, which he completely controlled.
@bernie10025 I have a question how is this different than syphillis? We not only intentionally infected black people in this country but we infected people in other countries. A fact that President Obama had to apologize for that. How ironic yes?
Obama left because father Flager put extras on the situation after Obama had already defused the situation. Obama would have stayed. But also Rev.Wright was not being politically savvy. It was more about the timing of what he had to say as opposed to what he had to say. He should have told Obama to go to another church when he sought his blessings to get involved in politics.
Wright's sermon is bullshit. Say what you want about Iraq, but the incursion into Afghanistan was totally legit and would have been undertaken by the the most pacifist of American governments. Also, yelling about the American Indians and Hiroshima/Nagasaki is just a rhetorical device, there's no connection whatsoever. Having watched this interview, in my eyes, Wright has gone from a raving lunatic to a manipulative jerk. There's no way to rationalize his sermons, even in context.
What was doen to the American Indian is a matter of history - Real history. It is hidden because it paints a true picture of the imperialist agenda.
WIth each of your statements, I disagree. They reveal a lack of true knowledge and acceptance of the truth regarding the history of America and its never-ending of oppression, not just of blacks and Indians, but also of the poor and underpriviledged. History does not lie.
He said that blacks are equal to whites. That is not black supremacy. He never said any thing about violence to whites. What interview were you listening to because he didn't advocate violence to anyone. You are not making any sense. But, I guess you don't have to. A few Inflammatory words and fause classifications and voila! there you have it your typical ignorant racist statement. Fause accusations followed by a political agenda.
exactly, but the problem is that when blacks try to step higher from their lower base, the whites consider that as supremacy. They say you are racist because you are trying to be proud of your own african history and in many cases, they try to bring you down because they don't want to see black people succeed.
In case you haven't noticed this country is already divided. some of us have seen this and would like to end this divide.leftwings, rightwings, consers avative, liberals, redstates, bluestates we are all americans,a melting pot with different views.but it's not Abama doing this . This was done mostly by the media and people who used these divisive words to accomplish their own end.Think when you read or hear these negative things not just about Abama but about anyone.Think for your self.
The only people calling Wright's comments racist are the people who are themselves racist, and the people who see a benefit from making these comments out to be racist.
P.S. I find it quite telling that comments made in support of Obama, Wright, and just plain old critical thinking are marked as "Spam" . . . quite interesting indeed. jenontheshore and jastheswift2, thanks so much for raising the level of this convo.
you all are completely passive consumers of information. beef up your critical thinking skills before you watch the news or read the paper. learn to question everything--your comments are lazy and not well thought through. go read a book and learn something. seriously. tell your minds to get of the couch and get some exercise because the level of these comments is just sad.
all right... your profile without doubt shows you are a product of an incestuous relation (redneck) and lived in your pig stay all your life to produce more incestuous offsprings (rednecks).. :-D
From your profile I can bet you believe:
1. The world was made 6000 years ago.
2. Creationism is SCIENCE :-D.
3. Global warming is a conspiracy.
4. Atheists are EVIL people.
5. Opposing Iraq war is unpatriotic.
6. Patriots wear American flag underwear & flag pins.
I reall hate the fact that the "black" community like Rev Wright belongs to, doesn't look to the future instead of constantly living in the past. LET IT GO! Work together for a better future, stop whining about the past. "Oh, poor me, the white man is so bad" with that attitude, there will always be a divide, not of race, but of attitude. Why doesn't Wright see how destructive he is to his community?
you really have no grasp of reality. we can work together for a better good but many black communities are so devistated from years and years of oppression. until you not only recognize this, but the effects that linger, you wont be able to work towards a solution. if it was as easy as "forget your past and look at tomorrow" then it would've been done already- but it isn't! black history is not even taught in public schools! you should really do research before you post...
coke and pepsi have been around a long time but they still advertise.george washington and abraham lincoln to name a few have been around a long time (Past) but they still are taught in school.Black people arent constantly living in the past most of us are like some of you educating our selves, working hard but because some people idiology of Blacks havent changed we are forced to keep living in the past.
Currently, black history is not taught in elementary schools in the United States. Yet they teach about Washington, Jefferson, Adams as is they were saints or something. Wright has been one of the most powerful and influential people in his community.
NObama 08 seems to know a lot about jeremiah wright. i wonder if he or she knows how the current administration has hijacked our rights and the constitution. i wonder also if this person critically thinks, are indiscriminately eats what the media feeds. is this person capable of a dialogue, or is this person effectively brainwashed? RON PAUL 08!!
NObama08, did you watch the interview? Maybe you should. Regardless of what you think of Wright, you might as well see what he has to say for himself.
And yes. We took the country, forcefully, from the Native Americans that were here before us. It wasn't a treaty, just an imperialist takeover. But somehow, through our schooling, it is desensitized and we are left thinking it's no big deal - we have a great society and great country. All this so-called controversy going on just makes me sick - seeing what people will do to a person/persons who speak anything but highly of them. WE ARE NOT PERFECT and it is ignorant to think so. Spread the word
yup... I can attest to that personally. When you try to show a system and its constituents what is wrong with that system, the system resists and strikes down that protester. That's why it's so hard to change Washington as it is. That's why it's so difficult to stop the racism and ongoing, yes, discrimination and prejudice in this country. No one wants to face it, nor deal with it. And if you do, you are the enemy and you must be stopped.
All you can do is keep trying and not lose your voice.

Jeremiah Wright - What a brave, wise man. Barrak was wrong in resigning from his church because what was being said not "politically correct."
Perhaps reverend wright should have said "God curse America," instead of God Damn America, but the result is the same.
What has happened in the case of Rev. Wright is what happens when the corporate media paints a picture of a man using only its own colors.
I like Rev. Wright. He is in the tradition of Martin Luther King. Praise God.
