  • do you think it would have the same effect if you refrigerated it?

  • Dumb question: How do you use this mixture? everday? just twist?

  • do you think this would be okay to use in my braids?

  • do you put this on your hair or body???

  • what's this product for? for moisture?

  • wow, i liek the creaminess of it, but how come u didnt add a preservative? i have not made my mix yet but i seen ppl add honey or tea tree oil so it wouldnt mold (however long it takes to do that?)

  • @Ch0xie If the mixture doesn't come in contact with water or water product like, glycerine, Aloe Vera, or gel then it will last longer, once it comes in contact with water it has a two week shelf life because their isn't a natural preservative to kill off positive and negative bacteria.

  • what does shea butter do to ur hair?

  • @kim24may grows it, contact me for shea butter

  • Rusty... do you use the shea butter and coco mix in the winter months or just during the summer?

  • does melting the shea butter cause it to lose any of it's medicinal properties? could you still have blended the shea butter and other oils in its natural state?

  • @AfroPufChic no it doesn't lose any of its properties when melted. When you boil it that's when it becomes a problem. Sort of like when ppl boil out the nutrients in their vegetables (really soggy).

  • you know this is good considering how much we spend on hair products save you money girls!

  • AWESOME!!!! I've been wanting to make my own hair cream, but I just got sidetracked and dropped the idea altogether. Not anymore. Gonna buy some shea butter ASAP! Have everything else I need!!!

  • Is this suppose to be like an leave n conditioner??? Or do you wash it out???

  • @creative0824 you can use it as a moisturizer, or a leave in, or a prepoo conditioning treatment...it has sooo many wonderful properties!

  • I love this stuff so much.

I'll never buy commercial products again.

  • Good idea for extending the goodness of the Oyin Burnt Sugar.

  • i love the shea buttter mix. I add coconut oil, & doo gro oil

  • Oh wow! I gotta try this! Thanks so much for making this video! I'm gonna try to add some coconut oil in mine too and maybe a little veggie glycerin...but I've always wanted to melt down my shea butter but I wasn't too sure how the consistency would look or how to actually do it but this video helped me out. How long did it take for the shea butter to melt after you put the container in the boiling water bowl?

  • HI Rustic,

Love all your videos BTW. I made my first batch of Shea Butter Mix today. I have it on the table to firm up a bit. I added coconut oil, Vitamin E oil, EVOO, and honey. I will let you know how it turns out. It looks kind of dark right now. Maybe because of the honey added?? Anyway, keep posting the videos, they are great for newbies like myself as I am 3 months into my BC and my hair has grown about 2 1/2 inches since. It is amazing how fast it has grown.

    Thanks Again.

  • I wanna try and use your method but just wondering how long does it last approximately and does it stay smooth like that or does it harden up after it sits longer.

  • I havent bought any actual shea butter but i have the oil. do you think it will produce a similar result?

  • Luv this video!!! I just made some today. Hope it turns out as good as yours. Thanks.

  • it came out very nice

  • ooooh Thanks for this tut Ill be doing this today:) Thankss

  • Hello! Are you using this shea butter mix for twisting your hair...if not for what purpose? Do you always twist your hair on wet or dry hair? Which one is better...twisting on dry or wet hair? Do you retouch your twists at night..if so how? Please respond....because I want to try this!!!

  • do you use this mixture to apply on your hair to twist it? should i add the coconut oil to the mixture when blending? do you ever dry twist your hair and if so what are you using for that and what are the steps? which is better dry or wet twist?

  • Tell me how does it smell?

  • (katiapearl1)It smells so much better, you can definetly smell the OH.

  • Thanks for making this video. It helps me a lot. I never thought of using one blade of the mixer...so clever!

  • Do you use this mixture to grease your scalp or to moisturize your hair?

  • both, just dont use too much on your scalp or you could cause your scalp to flake. a little shea goes a long way.

  • Your nails look so healthy, you should do a toot...lol

  • thanks for posting but i am wondering if your protein sensitve why did you use cocunut oil in you mixter i would be scared i think and use somthing else like extra virgin olive oil or something like that?

  • i bet that would be great for skin.

  • Thanks for posting this , I made my own mix and will be using this all the time...i added way more coconut oil by accident but I still love it. I had shea butter, rosemary oil, coconut oil, and vitamin e

  • (nymack33) Yeah next time I will add more coconut oil, vitamin e, and maybe some sweet almond oil...

  • How much vitamin e and sweet almond oil would you add? Do you know if this mixture is good for transitioning or is it better for completely natural hair?

  • Were can I get these products to buy for the Shea butter mix

  • (specialkayq)shea butter butters-n-bars dotcom, burnt sugar pomade oyinhandmade dotcom and EV coconut oil krogers, vitaminshoppe and whole foods...

  • Thanks a lot.

  • Hi rusticbeauty, were can i get the oyin burnt sugar..and when do you use this product mixer on your hair...thanks for all your advice ahead time.....you do such a good job...dont worry about people...brenda thomas

  • I really like your mixture, but next time you might want to add either honey or vitamin e oil as a perservative/natural antiseptic to keep it from molding. wonderful idea adding the oyin burnt sugar!

  • you think honey might work as well with vanilla extract & coconut oil? Or would it be too sticky?

  • can you use a blender........i know....ghetto

  • (Miamiba) I guess you could but it would probably be a little difficult to remove everything out....

  • Comment removed

  • (1kid2luv) It did harden up a bit more, but when I applied it to my hand and hair it was a very nice consistency somewhat creamy---next time I will proabably add more EVcoconut oil...that is the key to a creamier mix IMO

  • Try using a wisk (better known as an egg beater) and whip your shea butter with it. I used that, and I got a consistency equal to what's in the video. Hope this helps.

  • hey, thanks for that tip! I definitely did not want to buy a hand mixer.

  • looks good. actually i think i wold like to use this on my skin..minus the pomade.

  • The pomade can be used on the skin as well

  • NICE CONSISTENCY! Thanx for sharing!

  • Rustic, are you using this as a deep conditioner or moisturizer?

  • (blford7) As a moisturizer...

  • does anybody know if you can put vanilla extract in these mixing? I'm trying to stay at 100 % natural, but i can't them at my local food store.

  • (michaeluvnikita) Haha, we think alike. I have been googling vanilla extract that is alcohol free...I see them but I don't know if they will work well...try amazon

  • I tried amazon but it didn't smell right. Smells like it had alcohol in it

  • The only way i can get natural vanilla is when my aunt goes to Haiti but she ain't going any time soon, and I am dying to get rid of this shea butter smell. I'm having a hard time finding them in store. Plus I won't get it online I don't want them to cheat me and send me some made up stuff.

  • Mexico makes/sells a lot of pure vanilla. If you know anyone going on vacation to Mexico, they can hook you up with a 16 oz bottle for like $5. Also try the Mexican/Hispanic markets. It will cost a lot more there, but it should be pure. Blessings and respect.

  • Disregard my last question. Watched the vid again and got the answer :)

I've started mixing products and I love it.

Rustic, please let us know how you like your product.

Also, to ppl with stinky shea butter: I've been using natural shea butter for years and it typically has just a faint nutty scent. Of course, if you don't like that, then you just don't. But i don't think shea is supposed to be outright smelly. Try a minimally refined shea and be careful who you're buying it from.

  • Rustic, how much shea butter did you melt before adding the other ingredients? And did you use the pomade for the scent alone, or because of some other nice ingredients?

  • Did the pomade make the shea butter heavy on your hair? Cause I thought pomade was something to "weigh" the hair down.

  • (BeautyU2U) It doesn't weigh MY hair down it is actually pretty light...

  • Oh cool. I heard about that pomade a few times and I was wondering how it would work on natural hair.

  • i have to know where do you get your shea butter from.

  • Great video you made this look easy to do! I will be trying this one for sure! Be Bless!

  • great! i mixed some shea butter and coconut oil a few days ago and i love it...i want to try some other frangrances to it for different smells...

  • I hate the smell of shea butter. Is there anything you like to add to make it smell better?

  • essential or fragrant oils

  • if you like fragrance like lavender or rosemary extracts etc. and add drops of it into i did it with peppermint oil it came out good but only in small batches of shea butter

  • I like to add Ginseng Miracle Wonder 8 Oil from Walmart. It has this sweet smell to it and it is loaded with tons and tons of wonderful oils for you hair. It was like maybe $2.50 for 8oz. :]

  • .

I too am a Wonder 8 fan- I mix in in my hands with my vanilla shea butter- and it makes my hair smell AMAZING! And you cannot beat the price.

  • what aisle did you find the wonder 8 oil?

  • I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!

  • That looks wonderful. I may try melting the shea butter for my next batch.

  • Ordered some shea butter from someone...I havent used it YET but i plan to next week bc its the only thing small enough to fit in my bag and i wont have to worry about the mess..but omg does that stuff stink...lol

  • The more you use it the less you smell it, and the less the smell bothers you. It's worth getting used to.

  • Im sure I'll get used to it but good lawd lol...I mean its not as bad as the spray for my hair that I got...thats even worse...lol...But It seems to be doing its job and I found a few other things around that are natural and Ive had LESS issues with my scalp in just the last week of using it..So thats a good thing..I'll deal with the smell if it does good for my hair and scalp...

  • Does it by any chance have any weird smell smokey smell after you added all these other stuff?

  • yup

  • thnxs for this vid...def going to give this a try

  • thanks, im gonna try that!
