There's a song on youtube, if you type in medieval it's the first result - the guy playing guitar. That's in drop D, and there's nothing metal about it, it just gives more range =P

Tunings are genre-free. It's whatever the band thinks sounds best and/or fits with the singer. I've heard so many genres which are in drop tuning, including drop C...
Exactly, guitar tunning has ZERO meaning for music. It's only there for what the band wants it there for, It's what tunning they prefer. Some people play in Drop B, some in D, some like Standard, some like every string tunned to D or whatever tunning. Every band is allowed to play in whatever tunning and just because they are in drop tunning doesn't mean they are trying to be "metal"
btw, idk which 1's the right one for the intro, but i believe its fifth chords (on 6th, 5th, nd 4th strings) going 4p6 4p6 4p6 4/12\0. its the opening riff around 0:12. at least thats what i think it is...well, its what i play...actually, i go that the first time, then second time i go 4p6 4p6 4p6 0p7

This song is pretty easy to play! Just tune to Drop D (Tune top string to D from standard). The rest is basically 4-6-4-6-4-6-4-6, and so on.
Chorus: Hold top 3 strings: 6666-9999-4444-1111-6666, Repeat.
VERY easy to play.

The pre chorus part you're talking about has a back up guitar thats doing this on the A, D, & G strings, the strumming isn't stalled at all...
