  • I love the pure awkwardness of these things. lol. Love the Stranglers.

  • pure awesomeness

  • Too tacky for the Stranglers ffs good song though

  • the original is much better!!!!!!!

  • @junkie161 At least the guitar solo is on key in this one.

  • heyz that really tim burton a.k.a the drummer of the stranglers?

  • the kinks ver is gr8 and so is this. its the stranglers, man.

  • I like the Kinks version the best but this is fun and well done. Thanks for putting this up. I like the Stranglers original material even better. :)

  • Am I the only one that thinks this sounds quite like The Doors with their " Hello, I love you" ?

  • @BortolazziDeTon

No you're not the only one.

Hello I love You. Won't you tell me your name" was released in 1968. Ray Davies was advised to sue for plagarism. He didn't, even though most experts think he would have won. Even Jim Morrison admitted the song was heavily influenced by The Kinks.

  • @BortolazziDeTon that's pop music, no originality !

  • @BortolazziDeTon no, you're not the only one who finds it !!!

  • KINKS THE BEST!!!!!

  • y'a quelqu'un qui a renversé d spaghetti par terre ...

  • must be the best ever cover of Kinks original

    -absolutely superb, very sophisticated band

  • i love these fuckin guys

  • this is great... and by great i mean horrible. what a great way to ruin such a good song. this is crap

  • @TheFlipstein , you're an idiot pal. Have you ever seen the stranglers live . They're absoloutley brilliant musicians. The Kinks version is great but this is a fantastic cover. So go screw yourself!!!

  • Good old Hugh Cornwall...my favorite Brfitish junkie and a musical genius

  • Not a big Stranglers lover but saw them about 15 years ago at the old Man City Maine Road supporting Prince. They did this number and it was not mega but 'tera'. The bass nearly blew me over !

  • THIS IS THE TIME ON SPROCKETS WHEN WE DANCE

  • I can't believe I missed these guys at oxegen

  • that bass jj is playing is so shit!!!

  • great band ! :) thanks for uploading ☺☻♥®

  • I personally like this version better than the original, it's got more bite, when i play this song with my band live, we do it stranglers style, Hugh is awesome!

  • @Cptjackjacky Stranglers are very cool, but their version of the original primal Kinks version is like Elvis covering Little Richard's Tutti Frutti - doesn't even come close, but still better than Pat Boone covering Little Richard's Tutti Frutti. :)

  • omg, what a bad show...

  • @KWFBong you obviously have no taste mate.

  • @2504marcus No, absolutely not bad but different!

I agree, the original kinks version is very lame, but you should check out their Live recording "One for the Road", there they play this song and it just sounds awesome.

You would agree, that this Stranglers Pop Rock can't win.

  • @KWFBong the kinks?? lame?? are you for real?

  • I realize you're a fan of the One For The Road version, and I like that too (I love the Kinks in all eras, and solo work by the band members!) but I must say, the original is amazing. When it came out, nothing was more ferocious sounding, and since music is such a sterile sounding waste on radio today, it STILL sounds more raw and primal than anything out now! :)

  • kinks sound better

  • ON MY PAGE STRANGLERS HUGHCORNWELL1

  • ON MY PAGE STRANGLERS HUGHCORNWELL1

  • Hugh was a massive Kinks fan!! Why would he be embarrassed!! My older bruv bought this in the 60's and we both loved it then- we couldn't believe our fave band the Glers would release it years later!! Top number.

  • The kinks copied this? Don't think so somehow...

  • somehow i doubt that, common sense dictates most of my doubt

  • Its a Kinks song, this is a cover.

  • This was near the end wasn't it?

Hugh looks almost embarassed to be covering an old Kinks song.

Can't believe they are still rocking on now. I saw them in 1992 and they were considered a spent force then, at least from a recording point of view. They still put on a great live show playing their old classics.

  • always loved their take on an old Kinks song. from the toronto girl

  • The Stranglers was first time in Finland about a month ago. I saw them at Helsinkin Tavastia Club. They were great!

  • yo puedo en la paino

  • I hope kinks were proud of them

  • original by The Kinks

  • thanks for that post!

The Stranglers are my fav band, I'm seeing them here in Liverpool in a few weeks time

I think that the best bands/singers in the world come from Britain....Beatles (from my hometown), Stones, Clash, Kinks, Supertramp (from England originally), Queen, Bowie, Elton John, Eric Clapton...need I say more, sorry USA for once ur second best!

  • I agree with you on that comment. I love all those singers and am glad they changed music for the better. To me, music is universal, even here in the USA. Thank God for the Stranglers!!!!!

  • yea for once but in everything else were best and i coulda sworn queen were american seeing as they were born here but w/e

  • lol u make crap cars crap food ur tanks and planes arnt the best any more and which one of queen is american then?

  • Muy buena banda, supieron mantener el espiritu rockero de lo kinks sin alterar la duresa y ritmo de la original, sin duda kinks deveria estar orgulloso de que esta version halla salido tan bien.

  • hehe I met Hugh Cornwell.

  • esta chido

  • Is this from a German t v show.

  • Exactly like this it is: Called "Formel 1" die ARD Hitparade...
