Could you get a similar effect with a tanpura, d'you think?

It WILL sound like an esraj or dilruba because they both have sitar necks with a sarangi skin type base. Nick

haha nice! Ive tried this on my sitar with my sister violin bow too! It does give it a beautiful sound like a sarangi.
